If you like to travel and enjoy nature and visit the incredible national parks and wonders that America has to offer... there are so many upsides to having an RV. First, you are at home wherever your go. That alone is more convenient than anything else. There is no need to make motel reservations.. pack and unpack your luggage and drag it in and out every day.... eat out every meal. Less worry about securing your vehicle while you are staying in a motel room. The expense of staying in motels easily offset the cost of fuel. The savings of cooking offset the cost of eating out every meal easily offset the cost of insurance and annual registration fees if you spend just one month a year on the road. For anyone who is relaxed and freewheeling.... there is no schedule. If you like a location you can stay an extra day or two... or live there or leave if you so desire. Finally... in this time of pandemic, you are much much safer in your home than living and eating in public all the time. You can control your environment.

Thanks so much for your honest, very direct, no nonsense approach to helping people. You really saved our bacon. I thought perhaps owning a 5th wheel could be nice for us and watched a couple of your videos tonight just for fun. Never knew of you before tonight. That "fun" turned into an incredible education. I realized we are just too old (mid 60's) and ignorant to even think we could handle this lifestyle. My husband and I are not repair lovers and the level of knowledge regarding these vehicles seems daunting. I love how quickly you get to your points. It's fabulous. Even though we are not fit for the travel trailer/RV route, I'm going to continue following your channel just for fun! Really enjoy your personalities and your son, too. Thanks again and again! All the best to you and your family.

Love this video...you guys hit it on the head. After rv'ing for the last 25 years, I agree with all your points...rv'ing takes some work but, the after every repair, if you do your own repairs, you become more knowledgeable about your rig and the issues become less of a headache and the lifestyle becomes more enjoyable.

I am a newby. So excited......Just bought a 2021 Coachmen 22D with EB. I pick it up in a few weeks. I bought the Beyond because I can park it in my driveway. HOA doesn’t allow campers but this is a van so it is allowed. Parked in my driveway I will use it. In storage not so much. I did 32 years in the Air Force and currently working full time...for now. I am a 62 year old single women and I am going to hit the road 2 long weekends a month and 2 or 3 long trips per year. My plan to get started is going to military base campgrounds on my own for practice and feeling safe when alone. I have 4 grandkids that live next door and all play soccer so we will be taking my “Beauty “ to soccer tournaments where you sit out there all day waiting for the next game. I do have an advantage with daughter and family live next door and have a 5th Wheel. And my son in law is in law enforcement. Thank you for all the excellent safety tips!

Great video. Yeah, we are seeing so many newbies out there this summer, first timers who haven't a clue what they are in for owning an rv. Sad but true. We started tent camping 30+ yrs ago, so we have been every level of the "sport", from popups to 28' trailer, and now have a sweet little 24' tow behind, finally found our perfect rig. We've already had it out 3 trips this summer, and heading out again for a 3-day weekend this weekend. We are lucky to live in the Land of Enchantment so we have forest and parks everywhere. Hope to see you out there sometime!

I bought an RV new off the showroom for my sanity and I keep it on a lot. We let the kids run around play and it's great. I "vacation" with points. So I keep the RV in 1 spot that is safe and I didn't bother with wanting to haul it. So I rather just pay for someone to get it from A to B if I wanted to xyz. In the end, covid isn't going anywhere any time soon. Best purchase I've made in a while, endless smiles from everyone even the dog. Lol great video but not everyone's shoes. Try it, see how much money you can risk. I dont use it full time but it's still awesome to have when I need to get away from the city.

