LEO and retired LEO can carry in every state. If you are a regular Joe Smoe like most of us you are charged with a felony in disgusting states like Maryland, New York and Illinois. In my home state and states that recognize my concealed carry permit I always carry a gun. I don’t have as much as as a speeding ticket on my record. Shame on LEO in states like New York and Maryland who enforce these draconian laws. How do they sleep at night? Disgusting. They are directly responsible for tragedies such as this. I am traveling to Nebraska in my RV this summer to meet my brother at a campground for a week. He is from Oregon. I had planned on staying at a rest area for a night. After reading about this attack, I booked a campground instead. Politicians who support these laws and law enforcement who have the audacity to enforce these laws have stripped me of my right to protect myself and my family. The law as usual, does apply to them. They are as usual, is most situations, above the law and have the ability to protect themselves and their families Absolutely shameful. If you are active LEO or retired LEO I am interested in hearing your rationale behind enforcing these laws that directly violate the Second Amendment rights of the majority of citizens and put individuals and families at risk to suffer a tragedy such as this.

As a Truck Driver with 2M miles... We all carry a variety of weapons (Because we are transporting several million dollars of products.) From non-lethal to lethal. We carry gel Mace with dye, Bear spray, clubs, knives, and a side arm (.40 or 9mm women), rifle and shotgun (12ga or 20ga women)... Beware, just showing a gun of any kind in your hand is a Felony charge of Criminal Endangerment! Fire it = Felony Attempted Murder! (Even if you miss!) The bad person has to be inside of your Rig, to Prove Self Defence. If they are running away from you, You still get those charges! If you obtain the big 3 Conceal Carry permits you are covered in all fifty States. A weapon is Useless if you are outside of the vehicle, and the weapon is on the inside! Whether it is Wildlife going to eat/kill you... Or a Bad human. Truck Stops and Rest Areas are Dangerous places! Most have Homeless camps with Psychotic or persons on very dangerous drugs! These camps are also in Dispersed Camping areas where very few RVers are camping! If the area is all trashed with a lot of garbage... Go somewhere else! Pay Attention to Your 6th Sense! If you don't feel good about an area... Get the hell out of the area! You can drive another 5 miles and it should be safe. You should alway take a few minutes to checkout the area, people and other vehicles. Don't get out of the Safety of your Vehicle until you have! Run the Safety Belts through the arm rests of the Front Doors and buckle them!

I escaped Commifornia last year and I can guarantee they don't recognize ANY other states ccw. There's also heavy restrictions on WHICH firearms you can bring into ca. They don't even allow the 14" Shockwave or tac-14. Has to be the 18 Inch barrels. Just know your s b4 u go to kaliforniastan because they aren't very nice about giving warnings

Very good advice. As a combat Vet, I would add one thing. With unloaded weapons, practice clearing your RV or house room to room, covering each other. Do it slowly with full light at first, then speed up as you build muscle memory. Then with dim light and finally in total darkness using your weapon light as little as possible. Once you have it down pat, your body will coast through the motions, freeing up more of your brain for situational awareness and reaction to threats. That's why Operators run through the shoot house over and over. Also remember, you are responsible for every round you send down range so be aware of what is beyond your target.

I tell everyone that you better protect yourself and your family because to the police, unfortunately, you’re just a victim that requires a case report with a supplemental. I travel much like you. The only thing I would add is to carry yourself with confidence. Criminals are like dogs… they can sense the weak but will take a second thought just based on how you walk and watch everything around you. Your own self confidence will keep you out of a lot of issues.

(We both carry a few too) John got pulled late this evening… waiting fir the LEO arriving to the window we took inventory of all our ‘freedom tools’. Informed the LEO we had about 10 in the car. He asked where they all were and I replied how many were in MY range bag… ..the LEO leans in the window past John and starts asking me about what I shoot & what I recommend as he wants to buy his wife a ‘few’ to get her shooting.🤩 Our whole stop was about what I shoot😂 Never got a ticket and have a great story!

