After clearing an area for a future build I decided to use the trees and branches to make a forest arbor at one of the trail heads we have.

Thanks for the inspiration. I am in the process of pruning out my fence line. I will save the wood and use it to make arbors and trellises. Natures way at no out-of-pocket cost!

Thank you for this great video ! You are very conscious and responsible about the land , using all the element to build your arbor and not wasting anything ! I love it , I want to build an arbor for my native Passiflora Incarnata and Lonicera Sempervirens vines I think I will dig in the ground and make it stronger due to strong wind . Thanks great concept , I love your land and again respecting the land and all the life that live on it is the way to go !

Am in the process of re purposing a tree that I had to bring down (growing under my house) and wanted to create a pergola with a fire ring in the backyard. Your video helped because I was trying to envision bringing the limbs together. Decking screws! Good to know. I was also thinking of lashing and did some research finding the right ways to lash and that hemp is the strongest to use. So I feel I'm armed and ready to go. Thanks for posting this!! Great for us beginners! :)

luciahask64 That sounds like an awesome idea! I ended up going back a few weeks later and did some lashing to help the integrity of it. Pergolas are so cool too! I have some plans to build one but just haven’t gotten to it yet. I’d be really interested in hearing how it went! Good luck and ATB

This is a great idea, and it kills me to take all my yard waste to the road to be thrown in a landfill. How long does it last and is there anything you can do to increase it's useful life?
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 3 жыл бұрын
One of the mistakes I made was to approach it like a lumber type build, using screws. Eventually, I ended up taking it apart and using twine and rope to hold it together and it’s still standing. If I were to do it all over, I would remove the bark and wipe the bare wood with boiled linseed oil and notch it together like timber framing. I hope this helps, and I really appreciate the comment. Hope all is well with you and yours! ATB

Hi. I like the look of the arbor. What keeps a strong wind from knocking it over? I would have thought you would have had to set posts deep into the ground for stability, but perhaps not? Thanks
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 6 жыл бұрын
Diane Morissette Actually you're right. the next day I drove some short pieces of rebar I had in the ground at each leg and tied it off with some wire. It seems to have worked pretty good so far.

Very cool little decorative peice there. Does it let the 4-wheelers pass through easily, an dhow long do you think it will last. Really liking the garden too. : 3
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 7 жыл бұрын
Crazyboxhead this one is probably just as wide as our 4 wheeler but it heads to some rock stairs that it wouldn't be able to use. The other arbors I build will be out of lumber and will be a bit bigger. I think it may last about two years or so before I have to make some adjustments. I may go back and use some twine at the corners to hold it together if/when the screws start to fail from rot. Thank you for the comment. ATB

Yes, it did really well for a few months. We had a small family of opossums that decided they wanted to live on it and destroyed it unfortunately, but it lasted through storms and a couple direct hits from falling limbs. Cheers!
