Of all the cast Dawn Wells was the only one to receive residuals,as her lawyer negotiated them in her contract. She also took care of Natalie Schaefer later in her life when she was sick.In fact, they lived together until Natalie died.Dawn was a very nice lady.

Tina Louise hated the show, and refused to appear in the later movies. She was upset with the producer because she wasn't the star, but he told her,It's called Gilligan's Island, not Ginger's Island.

Tina Louise was also upset with producer Sherwood Schwartz because he made millions in syndication while the cast received no residuals.

I have read that Tina Louise was difficult to work with, it is to bad that she was like that. Good video Bob.

We've heard quite a few stories about Tina Louise. One is that she thought Ginger would be the star. Did this show originally have a different name? Some of the actors were better known even then. Ironically, the Eva Grub episode may be my least favorite. Those castaways should have kept all visitors under 24/7 guard. What if Gilligan hadn't told her of their plan to go back for her later? You actually felt sorry for Ginger this time. After all, Eva signed her note, the new Ginger Grant. Judging from the reunion movie, she wasn't successful. The first fake Ginger got a movie role after the rescue. That was mean of Tina to refuse those personal appearances. Perhaps she didn't need the money. Most likely her costars did. It's possible she just wanted to enjoy her time off. We know she skipped the 3 reunion movies and 2 animated series. Hopefully she's made peace with the show by now. After all, she's the only surviving cast member.

I felt, something was 'off' between Ginger and everyone else. Yet acting roles are hard to come by, and Tina 'should've' been more appreciative of her job. Then again, she did a very bad performance as the 'Biker Mama' in that flop movie "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" lol Such a shame, Tina had a terrible attitude. I don't get along with some people, because of various dramas, yet a few had a PAIR and told me what I was doing, I have nothing but DEEP LOVE and RESPECT for them. Only the FEW that grow a PAIR of BALLS to confront the problem, can make a huge difference. Ignoring the problem, and removing the problem, never solves it. It just spreads the problem, but never corrects the unacceptable behavior. I'm sure Tina, had her reasons and I'm sure there was more deserving actresses that could have Ginger's character and perform it better. Dawn Wells, was described as the 'smart' actress that knew how to negotiate, and Natalie Schaffer was also a bit of a drama-queen herself. Yet, I'm sure, with enough hard work, they would chop down a few trees, and between the professor and skipper, make the repairs to the "Minnow" lol but after a while, Gilligan always messed up. lol I grew up on the Gilligan Island's reruns.

In a lot of the episodes, a visitor leaves the castaways behind and nothing bad happens to them. Some of the "evil" visitors leave, but they get their comeuppance later, relayed to the castaways via a radio news report. Jonathan Kincaid lost his mind and was put in a straitjacket. Jackson Farrell's stolen bank money was chopped up by the boat's propellor. George Barkley lost his prize money which was hidden inside his transmitter. The Mr. Howell imposter was rescued, but he couldn't spend any more of the real Howell's money. But, at the end of the "All About Eva" episode, there was no comeuppance. We can only assume that her plan to become Ginger in Hollywood didn't pan out.

I had heard the stories that she wasn't happy on the show, and that is why she didn't appear in any of the TV reunion movies and didn't lend her voice on the two animated spin-offfs...at least Dawn Wells lent her voice the second animated spin-off.

I will give Tina Louise credit for reuniting with the whole cast for the first and last time on the Ross Schaefer Show , a Fox late night show in 1988 . It was the last time for the whole cast because Jim Backus died in '89 , Alan Hale Jr in '90 , and Natalie Schafer in '91 . After that she would occasionally reunite with the remaining cast , like the end of that "Roseanne" episode where Tina Louise was playing Roseanne's character , then Dawn Wells came in playing Darlene , the negative smart aleck daughter , Bob Denver came in playing Roseanne's sister Jackie , then Russell Johnson came in playing Becky's boyfriend Mark . I saw a video clip of that episode a long time ago , I don't remember all the details , but it was funny .

I think it was Tina Louise's agent left her to believe that she was supposed to be the star of the series. Show creator, Sherwood Schwartz, pulled her aside and showed her a script which clearly stated the series was called "Gilligan's Island". It's sad to hear that her refusal to do personal appearances took tens of thousands of dollars out of the pockets of her castmates, especially since most of them did not receive top dollar salaries as actors during production and the residuals deals after syndication didn't help their bank accounts very much either.

Thanks Bob for this Classic TV F & T segment. I saw a interview with Russell Johnson and he truly seemed to have a likeness and respect for his cast mates,I never heard or read this. Unfortunately you have some individuals who, for whatever reasons, are more self centered even at the expense of others. Good segment.

If they killed off her character on "Dallas", it certainly didn't become a 'Who Shot J.R.?' situation. Few of us barely remember her arrival at Ewing Oil or departure from the show. Yes, Tina Louise pretty much disappeared from the business after she left the island.

Tina was to GI as Robert Reed was to the BB....both of them took the roles and of course every paycheck for years---while complaining to Sherwood and giving him regular headaches. Idk what to think here. Were they deceived that it made them this difficult or what was the deal ?

A couple of things Ive heard about Tina that I dont know are true. One is she was under the impression that Ginger was the main character. Two Tina saw herself as more of a dramatic actress doing serious roles, not comedy. Ive heard the same about Francis Bavier aka Aunt Bee. Both became bitter when they realized they had become typecast. Tina as a dumb blonde type and Francis as a grandmother.

Later interviews seemed to indicate that Tina Louise thought she was headed for bigger things than the show, which is probably why she didn't want to get to associated too close to it with those appearances. Sort of like Sally Field and The Flying Nun, only Sally went on to a much more lucrative career afterward.

LOL "It's not too often someone can put a price tag, on just how much they dislike a coworker." She must have really hated the show to turn down easy money, like that. They should have gotten the woman who played Ginger on the pilot.

I think she viewed her role the way George Reeves viewed his role as Superman. She probably felt that it was just something temporary, a stepping stone to larger ones, not the one thing she would be remembered for. Tina has all the hallmarks of someone who wanted to be an A-list celebrity, the next Marilyn Monroe but she just didn't have the appeal.