First of all, you're not crazy, you're smart! Me and my wife are both retired LE and always carry several weapons when we travel in our RV. " Better to have it and not need it than, to need it and not have it." The myth about racking a gun or a shotgun will scare the person off by the sound is not true.. Also you can definitely miss your target with a shotgun. The spread really is not that big. The only thing I would add is to add lights and lasers to your weapons. The light helps identify, and the laser lets you stay in cover while you can still put the dot on your target. It's sad, but the whole world has gone crazy! In addition, carrying an AR-15 will give you many more options, you can take on multiple threats, and you can reach out and touch somebody if the situation dictates it. May god bless you and your family. Stay alert, stay safe, and hope this election changes things for the bettter!

It all sounds good on paper. I ran into a situation in Miami about 20 years ago and I was well prepared so I thought, as a trucker for 29 years I always was well prepared but this time it was different. At 2am someone came knocking on the door and I froze and listened and heard other voices also. Even though I had my gun I felt like a sitting duck because if they started shooting , the walls on the semi truck are thinner than the rv walls. I called 911 and the lights from the squad car must have scared them off. Do not give up your position. Walk softly and leave the lights off until you get a good bead on them but always know that you are responsible for the resting place of the ammunition.

Allen I hear ya. This is why it is important to practice/train in various scenarios. That can get expensive tho. My way forward? Believe it or not, I play Mobile Call of Duty on an iPad. It contains various scenarios, varying weapons, and changing situations requiring regroup and/or replanning. Ridiculous? When I go to the range 99% of my shots are in the bulls eye. My reactions are quick, real time, fast reload, and no flinching. I’m 70 yrs old and I stand by this plan of action. Oh I understand some police use COD Mobile for same reason. Besides it’s a lot of fun. 😎

Being prepared doesn't mean confronting them every time and rarely needing to shoot. Each situation is individual and calls for analyzing the situation (in seconds) and reacting based on that situation. I've had several situations I was glad I carried and I was prepared. One of those I was prepared for a heart shot when the trouble maker (who didn't see me, he was aiming at my husband) chose to raise his hands instead of discharging the pistol he had just slapped a loaded clip in. He had been a troublemaker in the neighborhood for months. He used a city limit line to avoid arrest. Apparently being confronted by a citizen and homeowner helped him realize he could not continue to behave that way in our town and he moved away. Each situation is individual.

100 percent true. Having a gun doesn't mean you are going to get the drop on someone or stand in the street like the wild west. The fantasies are never like reality. If they think you have a gun they will sneak up on you or distract you. You won't even know you were under attack, and then your gun is on the street with the other million guns sold every month this year. The saddest part is just having a gun drastically increases your chances of being shot by accident. It needs to be a last resort.

Yes, call 911 but their response time would be a VERY long time so just assume or plan, that you are on your own when SHTF. It is very sad about the Nebraska incident. Rangemaster and firearms instructor here. You guys have absolutely the right idea. I was just watching a video on cargo trailer conversion and was wondering how I would work out firearms storage in an RV, and at the end of that video I see a link to this video. All the laws in the world don't mean anything if you can't protect yourself. Sorry for the length, but I've got some comments. Now that I've seen your entire video, some comments for you. First, yes, please practice and GET TRAINED if you're not...in all your weapons. You carry handguns and the shotgun. Training gives you the opportunity to get better and shakedown your weapons, to be certain they will work when you need them to. Plus there are generally camping destinations at or near where the training takes place, so you can take advantage of your rig. It's great being around a bunch of like-minded folks, too. Second; when you train you should take a class in defensive use of a shotgun, especially when you're talking about box magazine fed, semiauto bullpup shotguns like the one you have. It's a good choice because of its shorter length inside a very cramped RV space. But, there are three main caveats: 1) These guns have been known to have questionable reliability, so you want to go to a class and do the shakedown like I mentioned above to be sure it works; 2) Please don't say things like you can't miss with a shotgun. That's not true. Hence, training...and I would invest in a red dot sight for it, like a Holosun or SIG Romeo 5 that have shakeawake -- the sight will come live as soon as you move the shotgun. I've had a couple of Romeo 5s on a shotgun and a rifle and they work as advertised; 3) Ammo. Don't run birdshot in a defensive shotgun. If someone's in your RV, barricading yourself in a room of your house is not an option. You need to stop the threat now. 00 buckshot is your go to. Birdshot won't get the job done and it's possible, especially in the bullpup guns, that it may not cycle the gun properly leaving you with a malfunction to clear. Also, you need a weapon light or at least a flashlight. Weapon light would be better...and of course training on how to use it properly. I didn't hear you mention lights. Third, a big yes on keeping various firearms to hand in various locations in your RV. I do this in my home, so of course it's the thing to do in your home on wheels as well.

