Update on the conflict in Ukraine for March 10, 2024...
- US President Joe Biden claims Ukraine can “beat Putin” if given the weapons and ammunition to do so;
- The weapons and ammunition simply do not exist in the necessary quantities to do so and what is being sent to Ukraine is performing far short of expectations;
- US-made M1 Abrams destroyed by Russian T-72B3 dispelling the myth of American military superiority;
- Western arms manufacturers continue claiming interest in building facilities inside Ukraine but fail to explain how they would prevent such facilities from being destroyed by Russian missiles and drones;
- The West is failing to deliver sufficient amounts of artillery ammunition with a recent plan to secure rounds from outside the EU falling short of its 800,000 target;
- Increasing talk of more direct Western intervention in Ukraine suggests growing desperation among Western capitals;

It is interesting that in every single war the US has been involved in the past 30 years or where US military equipment is used, the medias always claim how superior and great these US-made weapons are. The infamous «Wonder Weapons»... And people believe it. Every war becomes an infomercial for the US Military Industrial Complex while in fact, the US military equipment is just average. It started in Iraq with the infamous Patriot missiles that were in fact easily defeated by Iraqi Scuds... 70% interception rate in Iraq and 40% in Israel... As for the Abrams, these tanks have so many downfalls, weak spots and problems. But hey, at $10 million a piece, they must be good, right ? LOL

The Russian military has successfully targeted another American-made MIM-104 Patriot long-range air defense system of Kiev forces. Video footage showing the attack on the system was first published on March 9. Initially, the system was wrongly identified as a Soviet-made S-300. However, later additional footage showing the aftermath of the attack confirmed that two Patriot M90x Launching Stations based on German-made MAN KAT1 trucks were destroyed in addition to a third unidentified vehicle. The system was reportedly struck near the settlement of Serhiivka in the Donetsk region. Ukraine recently moved its remaining Patriot systems closer to the frontline in order to counter the Russian Aerospace Forces, which inflicted heavy damage on Kiev forces using cruise missiles and glide bombs in recent months. The U.S., Germany and the Netherlands paid billions to supply Patriot systems to Ukraine. The systems failed to make any difference whatsoever. Now, the Russian military is turning these systems into some of the most expensive fireworks in history. Russia has begun using a powerful aerial bomb that has decimated Ukrainian defenses and tilted the balance on the front lines. It has done so by converting a basic Soviet-era weapon into a gliding bomb that can cause a crater fifteen meters wide. The bomb is the FAB-1500, essentially a 1.5-tonne weapon of which nearly half comprises high explosives. It is delivered from above by fighter jets from a distance of some 60-70 kilometers, out of range of many Ukrainian air defenses. The FAB-1500 is another example of how Russia is fighting its war in Ukraine, inflicting massive destruction before trying to take territory. Recent videos from the battlelines in Donetsk region have illustrated the immense power of these bombs as they have hit thermal power plants, factories and tower blocks - places from which the Ukrainians coordinate their defenses. One soldier from Ukraine’s 46th Separate Airmobile Brigade told CNN from the frontline town of Krasnohorivka in Donetsk last week: “Previously, we were only shelled with artillery. Now the orcs [Russians] have taken on the town more aggressively [and] started using air force assets, particularly the FAB-1500.” “Why are they using the FAB-1500? Because the damage done by it is very serious. If you survive, you are guaranteed to have a contusion.” “It puts a lot of pressure on soldiers’ morale. Not all of our guys can withstand it. While they are more or less used to the FAB-500 by now, but the FAB-1500 is hell.” The use of FAB bombs has become a critical element in the Russian offensive in Donetsk region, especially in razing to the ground Ukrainian defenses in and around Avdiivka, which fell in February. Yuri Ihnat, Ukrainian air force spokesman, told CNN: “On the eve of and during the battle of Avdiivka hundreds of air bombs were launched within days. There were 250 of them used in Avdiivka direction in 48 hours only.” Justin Bronk, a senior research fellow at the Royal United Services Institute in London, says that “while manufacturing the glide kits is a bottleneck, the basic explosive package is something they have in huge numbers.” So the Russians have very heavy firepower to bring to bear on fixed defenses, increasing Ukrainian casualties, though not as yet enough to fundamentally change the frontlines. Ihnat told CNN: “This isn’t a cheap or fast transformation, but still, it’s much less than the millions of dollars a missile costs. It’s pennies in comparison with a missile.” Russian military bloggers began referring to the weapon last September when its accuracy was being tested. The Fighter-bomber telegram channel noted that “after many months of trials and errors,” a FAB-1500 had “accurately” hit its “combat target” for the first time. Fighter-bomber, which is close to the Russian military and has nearly half-a-million subscribers, claimed that the newly developed glide kit had increased the range of the bombs. It also said the FAB-1500 was accurate to within five meters.

Whole thing has been huge additional problem for Ukraine. Modern warfare is build on logistics and UNIFORMED fighting forces and they have ragtag of different vehicles, systems, ammunition etc. from various countries and decades. Who on earth could work or train effectively with all that different stuff? Let alone repair and maintain it? I am pretty sure they e.g. have various ununiformed "volunteers" from various countries running lots of stuff and equipment. E.g. western armors are quite different compared to stuff Ukraine's been used to, and e.g. US special forces had already been noted being there via leaks last year.

