Russell Westbrook has 47 million reasons to opt-in and return to the Los Angeles Lakers next year. In his exit interview, Russ mentioned he quote: 'was never given a fair chance' to jell with the purple and gold. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe react to Russ's comments and discuss what his future lies with the Lakers.

I knew this team wasn’t going anywhere once we traded for him, heck every true laker fan knew that. Everyone knows that lebron needs needs shooters defenders and just smart players. This was the case after lebrons last truly elite defensive season, 2016 championship. Russ doesn’t have any of those qualities and also requires the ball to operate when everyone knows lebron must have the ball because he is the greatest playmaker in nba history since magic Johnson. As soon as we got Russ, I knew we were doomed.

Starting is not the same as putting him in a position to succeed and running plays and playstyles that complement him. For example: Vogel didn't run a single high PnR or Spain PnR for him. He would hide him in the dunker spot or on the wing to catch-shoot. Had him screening at some point. If you trade for Curry and put him in the dunker spot, then complain... even though he started every game, whose fault is it?

@@bluesrockfan36 it seems like you missed the beginning of the season where they had him playing the Point, and he was so bad that eventually LeBron had to take over. They put Russ in those positions later on to avoid having him cause more chaos. The amount of turnovers he’s done, let alone how many of those led to points for the opposing team are his fault. His defense is also nonexistent, but that goes for the whole Lakers team, so it is what it is there.

In some fairness to Russ, Washington REALLY wanted him back, even if they got some assets in return. In fact, the owner issued a statement (disguised as a veiled jab at Russ wanting out), where he talked about the lack of loyalty in the NBA, compared to the NHL. And, it's been each team wanting him too. Houston wanted him first. Then, Washington (including Bradley Beal) wanted him, all before the Lakers (as it's said, Lebron & AD) wanted him in LA.

That's just ignorant. The coach designes the play. Run plays that your players excel and have excelled at executing their entire career. For example: Vogel didn't run a _single_ high PnR or Spain PnR in the entire season with Russ as the ballhandler. The best teams run them constantly. He won an MVP running these plays. How do you expect Russ to get a higher assist to TO ratio if the coach gives Stanely Johnson the greenlight to run the fast breaks, instead of Russ on of the greatest transition playmakers in history? How do you expect Russ to excel, if coach routinely puts geriatric lineups alongside him, lineups that won't run the fast break. I can't count how many times I've seen Russ jump up and down in the half court telling them to move, as Carmelo and LBJ _walked_ the ball up.

The one problem I see that isn't discussed about Russel alot of the time is his rebounding. By trying to get rebounds, he is sacrificing the fastbreak. And this is where basketball IQ comes into play, as a PG he must know when his bigs need help and when they don't. He should be ready to run (his athleticism is best used here IMO) when his bigs is sure to get the ball and be ready to help when they are struggling inside the paint.