Fun story: Back when I was a young tyke, my father was traveling alone and heard someone open the tailgate of his truck while sleeping in the hotel. He was cleaning his black powder .45 cap and ball revolver at the time, so he opened the window, aimed, and said freeze. When the police arrived, the poor sole complained that dad was pointing a cannon at him. Dad simply showed the officer the unloaded weapon and they had a good laugh. What dad didn't say was he had his 1911 available if the revolver didn't do the trick.

As a sheepdog for 28 years, I invite the wolves to come and play. I chuckle at them. I refuse to spend ridiculous prices at rv parks unless I’m super tired and want to relax a couple of days. I usually stay at truck stops, rest stops. I walk my big pupper. I keep the leash and pepper spray in my left hand and my conceal carry “wink wink” ready for my right hand. My presence and voice has always been my most powerful weapon. I live in rural Montana, an open carry state and being retired Leo I can conceal carry. My always have with me are my S&W 9mm shield, my go to Glock 22 .40, my Ruger Super Redhawk .44 mag for hiking, my Marlin 45-70 Gov’t Dark and 12 gauge side by side. I keep snake shot as my first round in my .40 and 9mm for hiking. 12 I keep in my TT as my go to for late night surprises (backed up by .40). First round is green dyed rock salt. Hurts like a mofo and the extreme sting doesn’t subside and forces them to the hospital. First info I give is the dyed rock salt so they know to inform nearby medical facilities. I can’t say how many walking zombies I’ve chased off during the latter part of my career while off duty and since. Great video for the masses of sheep. I have carried a gun every day for the past 30 years. (most days, I carry two on my person) I was in a McDonalds when it was robbed and they shot their gun inside. I had a gun in the truck, but none on me. Since then, I have never gone un-armed, except for when I am in an airplane, and then I have one in the checked baggage, and put it on in the bathroom once I clear the secured area. There are only 3 types of people. The predators, the un-willing victim that chooses to defend themselves, and the willing victim that relies on the police to save them.

Good timely video about real life situational awareness. preparedness. While stealth camping in my shuttle bus I woke to some noise and movement. An unknown number of people were attempting to jack it up, take my expensive Commercial Bus/Truck Tires. I was armed, they fled. Left some tools behind which have come in handy for doing bus maintenance. I did not call it in cause it was in a state that protects criminals, wants all good residents to be disarmed victims. I didn't want costly legal headaches and the threat had passed. Also didn't want to wait for any new threat to roll up. So I tightened all the wheel lug nuts, loaded up the tools, got back on the road heading out of that state. I try to live a quiet peaceful life but life's not always quiet and peaceful. Each passing day it seems more people are running on anger or looking to make a quick buck at someone else's expense. And yes we are often seen as easy targets. For those times I say it's better to be the survivor, than the statistic. To risk being judged by 12, rather than carried by 6.

