At heart I'm still a Ruglen lad though I have lived in NZ for 62years. Much of the old town is still recognizable. Lang may the wee rid lums reek.

I was born there 1954 It was beautiful then everybody was proud to say if they came from Rutherglen it was in fact a Royal Borough at the time. Are used to go to Sunday School in therechurch with the modern extension on the side right at the end of the video. Left just round the corner in King Street. I left in 1962 to live in Cambridgeshire. We obviously went back a few times but at the end of my dad‘s life I Said dad do you regret regret living in Cambridgeshire most of your life and leaving Scotland his words the only thing I regret we wasn’t there to look after your grandad at the end Of his time. I’m finding that quite upsetting I sit here with tears rolling down my cheeks.

Grandmother's home town. Their residence is now a tattoo parlour across the street from dr. Gorman statue. Been there twice in 80s. Grew up reading Sherear's "Rutherglen Lore," celebrating Burgh's Octo-centenary.

One question I have is: Are all the businesses closed at the moment because of it being a Sunday or something? Thank you for sharing this nice video.. Just curious though.
