I found this FireFly Petrole Lamp to flea market. This is an old Petrol Lamp made in France manufactured by Guillourd to Nantes.
This old Lamp was so rusted and i didn't want to buy it because i was thinking that there was nothing left to do to save it, but the seller made me a good offer for it and i didn't resist. Only 1 euro.
I spend so much time restoring this Beautiful Lamp but worth it, what do you think?
Luciole in france means FireFly

Nice restoration. Looks like new. To light it, you push the lever down to raise the glass and light the wick from the bottom of the glass where it is lifted. Tilting is for removing the glass and cleaning it. I have watched a few of these lamps being restored and not many know how to light them :).

beautiful lamp sir... but that is not how you light a lantern. the lever at the base of the lamp just below the globe is how you lift the globe. also you have the wick sticking way too far out . fill the oil lamp with lamp oil denatured alcohol, let the wick saturate, adjust the wick just above its port, light it; release the lever to set the globe back in place then adjust to desired illumination. note, alot of wick sticking out does not necessarily mean good illumination. it's about finding that happy mixture of air and fuel. you'll get the hang of it. great job.. now i want to do some work on my 15 + lanterns in my house.

Glad you posted that. Yes Kerosene (UK = paraffin). Pétrole in French means Kerosene. Got a bit worried people are talking about gas / petrol! Very very dangerous, do not use. It will get hot, flare up and basically end in tears. They also tend to leak from the bottom roll joint. I have 6. They also work very nicely with lamp oil, gives a more gentle light. It's easy to buy from garden stores, safe to store use indoors and can get it scented or with a mosquito repellent. Fun to use, wicks last forever.

@@MrCivildefense Hi There. I used to have six but two got their glass broken, they were bigger than the others and very nice. They are lovely and low tech. If you watch Firstblood, you will see the most irritating part in any film ever. Rambo in the cave picks up two of these, shakes them and throws them down breaking the glass. Then finds a tin with Kerosene or oil, rips of his clothes and makes a medieval torch to use it.

I collect kerosene (oil) lanterns...... best fuels are clear lamp oil, avoid "ultra pure" ..... avoid all dyed oils....... the dye will clog the wicks. These are great for indoors...... Klean Heat brand kerosene substitute is cheap and good outdoors and is ok indoors. Regular K1 clear kerosene is the cheapest fuel but good only outdoors. K1 and Klean Heat are good in cold weather. They won't thicken like lamp oil. I love to burn these outdoors, especially in the snow....... oh, wick trimming is essential!! Beautiful restoration!!!

Excuse me, but that looks more like it would be a lamp for use with paraffin (kerosene, K-1) fuel.

That is one gorgeous restoration. The lever should lift the glass enough for you to light and blow out the lamp. You could do with a sand-blaster that can use plastic chips as well as sand. You'll find it very useful.