The problem with Abrams and Leopard tanks is their weight. They are heavier, by almost half the weight of any, especially the Russian main battle tank. Russian tanks weigh between 44-55 tons, and Western tanks between 55 and 80 tons. What is an incredible difference in weight, in addition to being lighter, Russian tanks have wider tracks than Western ones. Which in my opinion has no logic. Western tanks differ from Russian ones in that they look better and more comfortable with a lot and too much unnecessary technology. However, the Russian tank has the most important thing, which is maneuvering on territory such as Ukrainian, only the ground is nowhere stone, you can find a small hill every ten "thousand" kilometers in Ukraine. It's incredible how long that lowland expanse where the sea used to be 🌊 once upon a time in the past.

The US sent 31 Abrams M1A1 tanks to Ukraine six months ago, Ukraine only now managed to deploy around 6 of them along the Eastern frontlines and in less than 10 days 3 of these have already been destroyed, along with their NATO-trained crews. Extrapolating, that would be a 100% loss rate every three weeks. These Abrams M1A1 tanks are too heavy, too fuel-hungry and require too much maintenance, they just represent a huge logistics burden for the Ukrainian army and do not provide an effective strike force. Hence the disappointing performance on the battlefield. The proof is in the pudding.

Just to be clear the Iraqi "T-72" wasn't a completed version of T-72, it was T-72 Ural (1973). Didn't have a best ammunitions, it was still under development. US/NATO have been fighting wars against Army of tribes since 1991.

Iraq didnt have an airforce, so any T-72 Abram faced were few lucky tanks that survived massive bombing, and they were old version with inferior aiming system, no electronic targeting system, no infrared optics. And yes they had very old ammunition, with bad penetration, but even if they had good ammunition their aiming systen was so inferior, 1991 Abrams would pick then before they can see US tank. Any way the entire US and Westen military superiority myth was built on bulling weak 3rd world nation, which nobody helped. When they pick a fight with a 3rd world nation which has Russian back up they get Vietnam.

If memory serves well many of the Iraqi T-72 tanks were domestic copies of the Polish copy of the downgraded export version of the T-72, made of inferior local steel. The main ammunition they had was the 3VBM6, that the Soviets had already withdrawn from frontline service and designated for training only in the mid 70's, due to its lack of performance.

Technological superiority was demonstrated, the M1 was destroyed by a laser-guided tank ATGM. This is quite interesting because... Such missiles are designed primarily to combat helicopters. This also means that in the third year of the war there are some such missiles in a linear Russian tank. During this time, Ukraine managed to run out of Javelins.

Guided ATGMs have been around for a while, as have T72s. Technologies which have been proven and refined in many actual wars since the 1960s-70s, as opposed to western technologies tested against ill-trained, badly fed, badly equipped Third World forces, most just guerillas with no heavier vehicles than a Toyota Hilux.

In Vietnam, America threw everything at the vietcong who were "inferior" but Americans ended up running. Afghanistan the whole of nato was there but it was the same problem. Now they expect to easily win against Russia, a country with hypersonic shovels? Russia is out of missiles and toilets but only shovels took avdiivka. Nato shd be wary of these shovels.

Just to let you know, that T-72B3 didn't use a shell to destroy the Abrams, it used a 9M119 Refleks cannon-launched ATGM to destroy the Abrams. @@paulkuras18I know. In fact it's more humiliating for the "cheap and crappy" T-72B3 to one-shot the "Best Tank in the World™" with a missile capability no NATO tank in the world has or have ever had after the US and West Germany couldn't figure out how to make the gun/launcher concept work for the extremely over-complicated and disasterously over-engineered MBT-70 prototype main battle tank and the M551 Sheridan light tank, then gave up on the whole concept just because of one poorly designed ATGM and one dangerously perpetually electrified and thus prone to spontaniously detonating the charge bags Sheridan gun/launcher, got sour grapes, then never attempted to make a gun/launcher ever again. So much for the "backward" Russians who have capabilities on their tanks that they themselves label the shitty discount option that NATO genuinely isn't smart enough to replicate.

The T-72 received upgrades not many years ago; new gun, armor protection, engine, transmission, and more. It is now competitive to western tanks. In the U.S., your common citizen and rural bar-hogs think all U.S. equipment comes from Star Trek. Even if the M-1 is the best tank in the world, it is not invincible.

@Matt-yg8ub 2 ай бұрын
There are advantages and disadvantages to both systems. The Russian tanks are shorter because they don’t require a standing crewmember to load. They use fewer crew, and the automation makes them faster….. in real life. I do not deny that the Americans can hype up a marine on caffeine and Red Bull, and get them to load faster than the Russian auto loader, but give them a few weeks in the field, and they’re not doing that on a regular basis. The design of the American ammunition with blowout panels is Moore survivable for the crew …. The big difference is that the Russian design is Soviet era, and it hasn’t been changed since the Soviet era because all these hulls have been around since the Soviet era. The more modern T14’s use the blowout panels like everybody else
