Russell Brand is an award-winning comedian, actor, author, public thought leader, and a passionate activist for mental health and drug rehabilitation. Since rising to fame in 2003, Russell Brand has established himself as one of the world’s most celebrated stand-up comedians.
Aside from stand-up comedy, Russell is also a phenomenally successful author, broadcaster, actor, podcaster, columnist, political commentator, and mental health & drug rehabilitation activist. When he was a teenager, he started trying different types of illegal drugs and became addicted to heroin in his early twenties. Recovering from that addiction was one of the hardest things he did in his life, but he succeeded and wrote a New York Times bestselling book documenting his journey to healing - Recovery: Freedom from Our Addictions.
Since then, Russell has written several more books, starred in movies, and launched his two podcasts - Above the Noise(a meditation podcast) and Under the Skin (a podcast about revolutionary politics and spiritual awakening). His most recent creation is his book Revelation: Connecting with the Sacred in Everyday Life - an Audible Original that explores the meaning of life, death, and the sacred space in between.
Russell is one of the most insightful people I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing. His perspective on life, success, and healing will encourage you to seek spiritual awakening in your own life, no matter your beliefs! You’re going to love this episode!
Join me on Episode 1,109 to learn about the power of fame, fighting addictions, and finding spiritual freedom with the talented Russell Brand!

We live in a deterministic universe where past present and future all exist. We only experience the future as we pass through the dimension of time. Time is the essence of these experiences where we see the answers sometimes before the questions as time may not always be linear as we think it is. We therefore may catch a glimpse of the future out of context. This experience is making you aware to pay attention to these “coincidences “ in your life as signposts to your direction in life.

I understand the notion behind helping people without other people knowing, in order that we are not actually serving our egos, but I think it's important to let other people know that we do help so that we can Inspire others to do the same.

Yes. We should let our actions be the way which can inspire others, by living in alignment with higher principles. We don't need to explain what and why we are doing things. It won't help inspire change in others through speech, it is in action these ideas can be experienced.

What a wonderfully meaningful conversation! I love it that Russell has NOTHING to contribute to the "How To" discussion of desires and goals; he knows it's a dead-end, superficial approach to deeper, mostly unacknowledged needs. Russell subverts the hollow normalcy that distracts us from our pain and therefore our salvation. Thank you Lewis, for inviting him for a chat! And thank you Russell, for showing us that cultivating emotional courage is the key to genuine contentment. It's your subversive emotional courage that I most admire, and you express it with such grace and lightness of spirit.

Though I deeply admire the fact that anyway he is doing some good job by all his supportive videos and valuable talks with people wiser than him. He could be just walking around, spending his money ;p ..instead he is playing a redemptive thinker and involuntary helpful pacifist ;-) He is a huge narcissist with enough self-awareness to trick us into believing he is not. ;) Maye his "change" and supposal of gaining insight is another, temporary facade where he thinks he found himself? We will see...

Arriving in middle age when you're entirely defined by the obstacles and disconnected from everything and everyone is utterly terrifying. Every day I wake up alone screaming inside. It's Groundhog Day only I'm so much older than I feel I could possibly be. It comes in waves of panic. There is much to mull over here and I'll watch it again. I have plans but need to find out how to make the changes necessary to see them through. I keep trying again but the stakes get higher as the time runs out. It hurts.

This interview broke the wall of interviewing, in my mind, more than any one of the people you have talked to. When you two started discussing the challenges of learning languages it really just felt like a good conversation! My biggest take away: “...clearing away the barnacles of conditioning from the hull of who we are through self actualization.” The discussion of serving the thing you love also burned in my ears as it addressed the same concept in a book I’m currently listening to, “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert. Living a life as a creative, which, we are all creatives at something. She might be a good person to have on if you haven’t already. Thank you so much for the continued inspiration, Lewis!

Hi Russell, love , love, love ALL your talks, regardless of the subject matter . As a practicing Muslim, many if not most of your thought processes and values resonate with me...I suppose that is because spirituality is universal to all religions. Your 3rd point about service/charity is especially interesting- as Muslims we believe that one of the sincerest forms of charity is the one done secretly and without an expectation of gratitude from anyone. However, it’s to be combined with visible charity too in order to motivate or inspire others as your guest says. It’s all about the intention behind the action. If the action is done for worldly reasons it will not fulfil you spiritually. Looking forward to more of your enlightening talks.

My 2 favorite men on youtube, hands down. This was beautiful & I pray that more people find your channel Lewis. Your spirit is amazingly authentic & kind. You are a true gift to us all. What kind of world would we have if everyone could communicate in this way. The two of you were open, caring, trusting & sensitive. This was spiritually lifting exchange - both bright & heartfelt - can't wait until that next show (wish it was live & in L.A. or Phoenix though, lol). I'm halfway through Revelation, it is a great book. Highly recommend. Great job Lewis. Thank you. ❤

My favorite Lewis Howe’s episode ever. Russell Brand is a wonderful soul. He shared many valuable insights. I will be buy his book “Revelations”💖👍🏽 Lewis Howes you’re in the perfect position to achieve your desire to speak Spanish fluently. Speak to your love in Spanish whenever possible. Also commit to sending texts to her in Spanish; Something about writing/keying in the written words makes it stick in your brain.

I woulda, shoulda, coulda! These are the words of a person who has a dream undone. He lives a life but never does his life. Its like life just 'happens' to him. He doesn't create it and at the end of his road those words become a deep regret.

This was such an edifying interview and conversation! I felt like a fly on the wall experiencing two genuine men while they learn how to be better from listening to each others experiences! Really Inspiring! Guys! Thank You! The Eyes are the window of the soul! As I watched this I was drawn in and my spirit was lifted from the genuine kindness and love that each of you emanate! I would challenge all to pay attention to how their spirits confirms truth to your spirit through their eyes as they share their thoughts and experiences! Awesome!
