Interesting. Now the next set of experiments on rust can be the low oxygen kind that looks like black slime around the staples. Fun.

an interesting experiment and of course the next logical step after electro cleaning staples would be rust removal from the paper itself.

removing rust from paper in-situ would be the goal. typically just the inner leaf is the only really badly rusted one. It will be difficult, however as it appears to require several applications of the solution to reduce the rust so that it is clear in color and who knows if that will leave water stains on a book or not. it would likely work best if the inner leaf is remove first and then cleaned later!

@@ImmaculateComics I was thinking along similar lines, and if you remove the staples for rust removal, it would be a good time to work on the interior pages as well. It has been my experience that if the rust on the staple is bad enough to affect the outer cover of the comic, it is generally to far gone for rust removal and needs to be replaced with a staple from the same year and company if possible.

Staples showed little to no rust removal but what interested me was The rust staining on the paper itself And when you're using it on spots like you were? Doing at the end of your experi needed to remove the rust stains easier on the paper which it looks like it did on the spine which generally has No color.

The most visual difference to me was the drying of the paper. It does look a little bit less rusty. Does the undissolved material have any affect? I want so badly to use the homonym thiourea eraser, because I’m a 43 year old child. Will you remove the staple in a test so as to see the result on just the paper? That no-look dap from Nolan was 🔥. Thanks Rick!
