In large, that is what happened. However, there are some points that I just need to comment on: 1. While it is true that Finland was part of Russia 1917, this is not the whole story. Finland was part of Sweden from the 13th century until the war of 1808-09, when Russia conquered Finland. 2. In late 1939, Finland had no choice but to fight. Stalin had already threatened Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and their path of not fighting, only led to the Soviet Union occupying all three nations. 3. Stalin worrying about the security of Leningrad is mostly garbage: in the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact from 1939, it was stated that Finland would belong to the Soviet Union´s sphere of influence. The objective of the soviet army was to hold a victory parade in Helsinki. That is not the objective of a worried nation...

"Stalin worrying about the security of Leningrad is mostly garbage." Exactly. It's pure BS, just like Russia's claim that they had to invade Ukraine because of the NATO threat. Russia invades its neighbors whenever they think they can get away with it. They didn't become the largest country on the planet by just "responding to outside threats." They are always on the lookout for signs of weakness. If they find one, they'll invade. If not, they'll work to undermine and weaken their neighbors until they're weak enough to be conquered, annexed, russified and used as a cannon fodder in the next invasion. That's all there is to it.

Yep they only wanted those early demands for an easier later invasion so there was no other option than fight. Like they had already made a deal before that with Nazi Germany that Finland was supposed to be part of Soviet so why would they have stopped when they could start the invasion without having to cross that narrow gap...

Stalin bragged that the Soviet Union will conquer the whole of Finland in two weeks. That did not happen. Finland retained its independence and freedom. Finland was never under communism. Never a part of the Soviet Union and never an eastern bloc country. Before Russia's Empire of tsar 100 years Finland was directly a part of Sweden. They were the same country.

Stalin was the best buddy of Hitler up till June 22, 1941, and Stalin attacked Finland: a) because he wanted to restore Soviet Union in the borders of the Russian empire; b) He had arranged with Hitler who conquers what land. E.g. they shared Poland among themselves, and organized joined parade (both Soviets and Nazis)... And Finland once was part of the Russian empire.

@nicholasthebest9993 .. I do. There where actually many famous people that where pro Nazi and anti semitic. Charles Lindbergs (1:st pilot that flew from America to France, non stop) and also Henry Ford. Who built the Ford cars in America. He also met Hitler. Many of them where anti semitic back then. The hypocritical Democrats of Sweden, didn't let jews to become refugees before the German disaster in Stalingrad. Today's Socialist pretend like they helped so many Jew to escape from Hitlers regime. Well it did happen, but only when they where certain that the Nazis was on the loosing side of the war..Swedens Socialist government sterilicided people with mental issues all the way to the early 1970:s...and yet these fools are saying that the right wing government of Sweden is a danger for Sweden...can you imagine the hypocritical mindset

This is not correct. Soviet Russia was attacking Poland together with Nazi Germany. Nazis and Soviet Union had that Molotov/Ribbentrop pact between eachother, which ment that they had come to an agreement to split Europe between each other. Soviet Russian is to blame as much as Nazi Germany for the outbreak of WW2. This is just propagandist.. Read the Molotov/Ribbentrop pact for yourself guys if you still believe it's not true.

Great Britain and France were only interested in Northern Sweden's huge Kiiruna mangan iron oar mine.. To seize it so that Germany runs out of it's high grade weapons steel which Sweden sold at a very high prize.. This history is anglo-saxon story of it all, not really what took place.. :)

3:13 was a bit misleading. Communists in russia at the time of the revolution had nowhere near the rescources to try to orchestrate an uprising in finland. The civil war between communists and capitalists was purely Finnish, and in fact the communist side was much more finnish as they were mostly comprised of urban workers and peasants. The white guard on the other hand was mostly led by german and swedish aristocracy which once again cemented the swedish grip on finland. (even today Finland has a swedish president Cai-Göran Alexander Stubb)

Yeah, coincidentally we now have president who is Finnish-Swedish by his nationality. Which is very rare, so your point was? Sweden do not have any sort of grip on Finland, if that is something you are now claiming, you can fuck right off with that bs.

Interesting reaction. Thumbs up and subscribed! :) I can't make suggestions for other reactions here, because KZfaq is "undoing" all postings, that are containing the names of other "video makers". I'll send you a suggestion via email. Greetings Mega

Honestly that portrayal of what unfolded has a lot of truth but it omits very important parts which makes me question whether it is ignorance or straight out russian propaganda to bring russian viewpoints out. Stalins Soviet Union was as expansionist as every iteration of russia has always been. The lands Stalin demanded to be handed to them included then second biggest finnish city Viipuri (Vyborg). So that "innocent" demand to have "buffer zone" is as hollow as these days demands for "buffer zone" on Ukraine. It is only a land grab, a way to steal land from russias neighbors. Nothing more and should never be understood or portrayed as anything else. Stalins Soviet Union had already made the Molotov-Ribbentrop agreement and with that Soviet Union and Nazi-Germany had agreed on which countries and areas they got to conquer, subjugate and annex. So again, there was nothing innocent in any of that. To omit these facts means the whole documentary is not worth watching.

Soviet Union would have done ANYTHING to be able to conquer the whole of Finland, because Stalin was not the person who was OK with being seen as a fool. The Soviets teito crush the Finnish troops and to finally conquer it. But Finland stopped their summer offensive at Tali Ihantala in the Karelian Istmus. That showed Stalin that it was a too big of a chunk to take out. Finlands military was never crushed and was still intact when the armistesday was signed... It's quite fun to listen to people that believe that Stalin didn't really care if he could conquer Finland or not... He was a psychopath and killed even his own best friends if someone of them said or did something wrong... Well, they didn't have to do basically anything because he ruled with terror and that would have also been the case in Finland if he has managed to conquer it as planned. This is also quite a fun statement they had: Stalin was afraid that the British and French would have helped out Finland, right. So what about the Nazis Germans that this video talked about in the beginning? Wasn't Stalin and Soviet Union afraid that they would use Finland to attack Soviet Union 🤭🤔...so it was the western alliance that he was afraid of because he was so I love with his new found Friend Adolf Hitler... This is also a way for the Allied Forces to pretend that they where and always where on the Finnish side and they where an important part of this battle.... That was NEVER the case... See.. Everything is built upon lies and politics, while ordinary people do what they are told and dies in huge numbers... The politicians knows that it really do not matter what happened in a war as long as you're on the winning side. Winston Churchill famously quoted: "History is written by the victors" That have been the case, basically since the writing itself was invented... My own quote will be something like: "We humans are a deceiving and lying type of creatures" 😉
