The only ships Russia has now are one active Kirov class battlecruiser, the one surviving Slava class cruiser, two aging Sovremenny destroyers (one in overhaul), a few Krivak III frigates, and a few modern corvettes. Most of their submarine fleet is old enough to be museum ships - rarely are Russian ships ever successfully upgraded and overhauled. Usually once a Russian ship is laid up in drydock for upgrades, there it sits until decay becomes so bad the ship is simply scrapped. So yeah, losing the Moskva is a rather big deal for Russia since the Russian navy isn't the colossal jugernaut it was during the 60s - 80s.
