There were security threats to Russia just like any other country would have if their enemy countries put their weapons near you. both sides could tackle the situation very differently and war could have been denied.

Ukraine is not a multi ethnic nstion like india. Russian and Ukrainian are 80% the same. So can't be used as an example for unity. Also majority of Ukrainians have already fled to neighbouring states like Romania Poland and Moldova. Only select few are left behind to fight.
