One night in about 71 I went to a joint with a stage about as big as a ping pong table and on the bill that night were Russell Morris, Johnny Farnham and Zoot!

Thanks heaps for this VK, Russell’s voice is very unique and he’s got a lot of good interesting lyrics. The original clip I saw of this was also in b&w but had clips to it of different things, like nuclear war, Hitler, war, devastation etc. some of Russell’s early stuff like this I think was ahead of it’s time.

I truly think this must have been written after a long visit with Mary Jane. You could get lost in a discussion about this for hours, and i bet it would end as chaotic as the ending of the song was! That was great! Also just checking, I should still have two on your request list, punk rock loser and iron sky? I know your list is long, so just seeing if they are on it. 🖤

That would definitely make sense. I love the paradoxical perspective of it. It's fun to ponder. Yes I will get to those for you. Thanks for reminding me, there are a lot of requests 😅 i appreciate all of your support, it means the world. Love and blessings always, Spell 🙏🖤

I'll remove this from the list I was preparing! I agree with your take, the ending of the song could be him considering the song from his own perspective and descending into madness as a result, and then the world exploded (predictive perhaps?). This was perhaps THE most important song on the Aussie music landscape...ever. It charted in a couple of states of the US and the UK, but didn't (and still doesn't) get the attention it truly deserves. Can you believe this was 1969? They were sampling, and it was NOT the kind of thing they were playing on the radio at the time. It was SO FAR ahead of it's time...I'm not even sure its time has come yet (another paradox?) The other versions are well worth checking out as well, for the video imagery, even if you don't react to them, check them out and read the comments, especially of the first one. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rd-ceKVetZ2annU.html (the "Bandstand" version, introduced by the great Brian Henderson) & kzfaq.info/get/bejne/raiGfal43d_cl3k.html (a "remix", updated samples and images)

Since no one else seems to have mentioned it... you only played a PART 1 of The Real Thing.(!) There's also part 2 and part 3 (paper walls). There exist youtube uploads of all 3 parts (e.g., by Tom Wynn, which seems to be good quality stereo mastering). If you're going to do more Russel Morris, I suggest doing this, i.e., all 3 parts of The Real Things together. Don't split them up. (Since you liked part1, I guarantee you'll like parts 2 & 3 also.)

The true meaning of this song lies in the ooh, Mau, mau, mau, maus.

This brilliant Aussie song unfortunately didn't break out overseas, like most Aussie bands & artists except ACCA DACCA & INXS. This song was also in the brilliant Aussie movie called The Dish which was a true story of the moon landing (if u believe the moon landing happened, i don't but...) where we find out the actual vision of the moon landing the world witnessed was from a bush town called Parkes in the state of NSW (my state). Unfortunately it never made it overseas due to the Aussie humour in it & no one outside Australia except for our siblings across the ditch in New Zealand, understand our humour. That's why the majority of Aussie movies never make it around the world coz of our humour & slang/language & accent. If u can find The Dish give it a go, like The Castle (not the US version as they sliced everything Aussie out of that movie to Americanise it for the Seppo's which fucked the movie right up). Those 2 movies alone will really show not just our humour but our way of life & culture as well as language, slang & to understand the accent. Edit: New sub mate! I like the casual, informal & laid back style of the way u present ur channel which suits me as an Aussie as we are such a laid back, she'll be right nation
