My kids and grandkids are all grown now, but when I had littles at home, I sewed, baked, cooked, canned and learned every possible thing I could to stretch hubbys meager paycheck. Felt quite smug when friends would say, we could never afford that. And I knew they had a larger income.

Good for you! I live off-grid, and have a business where I buy used stuff and resell it on eBay, the consignment store, and also the flea market. A large percent of everything I own was 'used' (including my home which was a reposessed 'tiny house', and my solar array which I bought ala carte and hooked up myself), and even paint and other building materials (surplus) which I often get for free (or, pretty close). Growing and canning are next on my list. Yes, I feel 'smug' when I hear people talking about struggling to keep up with expenses. I'm shooting for near zero$ and am pretty darn close.

@@futurekronif you don't mind, does the business involve much paperwork/ uncle sam red tape? We are trying to work out a way to have our land bring in income bit I'm disabled and my partner is allergic to paperwork lol. Some well meaning folks suggest incorporating but that seems like it would be worse. Love your ingenuity. We too look for free/cheap but focus on quality. We got hardwood flooring for the price of just removing it from the home or was in. Love those win-wins.

I was a stay at home mom for about 30 yrs. My husband and I both felt that having a mom at home and present for the kids at all times was the best thing for our family of 9 and society in general. My husband worked but was available for the kids also. I budgeted, cooked,😊 canned and dehydrated. I also sewed. Our children grew up to be good and productive human beings. You are doing a great job with your family! 😊 keep up the good work

I am 75 years old and live by myself, and I am going to try a pantry challenge. It may be on my own, but it will be fun to try. Thank you for the inspiration, Ruthann! It's all to easy to run to the store so I'll see how I can manage to cut that back. Unfortunately I am allergic to all dairy and can't eat beef, so I look for recipes that don't include those items. I try to be vegan because it's easier to find menus/recipes in that category, but I do eat eggs and honey. Thank you again for all you share so generously. Many blessings to you and your loved ones.
@YeshuaKingMessiah

If ur not allergic you need to eat beef and other red meat, ruminants. Goat, lamb/mutton, bison, venison, etc Fatty fish is also dense nutrients. Red meat is soooo good for u, esp when fatty meat. Eggs very imp, even if just the yolks-daily ingestion! Honey barely has actual nutrients unless it’s raw, unprocessed and even then theres quite little (ignore the sensationalizers who think it’s a healthfood; it’s a sugar). Even poultry if u must, is better than rice & beans. Plants need to stay side dish at most and condiment usage at best. We are designed for animal foods at optimum. Everything the govt says do opposite, right? Invert the food pyramid! 😀

However, I never found any other videos that I could really learn from. But yours were taught well, easy to understand, and so none judgmental. Thank you. You have a very good style. I teach in Los Angeles, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I teach agriculture classes, animal science, horticulture, floriculture, and landscape. We are all about hands on, learn by doing. What a great pantry! I also can pineapple zucchini, and I have a video to show how! I actually wanted something sweet last night, and I opened a can, and had it as a "dessert". It was delicious! I have made Zapple and Peach pie filling from zucchini as well! So many ways to use up all of that Zucchini, since it is one of the things that grows in abundance in our Midwest! I am happy to have found another homesteader in the "area"!

Thank you for the granola recipe. . . and the idea of chili over twice baked potatoes. Here’s a quick recipe I got from Lumnah Acres channel for easy mayo- if you have a stick blender. 1 c. Avocado oil, 1egg, 1TBS apple cider vinegar, 1/2 tsp each of salt & gr. Mustard seed, black pepper to taste. Put all in a container and blend with immersion blender for half a minute or so until thickened. Store in the fridge. Super easy especially when the store is 45 mins away and you just realized you’re out of mayo and supper is in 15 mins! Sending hugs and blessings to you and your beautiful family.

Enjoyed your channel so far! You showed you own canned cherry pie filling, and I thought I'd tell you about a quick dessert, using it. Just roll the pie filling up in flour tortillias, in a baking dish like an enchalada. After you have your dish as full as you want, melt a stick of butter in a cup of sugar and a cup of water, and pore over the tortillias, and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Bake at 350 till bubbly and starting to brown. It is very good and so quick. You can add more sugar if you like it sweeter if your cherries are not very sweet. Great cereal recipe, and love that walnut chopper!

I just love your channel. Im a mom of 1, work very part time, and live in a city. We couldn’t be more different on paper… but I squeeze every ounce of these homestead and incredible techniques into my life as i can. When my daughter was younger and I was home full time I spent hours every day prepping and learning and doing all that I could to make what we had go farther! And it let me stay home for almost 2 years! Now my daughter is just over 2 and everytime I tell her I’m making us lunch, or breakfast, she pulls her toddler stool next to me and says “I can help you” and I know I’m passing down a love of health, skill, and passion to live better. Life looks different now, and I used to spend an hour or more preparing dinner because I loved it. My new way is I plan out my entire week and then I pull from the freezer, I slow cook meat, parcook vegetables, marinate, pickle, and make sauces… everything I could possibly need on Sunday night. Tomorrow when we have dinner we’ll have pulled pork from a huge cut of pig I bought and broke down myself, slaw, pickled onions from a local farmer I did in summer, tortillas I made myself, guacamole and cheese. All I need to do tomorrow is warm tortillas and meat. I can’t say I do ALL of it how you do, and I one day hope to, but I think it’s miles ahead of where most people are now, and ingredient wise - it’s simple.😊

It’s good to know that another canner has family members that don’t prefer their creations - sometimes it’s the butter or the cheese or the pickle relish! It is discouraging to get to spring and have a whole batch of pickles to feed the chickens!

Im a fairly new subscriber, and wondered if you would mind telling us the ages of the kids? They are all so cute and well behaved. You and your husband are doing such a great job preparing them to meet the world. I know they will be productive, hard working, loving adults. God bless

I love your show so much, and your personality is just the best. You're a wonderful mom and just charming and real. Well, you just made my day and my sides hurt from mentioning your least favorite store. 😅😂😅😂TJ Maxx is a great place to find "specialty" items. The other store is my very least favorite store, too. 😂😂😂😂😂 That tickled my funny bone. Here's another marvel you possess. Eighth grade education??? You are very intelligent. I have learned so much from you. One thing of note..... the wood chips in store bought cheeses are added for some reason. It's the cellulose. 😢😢😢Keep up the great work.

Found your channel recently and so enjoy it. It brings back memories of growing up on a Minnesota dairy farm. I have also lived in Wisconsin and Iowa so I can relate to your life. Nothing went to waste. I raised my family the same way. Thank you for sharing. I noticed your rhubarb plant. Oh, how I miss those rhubarb pies😋

I just found your channel this week and love it! I grew up with a large garden and helped my parents can and freeze almost everything. I now have a garden in the city and grow what I can but watching this channel has brought back many memories!

Since I have been bing watching your videos for the past couple weeks my husband is reaping and enjoying more of the homesteading life stylen cooking even though I have always canned and preserved our garden. This year we have expanded our garden and added some fruit trees. I plan to add muscovy ducks and maybe some geese within a month. Thank you for being so honest and clear in your step by step recipes and explanations of everything. God bless.
