@@karos7371 LOL the YAK-141 was designed at the end of the soviet union, and four prototypes were built. After the colapse, the Yakovlev corporation needed money. guess who had money and needed designs for vtol engines? Lockheed martin. they baught 3 prototypes $385 to $400 million. sorry to say, but if you look at the engine configuration on the f 35 b compared to the yak 141, you will see, that you are in fact, wrong. Disclamer: By no means am i Russian or support Russia during this war.

@@somaticapollo6025The F-35B project actually goes back to the Convair 200, which featured a similar rear bending VTOL engine but never finished being built. It’s unclear whether YAK ever gave Lockheed the planes they requested because Lockheed requested for NEW built planes, but like you said, they only ever built the prototypes. When comparing the two designs for similarities, the ONLY similarity is how the engine bends downward, and even then the F-35B’s engine can swivel even more to turn left and right while in hover, the YaK’s cannot. This myth is so annoying. The Yak merely served as a proof of concept for the successful application of the rear downward bending engine, but that doesn’t make or break the F-35B’s design at all. When Lockheed asked for the planes the F-35 project was already in progress. Had the YaK not existed, the F-35B would look exactly the same

Ouch.... Why is the Yak so reminiscent of the f35? Long before the creation of the F35 itself? Maybe because in the 90s the Americans took out all the developments from the USSR on the yak and are still trying to keep a normal aircraft that the Russians made 40 years ago?
