In a high wind situation we fill our fresh water tank for extra ballast. Also pull the slides in, centralizes the weight and cuts wind resistance. This will also protect slide covers from damage. Don’t forget to lower your flag pole!

Back in 2010 in the central Tennessee they had a major rain storm, it rain 18 to 21 inches in about 36 hours. There was a small town about 40 miles west of Nashville that flood so bad it lost all power, water, and sewer. It flood the water and sewer plants plus it knock out the big transfer station. It knock out phone and the 911 system. Plus it cut in town off from the whole county by flooding all the roads out of town. It was a couple days before they knew how bad they need help.

I am here in Spring Hill FL in my diesel pusher, I went ahead and emptied my tanks, brought my awnings in, lifted the jacks up, brought the slide in...disconnected from sewer and water once I emptied my tanks and filled the fresh water. I know I lucked out as the wind was not hitting the side of the bus, it was hitting the back so thankfully not much rocking from wind! But I had everything packed up just in case...I did end up moving sites even to the one next to me as my site had a tree that made me nervous lol...

I live in southern Louisiana where we have experienced 2 major hurricanes this year. Being from north east Texas this was my first real experience with hurricanes. Here are a few things I learned that you didn't mention. Make sure your vehicles are fully filled as soon as you hear the first prediction of hurricane. Gasoline runs out quickly. Also make sure you have enough propane to last you. We were without electricity for 2 weeks. Running everything on propane you will use it faster than normal. Stock up on cold foods if you have a way to keep them cold. Our Walmart had to throw out all cold foods because they don't have a generator, therefore forcing us to eat can meats and lots of chef boyardee ravioli.

Are you in an RV? Stocking up on food is tough with our small fridges but if anything happened that knocked out power for more than a day or so we'd head somewhere else.

I live fulltime in my RV but it's in my daughters back yard. I currently don't have a truck to pull it. But we did evacuate with both hurricanes. These were just the things we didn't take into consideration this being our first experience. I know most fulltimers can leave the area, but gas, diesel and propane are thing that go quickly due to the people in the area who are experienced and know what to stock up on early.

I haven't seen those except in the real high end rigs. It kind of weirds me out to pull the dump valve without my eyes on it - too many things can go wrong and that's not a mess I want to clean up 😜
@CCaudits

@@Five2Go I'm not sure if you know them or not but I got the idea from David & Brenda Bott from Outside our bubble. He put the valves in himself and also a switch. He has a window in his bathroom were he can look out to see if anything is wrong. You usually don't have to many problems with the sewer hose because most of the RV parks require a donut on the end of the hose to secure it in the sewer hole or w/e you call it.

Hi there you guys!! Question you were saying that you emptied your tanks. Don't you have a full hookup so it drains each time you flush?? Off subject here, but I remember a thunderstorm in Texas with our camper. Had our slide out, and my hubby had gone to bed early, and I was still up on the computer, when all of a sudden, the wind blew up all of a sudden and lifted up the slide, and pushed it into the camper!!!!! Needless to say, it scared the begeebers out of me!!! I went running into the bedroom and flew into bed!!! The slide went back out, and we were afraid that it had ruined it. We tested it, and it went back in and out!! Quite an experience!! Never want to experience it again!! Thanks for all the common seems advice!!!
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 3 жыл бұрын
That's crazy about the slide! As for sewer - I hope you don't set up camp and leave your black tank open! If you do, you run the very real and very terrible risk of having all of the liquids drain out nicely leaving behind what's known as the dreaded "poop pyramid". Always always always leave your black tank closed unless you are actively emptying it. Grey can be left open because it's mostly just soapy water with very few solids, but your black tank needs to stay closed.
