Remember that Ukraine doesn't need to take Tokmak, just cut the rail and road lines to the east or west. If they cut them to the east, supplies will be very difficult for the Russians in Tokmak.

Sanctions on Russian oil and gas: No Hypocrisy. There was no intention to completely exclude Russian oil from the global market - as removing Russian supplies completely would cause a huge price escalation that would harm our own economies. By enforcing a price cap Russia's oil exports are only very marginally profitable. India is a key player in making this regime work as intended.

I've followed this story about the fugitive from Mariupol for many months. The first interviews were on Ukrainian channels with very bad automatic translation. I couldn't believe what I was reading, however, in the subsequent weeks the interview was translated into good English. Now I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This story is Hollywood blockbuster content. The soldier himself is very matter-of-fact about what happened. I don't think he realises just how exceptional he is. The interview is here on KZfaq.

This is classic battlefield strategy. Two examples I can think of are: Montgomery at Caen during Operation Goodwood, forcing the Germans to shift troops to his sector, leaving the door open for the inexperienced Americans at Avranches. Six weeks later Paris was liberated. Then there was the Germans miscalculating during Operation Bagration, by the time they realized what was going on, it was too late to shift troops. And the Allies used the "broad front" strategy to liberate France in 1944. Montgomery wanted to end the war by Christmas, but Eisenhower recognized the inexperience of his American troops and decide on a more cautious approach. Slow and steady gets the job done too, just not as glamorous.

I don't think that young men in top physical condition should be playing games while their nation is under attack and their friends are fighting off the invaders. Ukrainians are making positive gains, congratulation brave Ukraina who are asked through the randomness of histories first draft to sacrifice way too much. But if this is a war of attrition, sorry too say Russia stands a chance of bleeding Ukraine rather then vise versa and I’m sure it’s all the same to Vladamir Puti, but for Ukraine to flat out win sooner rather then later Ukraine has to have some decapatation strategy. Some will Unfortunately fail as sacrifice for the winning blow, to commit to just an attrition strategy is to see the Western aid and commitment to Ukraine to in the least strain.

If, in 2013 or 2014, we just had completely pulled out of Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, then those resources could potentially have been sent to Ukraine. At this point unconditional surrender is the only practical solution for Ukraine. Hitler's Germany also refused to admit defeat until Hitler killed himself, then Keitel signed unconditional surrender. The war is already lost by Ukraine . Zelenskyy offensive is going nowhere . Meanwhile new Ukrainian defense minister Rustem Umierov wants to officially enlist 16-year-olds, obviously Zelenskyy offensive was so successful that even official forced conscription of disabled and people with AIDS and hepatitis wasn't enough. WaPo is reporting that yet another Zelenskyy debacle caused bitter recriminations on Capitol Hill: "The bleak outlook, briefed to some Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill, has already prompted a blame game inside closed-door meetings" (WaPo article "U.S. intelligence says Ukraine will fail to meet offensive’s key goal") . Ukrainian army in its current dismal state proved to be completely impotent. It's the result of a successful implementation of an attrition strategy.
