Tbh, I'm sure the Empress Dowager knows Ruyi's true intentions. That's why she was teasing her about it. But Ruyi of course had to remain professional and discreet. Ruyi has always been smart and cunning, but she lacks the will and ruthlessness to bring her schemes to fruition. This is one of the rare moments where she actually went straight for the kill and dealt a decisive blow to the Empress.

This I think is right before she goes into the cold palace so it's one of the earlier episodes if I'm not mistaken. Ruyi goes into the cold palace because of the prince from empress they say passed away in the clip. She gets falsely blamed

The Dowager was like Ruyi once, as the series Empresses In the Palace was about her. The Dowager basically went through everything Ruyi will also go through. So Ruyi is Dowager 2.0. The difference is that the Dowager ultimately embraced the ruthlessness and scheming that were required to survive in the harem while Ruyi rejected them.
