Russian Deputy Representative Dmitry Polyanskiy said that the just adopted resolution on safety and security of nuclear facilities of Ukraine “will make absolutely no effect on the ground.”
Today (11 Jul), the General Assembly adopted the draft resolution A/78/L.90 introduced by Ukraine on safety and security of nuclear facilities in the country, including the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, by 99 votes in favour, 9 against and 60 abstentions.
After the vote, Polyanskiy addressed the press and said that the resolution ”may only unfortunately embolden the parties of war in Europe, in the States and in Ukraine of course. And they will try to pretend that this kind of support of international community for their efforts to keep Zelenskyy’s regime.”
He also said, “I don’t think that anybody who is sane is thinking that Russia is targeting our own nuclear plant given the fact that are 4 others power plants in other regions of Ukraine which are not under our control. It would be very much logical for us to target those ones if we wanted to inflict damage in nuclear safety in Ukraine.”
Answering a question, he said, “Kherson, the Zaporizhzhia, regions Donetsk Lugansk are part of Russian federation according to Constitution. There is no way we are going to give them back, of course. And it’s not because we are stubborn but because of the will of people who are living in these areas. So, who know what will be the third attempt, what will remain of Ukraine at this moment, is very hard to predict. So, I would not take such a chance if I were in Ukrainian shoes.”
