As someone who has never lived on a farm, this was still very interesting. I really love how kind the children are to the animals, especially the cats.😀 Although some of the animals are being raised to sustain your family, it’s clear that their lives are valued and they are well cared for. Love your resilience and grateful hearts!

Oh how scary, I’m so happy they both pulled through ! As a heartburn sufferer, baking soda is like putting out a fire in your gut, I bet she felt instant relief even though it takes a bit for those bellies to start working. Well done to all of you for your great care and attention to your livestock ❤

I love working with my “boys” (even tho they’re in their 30’s) with just about anything! Last week we had to help a heifer in our chute - after midnight of course - as she had been in labor way too long, and turned out had a breech calf. It’s just nice, even after all these years, to see my now grown sons still willing to help their momma. 😊

Learned a lot this time. I have seen vets use charcoal on dogs and cats. A neighbor had his children work in pairs until they were teenagers. They combined chores to share. If one forgets, the other is backup. They would complain about twice the chores, but still got them done in the same amount of time.

So many of the old ways of healing are being forgotten that it’s awesome you all are viewing and appreciating farm lifestyles (even in the armchair ways😉) but however we need to support all ways of living…..in other words, respect how each person is raised! Our elders did the best they could in this life and that’s what is to be made thankful for! Don’t disrespect your way of life because the one(‘s) who raised you did the best they could! Which means they loved you to the best of their ability 💕

Hello RuthAnn and sweet family! I know that was a worrisome time for you. I’ve had to give my dog peroxide before, but I never had any troubles with my cows. We kept our pigs in a different plot of land and I didn’t have to worry about the cows getting to the pig food. Luckily, I had a veterinary brother in law that I could consult with if I ever needed anything. I’m so glad Brenda is doing better. Have a blessed day everyone!

Excellent lessons in the importance of being good stewards of the animals we keep. There were many things you watched for like the appearance of her eyes and ears, her chewing cud or nibbling hay, all of which tell the watchful farmer the condition of the animal. Also the various treatments appropriate for the ailment, including consulting the vet when needed, are all excellent lessons for the next generation of farmers to learn. Your videos are a wonderful example of how difficult and rewarding the homesteaders’ life can be.

I'm so glad the cows are better. It's difficult at times when you love and depend on your animals, and they depend on you. Farm life is great but not easy. I have friends that raise cows and have a butcher shop. We had a major power outage a couple years ago. They have automatic generators to keep the Butcher shop freezers running but no power at home with the cows. No power in the country means no water for anyone. It took a couple days for all of us to get power and they were in the last area. Jen said the cows were just bawling for water and she has never felt so helpless. The first ones to get power did manage to get a couple of trucks out to them with water. They next project was to get a generator for water in the barn.

So glad to see Norma and Brenda both well! I think it is incredibly helpful for people to see, who have never handled cattle, that even the sweet, tamer ones are not always cooperative and require strength and some level of risk to manage. Great job to both Mitchell and Maxwell, and always good to see hard lessons for everyone. My husband did not grow up around livestock, and when we got 18 guinea chicks the first time, i warned like a nagging parent about making sure the screen door on the back porch was always shut tight and latched. He forgot, and we came home to a door standing half open and a box full of no longer living guinea chicks. Obviously a stray cat had come in and done what so many will do. Eaten a couple, and destroyed the rest for fun. Husband's heart was absolutely broken (He loves birds of all kinds) but it was a good lesson, and he never forgot the door on any enclosure again. It happens to the best of us. ❤
