(6 Oct 1994) Senior churchmen from Serbia arrived in Moscow on Thursday (6/10)
on the first Yugoslav airlines (JAT) flight out of Belgrade since
the ban was lifted on flights in and out of the country. Patriarch
Pavel of Serbia's Orthodox Church was met at Moscow's airport by
Alexi the Second, the Patriarch of all Russia. Russia, which
shares the orthodox Christian religion with Serbia, has backed
Belgrade's attempts to secure an easing of international sanctions
against Serbia in return for a strict blockade on the Bosnian
Serbs. Patriarch Pavel attended a mass in Uspenski cathedral at
Moscow's Danilov monastery, the residence of the Russian
Patriarchs.
