8 mods I made to improve the fresh water systems on our 2016 Winnebago View. These RV mods can be used on many different types of rigs and are fairly simple and inexpensive to do.
Here's the list:
1. Water tank accumulator: .www.amazon.com/WaterWorker-HT... Home Depot for the fittings
2. Hot water heater gage: Keynice Mine has been replaced by newer model: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06...
3. From 140°F to 120°F thermostat: Atwood 91470 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
4. Added extra tank insulation: Home Depot
5. Relocated water tank level sensor
6. Changed shower faucet www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00... and shower head: https:www.amazon.com/Oxygenics-2648...
8. Added 8000 grain water softener: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
- Pressure reducer for city water: www.amazon.com/Camco-Pressure...
- Quick connect for softener: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
-Water hose: www.amazon.com/dp/B004ME11FS/...

Nice mods Ron! We own an 09' View and I've been lengthening my list of mods this winter, starting with an upgraded Solar setup I'll be installing in April. Liked and subscribed, thanks for sharing.

We put a float valve and clean out in the top of the fresh water tank so it shuts off when it is full. No more over filling.

Sid you have to cut into the tank?
@cherylsiedelmann6329
@cherylsiedelmann6329 Жыл бұрын
@@ontheroadwithron2432 Yes. We cut a 4” hole in the top and installed a float valve like in an evaporative cooler. Attached the fill pipe it and installed a water tight access port. I clean and sanitize it about once a year. It reduced the tank capacity by about 1/2 gallon. Now it just shuts off when full and water isn’t wasted.

I have a 2011 Winnebago View 24J which we have owned for 3 years. It just turned 60k miles. Last week I replaced the rear sway bar with a Halwieg. I could not believe the difference it made with the swaying top heavy issue. The stock sway bar was smaller in diameter and when I saw the Halwieg it was 1/4" bigger. I want to replace the rear shocks next.

Thank you for the information. I have watch several video's and now have subscribed. I share you love of soft water. Can you use the water softener under appropriate pressure from a water source directly into the RV connection rather than the gravity feed.

Hi Ron !! I am Bruce from NJ. I am getting ready to retire and I am considering an RV for travel with my wife and small dog. The View/Navion is near the top of my list for this lifestyle. You are VERY handy (like myself) and I love seeing the mods you have made !!! VERY SMART !!! I just discovered you this evening, but I have watching hundreds of videos on you tube for the past year regarding motorhomes and fifth wheels. I would like to ask you a few questions if you have the time. 1) Do you recommend this unit? 2) How is your gas mileage? 3) How many times did you require service/repair - was there any serious problems? 4) How easy is it to park at most attractions? 5) Do you feel the need to TOW a vehicle in your travels. That's enough for now, and I thank you for your responses if you can !!

Bruce Moore hi there. Welcome to the adventure. I’ve had this RV for 3 years now. Yes, I would recommend the View/Navion as a good flexible unit for those who drive around a lot. We’ve never stayed anywhere more than 3 days, so never needed a toad. Some people pull a Jeep for off road trips. My wife is not interested. I use my bike for exploring new places. I’m getting 15.2 mpg and drive 60-70 depending on terrain. Yes, it is easy to drive and park almost anywhere. My only issue right now is the bed is starting to sag a bit. I will need to address this soon. I’ve been to the Mercedes dealer twice. Problem was the Axxess module that Winnebago installed improperly. After removing that it’s been trouble free.

Hey Road Master Ron! I too have a 24J and was looking to move the water sensor. I don't understand why you moved the full sensor to the bottom instead of just moving the empty sensor a few inches lower? I would imagine I'm missing something here in my thought process. Could you clear this up for me? Also, if I'm not mistaken, the View uses sonar sensors. How are they attached and reattached in our rigs? I'm loving the video's keep up the great work!

Basically, the top sensor was of no use to me. Showing I have 29 gallons of water out of 32 is on no use. Yes, I could have moved the bottom one ower, but then there would be a big jump from the 2/3 mark at 20 gallons left to the E reading at 3 gallons. Moving the top one, gives me readings at 20,9 and 3 gallons. They are stuck on with a sticky adhesive. Just carefully prided the sensor off the tank with a butter knife and just re-stuck it lower.

Terry Breen you unscrew the top cap, pour in two 1 lb. containers of table salt, let it sit for a while and then rinse out the salt. Very easy, I only do it once a year.

Thanks for the great ideas for mods. I have a 2016 24J as well, when I fill the fresh water tank all the water pours out of the in inlet door when I am driving and making turns. What fixes or mod do you suggest?

Don Martinez I have the same problem. I tried to find a plastic plug, but the opening is at an angle so I just ignore it. Some runs out but it doesn’t hurt anything.

Great video Ron. When you access your water pump, is there another way to gain access from any other area of the motorhome? I have the exact model as you do. Thanks.

No , it is surrounded with other stuff. Only access is the little panel under the bed.

What pressure did you set the accumulator to and could it be installed Horizontally? (Thinking of placing it in the far rear next to the Hotter tank on the 24V, but will connect it into the Cold line). Love the Video's and different ideas you have.
@ontheroadwithron2432
@ontheroadwithron2432 6 жыл бұрын
I experimented with a few pressure levels. Believe I settled at 20 PSI. Since it is a closed blatter, horizontal should be fine.. Try it out to be sure, but I can't see any reason it wouldn't work.

Just found your channel looking forward to implementing the mods in our View. Question for u, do u have a lot of road noise? Ours seems so loud. 2017 24J.
@ontheroadwithron2432
@ontheroadwithron2432 6 жыл бұрын
Funny you ask. I just got a sound meter to see what I can do to make it quieter. Most people say the RV is very quiet, but I find the furnace and Generator way too loud. You also get a lot of road noise, but still thinking about this. Tomorrow I'm adding another solar panel, so that video should be ready next week.

On the Road with Ron great! Road noise drives us crazy. Usually we listen to books on tape but it’s too loud. We thought about looking into different speakers but it’s still loud. I feel like it’s the floor. Carpet? Pad? Been searching on line for solutions. I think it would help with generator noise too. We just ordered the sumo springs not sure about the sway bar. Keep em coming not much out there for the View! Thanks bud.
@ontheroadwithron2432
@ontheroadwithron2432 6 жыл бұрын
My biggest improvement was adding the sway bar. It resists the tilting and does not effect the ride or going over bumps. The Sumos can also help, but of course will make the ride a little harsher (more stable = harsher on bumps and those speed bumps)

any thoughts on switching the 6gal water heater for a tankless on-demand?
@ontheroadwithron2432
@ontheroadwithron2432 5 жыл бұрын
Have thought about it, but not worth the expense for us. I have a tankless unit at home, but you can't run the water slowly or it will shutoff. Not sure if the Truma has that issue, but suspect it does have a min flow rate.

Do you have a reverse osmosis system? I hear they drain a lot of water. However, there are electric types that drain very little water....Unless you stock water bottles. Any suggestions? Thx.

Big Earn we use an RO system in our house but not in the RV. Uses too much water as you said. The softener is more like a filter to take the minerals out. It doesn’t use any water. We actually drink bottled water from the store while traveling.