Motorhome or travel trailer? I should make a video on this topic. Here are some of my thoughts... As far as I can tell, the only upside to a travel trailer is the initial entry cost. I have lived about 35 years in some kind of RV and prefer a motorhome 10 to 1 over a travel trailer. First there is the restroom. You must stop if you or anyone in your party needs relief. That gets extremely tiresome especially if you have children. Anytime you are towing something you have to be concerned about the hitch the breaks and other factors like fishtailing and off tracking... but not so much in a motorhome. If you land in a bad neighborhood you can start a motorhome and get the hell out of Dodge easier and safer. I have never leveled a motorhome but a travel trailer will rock and roll even with a little wind. That's a big waste of time and energy to do all that leveling. Motorhomes have generators... travel trailers don't. That means you'll have to pay for a campsite to enjoy air conditioning in the heat. Backing up a motorhome is simple but not many people can easily back up a travel trailer. Motorhomes carry more fuel, water, propane and wastewater. So stopping for fueling and dumping is half the hassle. A travel trailer shakes rattles and rolls and falls apart twice as fast as a motorhome. If your copilot wants a nap they can lay down and be comfortable while you are traveling in a motorhome. When you wake up in a motorhome you can drive away without getting everyone up and moved into a vehicle. I'm sure that RVers who have lived in both can add to my list.

I agree. You have to get hands on with these things. Yes, campgrounds add up as well. Very fast in some areas to. The other side of that is that most RV's are not meant to be used full time. There is a middle balance I think there. If you over use it creates issues. I agree on the renting first. Very real video y'all. Nicely done. We love our RV but face new challenges everyday. It has good days and bad days.

We have a class A diesel pusher. We bought it used and spent a few dollars remodeling and servicing it. The first year and a half we used it quite a bit, but this year with Covid19 and my wife being a high risk person we have only used it once to get out of the way of a hurricane. As you said besides making the payments we also spent $2,400 doing a through servicing and another$3,000 having it totally recaulked/sealed. Next year we hope to put it to good use again. The one time this year we did use it we felt totally safe. Like you we went to Tennessee. Happy travels.

We bought our first RV last August for around $13K from a private seller. We later found out that companies like Camping World, and our local RV repair centers would not guarantee work on the rig because the roof and walls are rotten. In fact, I recently damaged the front cap and when I went to get it repaired, the RV mechanic told me the rig was totalled. He told our insurance agent the same thing. Since the initial purchase, I've spent another $12k repairing and upgrading an RV that will never have a resale value. But aside from the expenditures, do I regret doing this? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Sure, she's s dog, but now I can learn how to maintain and repair things on the RV that I would never have done with a $100K+ motorhome. That said, I agree with everything you said in this video. I wish I'd done my research first, but then, I wouldn't have the joy of learning to fix my RV. I'm not a handy kind of guy, but for the first time in my life, I'm motivated to become one, just to fix "Gertrude". She's my 2nd best girl!

Go anyway! I was retired on Disability the first time we bought a used Rialta made by Winnebago with twin beds in the back. Didn't want to keep my husband from seeing America, I saw it from the bed in the back. He'd call out to me every time something was interesting to see, I'd hear "right side" or "left side" & he'd slow down a little so I could take a good look. As long as I had my bathroom & could lay down or lean up against the wall, I was o k. He got to go into sights that I couldn't but I had our pets to stay with me. Can't tell you how many emergency rooms we hit across the country but it would have been the same if we were at home. I think the fresh air did me good & we both look back with laughter about the time we were in a campground in Virginia. At 3 a m he called for an ambulance that took me away without telling him where they were taking me! By time he unhooked the rig & left the park nothing was open, he's driving unseen territory with nowhere to stop & ask. He's driving miles on a country road not knowing where he's going & thank God he saw a Hospital sign & tried it, he found me! Hubby had to eat out as I wasn't able to cook so he brought me take out & we used many meal replacement bars from Costco & Sam's Clubs across the country. We were together, living our dream no matter how sick I was & he had to do all the driving. We were even a big part & Charter Members of the "NO TOW BAGOS CLUB" in Florida getting started. We had a whole row of our little rigs that were too small to tow anything with at the Grand National Rally in Iowa that summer. The following year our little club grew to two rows at the rally. We made some life long friends traveling in our 21' Motorhome, one year 13 of us did a Caravan through Iowa & Nebraska. Afterwards we had a couple from the club ask if they could follow us to Oregon, because they'd never been W. of the Miss. We went to the Oregon Coast to be cool every summer as my illness made the heat exhaust me. They followed us for 38 days stopping unexpectedly at places of interest along the way. Great trip enjoying their company, we learned a lot about each other & our rigs. We look back on that trip with fond memories. None of us are promised tomorrow, if you possibly can DO IT ANYWAY! Fl. For Lisa and I, getting back into it now that retirement is on the horizon. We loved it when our kids were young and owned our travel trailers, but you are correct on all counts you shared. We did not use it as much as we wanted. Once the kids were involved in various activities which involved weekends, our travels dwindled and twice we wound up having to sell our travel trailers because of minimal use vs. monthly expenses. This time, we bought a lightly used, older Class A, paid cash for it at half the NADA value, are in the process of anticipated upgrades/repair/replacements, looking forward to using it soon. We have already done our shakedown trip locally, which was invaluable, and it hasn't scared us away from our plan. The part about non-use wearing out certain components is very true. Also, older components which are no longer made, especially plumbing (Copper vs. CPVC vs. Polybutylene vs. Pex) are a big consideration that most folks would not think to ask about. Buying at an under-value price is not always an option, but the buyer can often negotiate the price based on anticipated cost of necessary repairs and upgrades. RVing is definitely not for the faint of heart or for those who do not like being involved with upkeep and encountering unexpected challenges. Renting an RV is a good way to expose yourself to RVing without jumping into a purchase. It can deflate a lot of false ideation and also affirm the positive.

