Happy Wednesday y'all! We hope you're doing well. We are excited to see reservations begin to open at some of the campgrounds. Have you heard of other reservation systems beginning to reopen? Please remember to travel safely. And if you missed our Grand Teton National Park series... you have to see this incredible park: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndOqqcdl3dzOoGQ.html .

One COE Park I recall being very nice is Cedar Breaks on Lake Georgetown. If y’all haven’t been there, you should try it out. There were beautiful sites overlooking the lake and a nice long hiking/backpacking trail around the lake. We have camped there as well as backpacked and camped on the trail. It’s very nice. Also, over in my area are several COE campgrounds around Sam Rayburn. We haven’t visited them all, but have heard they are nice as well with very wooded areas. Another place is Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area in Davey Crocket National Forest. It’s a little less developed but a nice park and the 4C trail runs right through the campground. Happy camping!!!

Would you suggest always having a your own place and piece of property which you can park? This Corona thing just took allot away from the venture. When this happened, you were lucky to have friends that would let you park.

That is a great question, David. And one that a lot of full time Rvers are wrestling with. We were definitely lucky to have such great friends to park with. A home base is certainly something to be carefully considered going forward.

Hello - since our buyers defaulted and not knowing how soon another buyer will come, we decided to put up a cover for our RV. It should get installed this week sometime. We will more than likely do the reflective insulation also. Sadly we had to cancel our T.T. for June and July that were still in place when we scheduled before our closing. We will take a vacation sometime this summer now. Excited for your new travels.

So happy you are getting out on the road again! Can’t wait for the Corp of Engineering’s park reviews and River Authorities areas. The two COE areas we have been looking at are Canyon Lake (between Austin and San Antonio) and B.A. Steinhagen Lake (in Woodville just west of Louisiana). In your research have you come across any info on these two COEs? I have the RV Camping in Corps of Engineering book, it is very helpful but nothing like “boots on the ground” 😃

Hey guys I thought you should know that there are concerns about using Reflectix on motor home windows. Apparently it’s such a good insulator that it doesn’t let the heat buildup between the window and Reflectix dissipate. That heat buildup can break double insulated glass. Check out this forum post: www.forestriverforums.com/forums/f97/reflectix-dangerous-for-seals-and-glass-119243.html

Hi Gary! We have a 2017 Tiffin Breeze 31BR. It is 31.5’ long and 11’7” tall. We chose to go with a small diesel pusher to allow us to have more options for campsites in places like state and national parks. There are still some places we are too big for, but we haven’t had trouble fitting in anywhere yet. This past summer, we were able to camp inside several of the national parks (including Yellowstone): kzfaq.info/sun/PL3vGBOkcBm2UL8jYSpVgNMnLKfCbO-k3z

Here in California things to my knowledge things are still closed down. I have heard there is some National Forest disbersed camping open, but then I heard it was not open, and their website does not say for sure. I would not head out there before checking. Most Private campgrounds are only open for full time RVers who have been allowed to stay during this whole thing, and people who were already there. No new campers. I tried camping overnight in my campervan at a trailhead so I could get up early morning and hike before it was hot, and got the knock on my door and told I had 30 minutes to pack up and leave. These are normally trailheads where this is allowed. So.....Redwoods National forest has opened some of their trails for dayuse only, and if they are loop trails, you can only go one way on them. So...no way to get back to your starting point....makes no sense. And Joshua Tree National Forest has opened one or two of its family type campgrounds, and a few of its trails, all also now one way, so you cannot turn around and hike back to your car. None of them have water, restrooms, etc. You have to come in fully self enclosed and haul in all your own water. No visitors centers are open. Good news, fees are temporarily waived in both of these parks, bad news, they are having a problem with people and their trash. People are not hauling out their trash. There are a few opening up in California, and here is the best list I have been able to find. but limited and no running water in any of the national forest sites or state and national parks as mentioned. must be self contained. Haul in and haul out leaving no trace. San Bernadino National Forest- Opening May 22 Bierbaum Pepper Farm- Campground Open River Run RV Park- Campground open Fresno County Parks- Campground open Lake Helmet Campground- Campground open for RVs only Lake Isabella KOA- Campground open to self-contained vehicles Rivernook Campground- Some camping open Lindy’s Landing RV Park and Campground- Campground open Coyote Valley RV Resort- Campground Open O’Neill RRegional Park- Campground open Ventura Beach Resort- Campground Open William Heise County Park- Campground open Sequoia River Ranch- Campground open Frandy Campground- Campground Open Link to a website supposedly with listings nationwide statewide what is open and what is not. thedyrt.com/magazine/local/campground-closures-list-covid-19/#california

Thanks for all of the information Jackie! That is really helpful. Sorry to hear that you got run off from the trailhead. That's a real shame. We've heard the stories about folks leaving trash behind too. Just makes us sad. We wish everyone would be responsible for caring for the places they enjoy visiting. Hope you're doing well and are able to get out there soon and enjoy some hiking.

Great question. Yes, we can see out of them during the day. At night when our lights are on, we can't see out, but others can see in (like a regular window). They make a huge difference in blocking out most of the heat before it comes in through the cab windows. We are not affiliated with Magne Shade. We just really like the product.

We were able to get into a COE park for 5 days over memorial weekend. I was really looking forward to some fresh air and sunshine. Then...I got an email today, 1 day before our trip, that said we have to wear a mask while at the park. A mask outdoors, a mask outdoors when its 95 degrees out. If my little girl wasn't excited about going, and I didn't already load groceries and pack the rv, I would cancel. Why even open the campground?
