Missing the point of what I'm saying, his block totals were insane according to some and blocks are hard to come by in any era. I read (I don't know if it can be validated) that some stat guys took a sample size of 108 complete Wilt Chamberlain games across many seasons (I'm guessing cause not many full game coverage exists) and all his blocks averaged out at 8.3 a game. Plus it has been noted that a game against the Pistons he blocked something like 26 shots. I also don't like how now people go on about "well they had more possessions back then" like we should be down grading them for playing a faster game back then.

his point wasn't that fact that basketball is a majority black game. His point was in the old days only a certain number of black people were ALLOWED to a team due to racial barriers of the time, so because of that you didn't necessarily have the best talent like you would in today's game. So now averaging certain numbers and certain feats are harder to accomplish in today's game.

Curry's parents are probably majority black but they are definitely not full black. How do you explain Curry's light complexion, straight nose, and light eyes? There isn't a full black person who looks like Curry...he obviously has admixture and none of his parents look 100% black anyways.

This man has lead his team to the playoff the year that they lost KD, Ibaka and Waiters. When he gets the triple doubles his team wins, when he sits his team is trash. Nobody has ever come close to average a triple double in the modern era. I'm not even a Westbrook or OKC fan but damn He is the definition of MVP!

Shannon is stupid. Russell Westbrook is the MVP and that shouldn't even be up to debate. The man is averaging a triple-double, on pace to winning 45 games with a team that just lost a top 3 player in KD, and he's the leading scorer of the league? What else is there, really?!!!!

well I mean, it's the MVP of the league, not the team. The team needs to win a lot of games like 55+ to be MVP. And the player needs to have a lot of jersey sells and make lots of money for the NBA.

AnDr3w066 it seems like the only argument for harden is the team winning. But you seem to miss the biggest point that rockets is winning because of addition of d'antoni and his shooters, Esp after "you know who" singlehandedly destroyed the whole team a year ago. Without D'antonio, rockets would still be dysfunctional like last time under harden's selfish iso style. Worst of all, he has no leadership and no commitment on both ends of the floor. It is why rockets are building the team around d'antoni system and harden is now simply a product of the system. Plus he has no D - meaning missing 50% of the game commitment every single game. Therefore he is honestly irrelevant. However, Westbrook most likely won't win since his team records is too low. It is why kawhi should be the mvp today
@AnDr3w066
@AnDr3w066 7 жыл бұрын
99 the numbers are damn near identical with harden with better shooting% and assist while westbrook gets more points and rebounds. The differences between both of them is very small so then you look at the teams performance. Harden's team is up in 3rd while okc is 7th. In order for westbrook to deserve the mvp over harden he would need to produce considerably more than harden and that isn't the case. The thunder are dysfunctional today because everything revolves around westbrook and nothing else. That is their fault and shouldn't count against harden. What they do on the court is near identical.

Russell Westbrook is definitely a top contender for MVP (runner-up at the very least). I don't understand why people can't get past his field goal percentages when Allen Iverson dominated the MVP voting back in 2001 with similar fg% (42%) and scoring (31.1 ppg) while playing almost 8(!) more minutes (42 mpg) than Westbrook. People also hate on Westbrook's turnovers (they're not pretty, yes) but Harden is actually averaging more per game (5.8 tov) and even LeBron James has a higher turnover rate (16.5% to 15.6%) than Russ. Right now, I'd give Russ the MVP without even pointing to his triple doubles and just basing purely from watching him be everything and do everything (read: valuable) for his team EVERY GAME. But for those "experts" and "analysts" that conveniently use stats when they favor Harden and LBJ, then we should put their raw averages and advanced stats side-by-side. Harden: 29.1 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 11.2 apg, 1.5 spg, 44% fg, 36% 3fg, 85% ft, 5.8 tov, 36.5 mpg 27.6 PER, 12.5 win shares, 10.0 box plus/minus, 5.46 real plus/minus, 7.2 value over replacement player Westbrook: 31.9 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 10.1 apg, 1.6 spg, 42% fg, 34% 3fg, 84% ft, 5.4 tov, 34.8 mpg 30.2 PER, 10.0 win shares, 14.6 box plus/minus, 6.35 real plus/minus, 9.5 value over replacement player James: 26.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 8.8 apg, 1.3 spg, 54% fg, 39% 3fg, 68% ft, 4.2 tov, 37.6 mpg 26.7 PER, 10.0 win shares, 8.3 box plus/minus, 6.9 real plus/minus, 5.7 value over replacement player You see, Westbrook's shooting splits are not even that far from Harden's! And if he had even one shooter the caliber (and experience, coz they literally have 3 rookies in the rotation!) of Ryan Anderson or Eric Gordon, who's to say he can't get another assist per game off of that. And even probably a couple of wins. Coz yeah, they are the worst 3pt shooting team! Also, Westbrook's presence on the court is clearly positive and valuable based on PER, win shares, plus/minus stats, and VORP.