Try to use a revolver for your defense gun so you’re not leaving empty shell casings lying around that the police could potentially do a forensic exam on and use rounds like a .357 Magnum that are non expanding made with a heavy copper jacket or are solid copper to get a through and through wound with no bullet left in the body that the police could recover and do a ballistics check on. This would be especially beneficial in a remote area where you’d have the ability to ditch the body and bug out, also be sure to ditch ant foot wear that leaves and identifiable print in the ground to cover your back side and gives any investigating law enforcement the minimum amount of info.

My 12 gauge pump shorty (18 1/4" barrel) is in a spring-loaded garage type broom holder on the side wall right next to the bed. It is rubber-coated so it won't scratch the gun, and the gun can be pulled out of it quickly. The gun has never came out of the holder, regardless of road conditions, and it is always in place and easy to grab while on the bed if I need it. Oh yeah, and I HAVE practiced shooting it laying down!!! Another tip: I bought a set of those nasty blue-white fog lights everyone hates because they blind you when coming at you. One is mounted on the driver's side under the overhead cabinet next to the bathroom wall. It is aimed at the side door. The other one is mounted on the crossover at the back of the hallway at the bedroom. If anyone opens the side door, the lights come on and blinds them. And I am BEHIND the lights!!!!! For spouses or other adult family members: 1. If there is something or someone that you see that makes you nervous or if I ask you to, please get behind me. 2. I will not use my firearm if it is possible to deescalate or flee from the situation. 3. If the perpetrator has already drawn and is pointing a firearm at us, I will not draw mine unless an opportunity presents itself. Remember that compliance does not guarantee safety. 4. If the person displays a knife or raises their garment to show they have a firearm in their waistband, I will draw mine and engage the person, as appropriate, while you get to safety. 5. If I raise my hand and use the surrender language like, "Hey, I'll do what you want just don't hurt my wife" I am preparing to draw and engage. Be ready to flee or get down behind cover. Ala Danny Reagan. 6. If I have to use my firearm call 911. Whoever calls 911 first is usually going to be in the most favorable situation with the law. 7. If a shooting incident ever happened it would not be unusual for me to end up being handcuffed and taken to the police or sheriff's station while they sort out what happened. Optional for kids: 1.Train them that if you ask them to do something, please don't ask me why, just do it and I'll explain everything later. Like, “Go to mom in the RV and lock the door”. 2.Practice playing a game called the "freeze game". If I say or yell FREEZE you will stop whatever you are doing and freeze wherever you are. If you are riding your bike, running, walking or anything else just stop until I can tell you to GO. There will be prizes for how well you play this game. You have to be ready to freeze at any time. Note: This is helpful in a variety of situations when telling them to “freeze” might save them from an accident or from them walking into danger. Making it a game helps to keep you from making them unnecessarily fearful.

In our RV her 38 special is our last line of defense because of laws state to state even with the CCW in some states you can have the gun and the ammo but they have to be in two different places. I have a 50 caliber double barrel PCP air shotgun that will fire 18, 22 caliber round balls at over a thousand feet per second and 12 inch pattern at 25 yards or a 336 grain slug at around 700 feet per second and has no muzzle flash to give away my position. It's good for 5 shots at full power before needing recharged uses 3000lbs of compressed air. It's our main weapon in case of break in. Also have a 30 caliber PCP full auto machine gun with the same power as a 22 long rifle that's good for over 100 shots at full power before needing recharged and can fire 16 shots in less than a 1/10 of a second. I prefer these as they always stay charged and loaded but since they are not considered a firearm there are very few law's state to state to worry about

We use our class C as a decoy, where we set up a tent a couple hundred yards away. I put motion detectors all around the tent, and can blow holes through that tent fabric like it's nothing. When a 12 gauge meets nylon, it ain't no contest. And duct tape fixes up them holes right quick.

How do you deal with varying gun laws as you travel? Serious issues in many Liberal areas. One can be a felon-in-waiting crossing into CA, WA, IL, NY, NJ...