I've lived in it full-time for almost a year and it still feels practically new inside. 😆 I also love the inability to accumulate so much cr*p as in a house. 100% correct...a depreciating asset. But like motorcycles & boats, the fun factor is what you are buying knowing all well what you are getting into....and you can't put a price on that! But you can limit your loss by not buying new, and finding the right deal. I predicted in one of your videos a few months back, that after the summer with the explosion of so many new RV's sold and newbies on the road who haven't really researched the process or lifestyle, there will be plenty of deals to be had as some people realize this lifestyle isn't for them, and want out of their RV. The time is near! Thx for keepin it real!

Interesting to hear your point of view. My experiences of RV-ing, or owning a motor-home as it's called in the UK, have some similarities. It's definitely NOT an Instagram picture-perfect life all of the time however you do learn to appreciate the freedoms and breath taking moments, that do come with the lifestyle, all the more. There are lots of opportunities for "wild-camping" (not using an official site) here, especially in Scotland and Ireland however there are laws on the disposal of bathroom waste which means you may to check in to an official (paid) site at least once a week if you don't want to have to live with wiffy smells in the main habitat (because you can't use certain chemicals if disposing down public drains/toilets) or have to dig trenches to government specifications. Not sure who checks that but as it's a law, I am sure that someone must, lol! In the UK, if you live in your motor home full time, you do not pay council tax (a tax that pays for services including waste collection and emergency services). In addition, you don't pay standing charges for water, electric or gas - regular payments just to have the service provided to your home regardless of consumption. These savings can of course be offset and spent on your travel fuel, insurance, maintenance and cooking fuels and you can still come out with a good saving compared to a regular home. The downside of not having a fixed address is that it can affect your credit score. Furthermore, drinking tanks can be refilled for free at paid sites so I used to get rid of bathroom waste, refill fresh water and do laundry in the one overnight stay at an official site. You are right however, motor-homes are not armoured tanks and take a lot of wear and tear being on the road a lot and most likely will need replacing as often as you would have replaced a car so that definitely needs to be factored in to any plans to own a motor-home. So sure, there are pros and cons to the whole package, but then that would be the same regardless of what lifestyle you choose. It's good that you have been honest and open in this video though so that people can truly understand the pitfalls prior to investing. All the best.

I have lived in S Florida since 1972, and it's true with the taxes since there is no state income tax. Personally I 'm looking forward to leaving S Florida. It has become one big concrete jungle, overpopulated and very crowded. If you're not into crowds, concrete everywhere, and bumper to bumper traffic during rush hour I suggest you go further north in Florida like between South of Orlando and Port St Lucie, or cental Florida north of Orlando and Tallahassee. You'll want to stay out of Orlando (unless you wanna visit Mickey & Mini) as it's overcrowded and packed also.....Imho.