Mr. Shannon, Russell is the MVP because THEY CAN'T WIN WITHOUT HIM. He is the most VALUABLE player because he is the sole reason his team has 45 wins without a strong roster and their former all-star, MVP, franchise-player Kevin Durant. Kawhi is not the MVP because his team can win without him. LeBron is always an MVP candidate because he's always great but Russel's numbers are better than his and James Harden's. He deserves MVP. Period. No discussion. It's undisputed.

Westbrook is good, I can't deny that but he does not look like an MVP to me. You can take this argument and use it against every other MVP ever if you want. In my opinion, he's stat stuffing. Look at what he did when he was one rebound away from 10, he completely disengaged his man and hung around in the paint for the rebound. Had ball movement been better on that particular play the Spurs would have had a guy wide open. You'll also notice that none of the actual big men down in the paint even boxed out. They let him get that rebound. I'm [not] sorry but that doesn't scream MVP to me. That screams "regular guy stuffing his numbers". He's getting the assists because almost every play goes through him. There's no ball movement. Law of averages pretty much applies here. As long as he continues to be the [pretty much] ONLY person on the team handling the ball, he's going to get all the assists. If the team full of NBA players can score at all, if he passes the ball 20-30 times a night, you can count on 10 of those going in. That'd be more impressive if not for how the team's play structure is balanced around him doing whatever he wants. He's not getting all those points or assists because he's particularly good at getting them, he's getting them because nobody else is really allowed to. The same thing applies to his points and the fact that he's leading the league. You don't think LeBron could easily do that if he took 70+% of the team's shots. Of course he's going to score that much if he's always the one shooting the ball. Westbrook makes the rest of his team look like garbage because of how he plays. IDK, it just irks me that people think of him as an MVP when he's really just a ball hog.

Shannon so the guys that plays both ends of the floor and goes 100 MPH on every trip down the floor is 4th on your list, at the same time the guy that doesn't even attempt to play D and flops around to get to the line is 1st on your list? Makes sense to me.

Even if he's selfish, most players couldn't do this if they tried. And russ has NO BENCH. Leonard has the best coach of all time that's always good, lebron can't even carry a title favorite team, and harden? Better teammates and no triple double. Its westbrook or Isaiah thomas

I swear people love to hate on Russ. He is averaging a triple double and they are 25-6 when he does but are horrible when he doesn't. Please stop hating and start recognizing. 10q!

Mentioning race is so unnecessary to make a point about the MVP for this year! Smh...Westbrook gets hard criticism, but he is a great player and deserves to be among the top two choices for MVP.

The one point that I think that a lot of people aren't mentioning about why Russell should be considered the MVP is the fact that this is his first season after being left high and dry by Durant, and he's been able to average a triple double and has his team in the playoffs in the western conference. Literally Durant left him with nothing, no help just some role players and some guys who haven't broken out of their potential; and yet he's been having a monster season in spite of Durant's departure. I think we all expected the Thunder to just suck badly this year, but they're in the playoffs currently at 7th all because of Russ and his effort to find his teammates and score and rebound like a monster. How many other teams would've just tanked and not have been relevant or had any success? Look at D Wade and Bosh when Lebron left, didn't have too much success. The fact that they're still relevant becuase of what Russ is having them do is MVP worthy. All other candidates have better teams and stronger benches; Westbrook is doing the most with the least becuase he's the Most Valuable Player.

Spurs with 50 wins in the West. Cavs with 42 wins in the East. Yet Shannon puts Lebron ahead of Kawhi. Surprise, surprise!
