Cena's ability to work a crowd, and roll with the punches was on full display that night. Crowd chants "you can't wrestle", Cena chain wrestles into a monkey flip, crowd chants "you still suck". That ECW crowd didn't give Cena an inch, and that ironically is what made him shine.

Cena was one of my favorites during the Ruthless Aggression era. There's a reason why he was pushed to the moon in 04, 05. He had that in ring energy. People turned on him because of the kids and the PG Era. but prior to that, he could always hang and put on a good exciting match.

yikes... go back and listen to the crowd reactions he got in 2004 & 2005... his feuds with Angle, Big Show, JBL, Booker T.. the people loved him for being an underdog and extremely good on the mic. even in 2003 when he was a heel everyone booed him while smiling.. they loved it... his doctor of thugonomics time on smackdown is a fan favorite . Cena was dope. his feud with Lesnar was memorable as well.

Highly unlikely . Too bad he never really had a run with the titles due to being busted on drug chages along with Sabu and was made to lose both titles and due a month suspension . Would have loved to have seen RVD dominate as both ECW and WWE Champion .

This is one of those rare moments where Cena is a natural Heel by a crowd and the one in Chicago against CM Punk.

I love the new look and set look extremely awesome and the quality top notch video. I remembered that match like it was yesterday back in 2006 it was a hell of a match cena getting boos like he was a heel.

I definitely remember that match when I was young seeing my two favorite wrestlers going against each other one on one champion vs champion one on one for the spinning wwe title and for the old ecw title that match was great and classic and that was my first time seeing rvd beating john cena at ecw one night stand year 2006 and edge spearing john to the Conor of the ring and it was first time seeing john getting booed by the crowd I was shocked I was always like why they booing him of course never been to ecw until year 2006 he did and this match is my favorite.

Rvd would make a good manager for the right team. Matt Riddle could tag with Orange Cassidy, managed by RVD. They could be The Weed Bros.

@@tacotom3492 Maybe you haven't seen OC talk normal. He's a pothead and if they let Matt Riddle be like his old self, that could really work. They all fire up that yerp. The WWE has turned Riddle into complete comedy though.

Seeing Cena becoming a heel in ecw but beeing an idol in wwe to the kids, is just a fantastic showcase of what good actors can achieve. Hats off to Cena, I hated him too back in the days, haha! The ecw crowed is just too much for me HAHA. Watched the first matches in ecw as a kid it was epic and seemed real, but afterall the many injuries of this guys RVD for example countless concusions show whats going on in this extreme show sport.

One of a Kind💯. That match was so good, Cena played heel so well, riling up the crowd, them chanting "you can't wrestle" and the fans back then were so invested it was so good
@Romchikthelemon

Playing heel? What does it mean man? What else he supposed to do in that building? 😀 ECW fans look for some justice in terms of "sports entertainment vs wrestling", and corporate superface Cena was pain in their asses at that time. That shit almost become real. Thuggamonics couldn't just walk away - his career would be gone. He ate a bunch of shit that night and I don't fn care about it.

@Mega Canon I wasn't insulting, however if you feel like John Cena wasn't a commerical draw in 2006 then you're personal feelings towards him are diluting your objectivity. John Cena was a rocket ship in 2006, his name was easily the biggest on the ECW ONS card. I'm not sure what you're trying to dispute. 🤷
