Follow along as we embark upon this rusty vintage toy restoration and seek to make it better than new! I hope you may find this video relaxing and enjoyable to watch.
I purchased this 1976 Mighty Tonka Dump Truck from a guy that cleans out farms and sells them. He told me this one was in the barn. With the way it looks, I believe him. Follow along as we restore this one back to its original glory! I had to have some tooling made so that this Tonka could be restored properly. It is an awesome bit of kit !

My little brother is 8 years younger than I. I could not believe how fast the quality of Target trucks went down plastic tires and rims for his compared to mine being rubber and metal rims glass for the windows steering wheel natural seat compared to fake plastic just a steering wheel and a piece of plastic camouflage to hide the hole or the seat and the cockpit for the dump truck used to be. We had a 4% grade Hill on the property we used to live at my talking truck was a heavier gauge tin you could actually sit on it and ride down the hill. My little brothers couldn't hold up his weight it would put pressure on the axles where they wouldn't turn. You still made it look nice though. 🤠

I have several Tonka toys from my childhood and I would like to do some restoration work to them. You make it look so simple but I am still paranoid that I will mess them up and future grandkids wouldn't be able to play with them. Perhaps if I keep on watching your videos, I will work up the courage to do some repairs in the future.

Hi Robert, If I can encourage you, I think you should jump into your restorations. If you make a big mistake you will have learned something and you can redo the work. The nice thing about the Tonkas is that they are the exact opposite of a china doll. They can handle mistakes. You got this! I would love to see one finished.

I tried using a little vegetable oil around the base it softer it and then wash in soap and water

What kind of screws were those that you put on the front bumper? What size were they? Love the Tonka restorations by the way!
