The next-generation fighter from the United States has specifications so insane that NASA just had to get involved. This fighter is known as the X-44 MANTA and is being developed with the current most advanced fighter jet in the world - the F-22 Raptor - as its testbed. The X-44 MANTA is expected to be the United States’ go-to fighter to keep other sixth-generation fighters in line - and serve as a constant reminder to Russia just who is the king of the skies. So in this video, we’ll be taking a look at all there is to know about this American sixth-generation fighter of the future that has been under development for over 20 years.

There still seems to be an array of problem with artificial intelligence controlling cars on the ground effectively. Flying with AI in a 3d environment could be even more challenging. I expect we'll get fully automated vehicles here on the ground before we see anything fully automated handling aerial combat.

No. The YF-22 did not “better” the YF-23. There were other reasons. The YF-23 had more processing power than all of the IBM mainframes at Northrop combined, according to the documentary. Even X-43 had vertical stabs.

Enjoyed the video. Thanks. Small point. I do believe that the term "acrobatic" is related to gymnastic feats. I think the term you are looking for to describe the manuverability of these fighters is "Aerobatic". This comment from an Aerobatic pilot :-)

by the way USA is not alone on this race, several countries have announced the development of a sixth-generation aircraft program, including the United States, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, China, and India. The first sixth-generation fighters are expected to enter service in the 2030s.

The problem with Russia's technology has always been the same they really don't care how many test pilots they kill they put product in the air before it's ready they put out stories telling the world what it's capable of doing when 90% of the time it's an exaggeration they do have some beautiful looking planes though same thing goes for China doesn't matter how pretty it is it's got to work it's got to be dependable and your country has to be able to afford it and to maintain it keep it flying not produce three of them show it off so that everybody could say oh boy look at that MIG go meanwhile there's none of them available typical of Russia propaganda

"Lockheed was chosen because the Air Force had greater confidence, they could better manage the program." It was more Political than anything! test pilot Paul Metz only person to fly both aircraft says" YF-23 was just as capable if not superior but Lockheed's presentation won but if the panel was all aviation engineers, they would of choose YF-23 over the also capable YF-22!" Thats the 3 main reasons YF-22 won in the end it came down to who put on a better show and who they had more faith in not the Jets themselves!

Sub space should be the real development of the next generation fighter aircraft. With laser tech it would rule the skies and ground while also monitoring space to eliminate missiles with nuclear war heads.

I think that is a good path to pursue / especially with laser directed energy weapons. BTW, manned aircraft are superior since a drone will add milliseconds to every maneuver and every reaction time due to round/trip radio communication to the remotely located stone pilot, not conducive to dogfight/air superiority role, drones work to take out tanks, static targets, human pilot holding The controls with immediate response works best in air combat. Plus pilot superiority is about fastest reflexes and thinking.

Gentlemen, stop getting excited because the 6th generation should, in principle, eliminate man as a part of the combat machine because he is simply the slowest element in the fight, which will be shown by 5th generation machines. The problem is that you need to give the artificial intelligence a plane that has the potential to incinerate the town in 10 seconds. To hand over the aircraft in the "hands" of the program, so autonomous that it will be difficult to determine whether it will remain loyal, but without such an openness of the system, it will not be able to work efficiently, i.e. better than a man in the cockpit or on a control position.

Another 30yrs. of bungling, mismanagement and cost overruns up ahead. Code name:X44 Manta. Jet fighters have done just fine without stealth tech and smaller payloads. I'll bet this plane won't even have a gun for dogfights. Leave it up to the USAF to be incompetent

Why don’t we have catapults in our military bases, like on aircraft carriers? Wouldn’t it get our planes in air faster?

Several issues for ground based catapults: Current designs run on steam and use the reactors on board the ship for water heating, the reactors are always running, so steam is always available... not so with a ground based design, unless you install a reactor/large water supply/ and all the supporting systems, just to run a catapult. I believe that is why the rail gun research continues. Next issue is the time and personnel it takes to set a plane up on the sled to get the launch support from the catapult. If the airbase is under attack they will be hard pressed to support takeoffs. Third issue, landing require the full length runways and their associated costs and maintenance. Foruth issue, if the catapult breaks, you still need full length runways, so you have the cost and maintenance of runways plus the catapult systems. So currently, its a no go... VTOL aircraft have a good solution, while the VTOL system is working as each aircraft has it's own, but the cost, in terms of money and weight added to the aircraft still make it's usefulness a stretch.