Hi guys... Been planning and researching for a little over a year now. I'm 67, retired and married, but my wife and I don't live together. (separate houses... and yes, it works well for us we're on year 37). My situation is that I'm not wealthy, strictly middle income, and I know I can afford the initial purchase but what I'm unsure of is if RVing full time will be financially sustainable for me. I'm not particularly mechanically inclined. I can do basic stuff, oil changes and basic maintenance but I'm in my mid sixties, 6'1" and 290 lbs.. (so about as fit as deflated balloon) and don't have a lot of patience for tedium. I'm not shy, dumping a black tank isn't going to bother me, but a sticky pocket door is. I've done the pre-purchase research and have a short list of RVs but I haven't experienced actually living in a campground, not even overnight. Once upon a time (back in 89) the wife and I took a 10 day RV road trip to Westchester NY (Great Dane nationals dog show) where we dry camped the entire time. We enjoyed it, but the RV was a rental, we didn't have to do any maintenance (other than fill it up with gas) so that really didn't qualify as background for campground life. Can you suggest any web-sites or research materials on campground living that give insights into costs, available amenities and or suitability for medium term residence ( 4-6 months tops ). My idea is to spend time near my grand kids in the winters (southern texas) and summers in Ohio with my wife for at least the first 2 years. Your idea of renting before purchase seems very practical and I'll begin looking into that. Thanks for the help and all the greatly informative videos. Joe P.

Number 1 recommendation to old and new buyers alike.... do your homework. Talk to and watch videos by seasoned RVer's. (not sales rep's videos😵) Number 2 (no pun intended) recommendation, never expect good results when dealing with the service reps. In some cases the experience may be enjoyable but don't get use to it. Our new 2021 Forest River Georgetown with 2200 miles has blessed us with a broken windshield, blistering/bubbling floor covering, a furnace that was in pieces and installation not complete but the fun part, after hanging our clothing in the closet... the hanging bracket pulled out of the ceiling. 🤯 As for service, it's crickets on the floor covering and no help, with a pre-approved windshield warranty claim, from a local dealer where we now sit in Oklahoma City. Claim (must be filed before repairs can begin) Also, Forest River service rep no longer responds to my question ”what now”? However, that being said.... we look forward to what tomorrow brings and being...... 🎼 on the road again 🎶 🤭I know.. that was bad.🤗

We've been bring sense 2014. Started with a small 18' bumper pull, traded it for a nice class C motor home after my open heart surgery. Much easier for me to set up . Dec. 31 2019 we bought a 2020 class A, and we love it. In the past year alone we've already put 14000 miles on it , the class C we put 26000 on it. In all we have been to all but 8 states and love it. Alaska is on the list this spring. But I'm a retired farmer, which means I have a ton of common sense, and know how to keep things running smoothly. Just don't sell your homestead for an RV . Not everyone that buys an RV or motorhome is intent on world travel, or KZfaq business as a means to “pay their way” while living the life of a nomad. Most of us use our RVs, campervans, etc., to visit family members that have moved many States away and/or just want to visit grandchildren. I plan on living in my van full-time and traveling part-time to places I want to visit, vacation with my cousins on a trip to the beach, or enjoy my hobbies of gem mining and gold prospecting with my friends, then returning home and working part-time to fund my next trip. I will stealth camp to save on “housing” sites, unless I find an affordable campground with power hook- up, or free parking so I can save some money for upgrading my rig with solar panels and lithium batteries, or a power awning. I already have ideas for free parking, and where I won’t need to find a dump station because I will not have a black tank, but a cassette toilet for easy waste disposal. Researching these things is fun and watching CleanRV Living episodes is very educational -thanks to Bob Wells, and others. HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU!

We bought a Tiffin Alegro 32' Motorhome last October. We planned to go to Lakeland, Florida on January 1, 2021. The we got Covid. Due to my weak immune system I have been very ill. Severe damage to my lungs due to Covid pneumonia I am on oxygen 24/7. I am so weak I have not been out to the RV for more than a month. We have yet to camp.

I was really worried how much my wife would want to go rv'ing because she hated tent camping. But after owning our class c for 6, weeks she loves it and and we've been out 4 weekends. We've only gone to places with partial hook ups, but one day we'll make it to a full hook up site,😆.
