Hey, there! You can use either a size 5 tatting needle, or a 5 inch doll needle (if you blunt the sharp pointed end). KZfaq doesn't allow me to put links in these messages, but if you search online, you can find them on Amazon, as well as Create For Less, and a lot of others. In stores they can sometimes be found in Hobby Lobby, and Micheal's. But online is your best option! Hope this helps! :)

The ring and chain are made the same way, with the same number of threads. The difference between them is when you slide your work off the needle, that is when you actually do the steps that make it a chain or a ring. Please take a look at either my "needle tatting basics" videos or my "speed tatting method" video, I think these concepts are shown in action on the second part of each video series. Hope this helps!!!! :)

Kathleen, If you catch it right away you don't have to start over. If you can locate the spot where the loop was before it tighten all up, simply insert your needle through there, and pull the thread tight, pulling the ring (R.) into proper form at the same time. If you can't find that spot, then tighten the ring (R.) up so that it forms roughly the ring (R.) shape. Then insert your needle as near the top of the start of the ring (R.) as you can find, and pull thread tight. Knot afterwords. :)

I have a pattern available, with step-by-step photos, on my RustiKate Etsy shop, and also my RustiKate Craftsy shop. I can't post links here or I would. But if you go to the bottom of any of the videos, end of the information section, there should be a link to the online stores. Hope this helps! :)

shuttle tatting is fun, but you have to get that thread to flip, if you don't get that thread to flip you will have to start over, that's the hole key, get that thread to flip

I'm new to tatting and a little confused. The instructions I've seen show that when you make a ring, it is done on a single thread but when making a chain your working with two threads. how do you combine these elements? I'm determined to make this bracelet as a friends wedding gift but can't get past making the ring. When I slide the chain stitches down on to the thread, I still have a loop as though I were making a ring. Obviously I'm overlooking something but I can't figure out what. Help!!