Here in Canada the law is very strict about carrying fire arms., not like there in the 🇺🇸 USA. And you can’t cross the boarder either with fire arms. I’m not sure how I feel about having forearms so accessible like you do there . But I understand the need. Maybe the manufacturer of RVs need to promote more security features for RVs. Like camera, alarms, strobe lights etc…just an idea 💡 Like you guys ❤🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦

I'm a 22 year military, 3.5 LE Vet, being proactively responsible for your own safety is a message that needs to get out to everyone. You are ultimately your own "first responder", being able to handle your own security and first aid is of paramount importance. I would stress that you research and educate yourself on the laws in the states you plan on traveling in, you may go so far as avoiding certain states or it may make a difference in the manner in which you carry your defensive tools. Stay safe, stay free!

My step mom, wife and I were taking mom’s RV from Sacramento CA to Oregon for a family reunion. We stopped for dinner in Redding CA and the RV wouldn’t start because of a short in a wire. We caught a ride to a local 24 hour Walmart and got some wire and tape to repair the RV but we had to walk back to the RV. Three drug addicts out driving around looking for someone to beat up for pleasure found us and stopped. Being that we were from out of state and my CCL didn’t have reciprocal privileges in CA because of the politics there and their disregard of the 2nd amendment I couldn’t legally carry my weapon. Legally I could only use equal force and since I didn’t have two other guys to help me fight them off, I ended up in the ER blinded in my right eye. Three thousand dollars later we were on our way to the reunion but my face had been rearranged and I couldn’t see through my right eye. I ALWAYS carry now and I am very hesitant to go to states that protect and encourage criminals (CA, NY, IL). I was trained when working for the Navy/Marines based in Panama by a Marine Force Recon staff Sargent and came from a military family so guns have been a part of my life since I was 6. I trained both of my sons and they both got their CCLs. It saved my youngest son’s life as he stopped a shooter, saving the lives of possibly seven people including the shooter. He double tapped the shooter in the stomach and then disarmed him. As soon as he was no longer a threat my son went to work on him and slowed the bleeding until the emergency team arrived saving his life. Personally, I wasn’t trained to shoot for the stomach and I probably wouldn’t have saved the shooter. But I am proud of my son and who he is as a human being. Because the mission was specific and we needed to keep moving, it was two to the chest and one to the head so nobody got shot in the back as we moved forward, that’s how we trained and that’s how I trained my sons. I strongly disagree with something in this video. Bird shot! I’ve seen people hit with multiple 9mm rounds, 5.56 rounds and 7.62 rounds continue shooting. Bird shot is just going to annoy them. You don’t want to annoy them, you want to eliminate them as a threat to your life and the lives of those you love. I too am a Christian! But I’m clear on my role in the kingdom of GOD. . . I am a protector of GODs sheep. If the predators kill me then I’ve failed at my job. There are no warning shots.

You have every right to protect yourself and your family. I wouldn’t consider going out in a rv without a way to protect myself. My family went in a rv trip from Virginia to Florida about 40 years ago I was just a kid. I remember my dad and uncle had protection they traveled with. It was just second nature. No taking chances.

As John says, follow the laws. For me, I follow the Federal rules for interstate transportation of firearms and have my guns unloaded and locked in a safe, and my ammunition locked in another safe. However, I carry a Byrna "launcher" that is advertised as legal in all states since it's CO2 powered and shoots balls that contain tear gas, and also balls that are empty and called "kinetic" for those states like New York that don't allow tear gas or pepper spray. The non-gas balls would put a major hurt on someone even without the tear gas.

However, as a fellow RV’er who never camps south other 49th, it’s a sad commentary on American society. We are cautious, but do not need this same level of Defcon. Great advice. Thank you for sharing. May I suggest you switch to a more compact shotgun. I have a Mossberg 590 Shockwave 12 gauge. It is not as long so would be a better choice in the confined space of an RV. The overall length is 26½ inches. I keep one beside my bed. It fits nicely into a violin case. Incase you want to carry it around.
