I was discussing the latest RWF events with a group of comrades from another MMO. One of them summarized it as "So Blizzard decided to suddenly stop catering to the no-life hardcore nerds they've been catering to for years, without communicating anything? I'd be mad too." Great discussion though.

This was really amazing insight on this tier's RWF and the environment around it. I think fairness would require either Blizzard to step in or an org to start a "league" where all money coming in was split amongst the teams, but of course that has a problem of it's own with the whole Race being once every 6 months. I think the entire esports scene is in trouble right now as you said and I feel like part of it is just people not wanting to get together and find a better maintaining solution.

Good video. As an old time raider from BC and Wrath, I agree with most of the stuff Sloot says here. I haven't played seriously since Legion and I haven't played at all since the beginning of SL, but I think what the high end raiding scene has become is not good at all. Its really an abomination and probably does hurt the game overall.

It's sort of like the problem that Formula 1 racing had. There is too much of a difference in funding for the current top 2-3 guilds to ever fall out of the top. They would need to somehow limit the amount of analysts, splits, and roster numbers.

I've watched Sloot since Panda days and like a lot of us veterans we've seen the game go up and down through the good and bad and I think a lot of us or for my self would say Dragonflight Is a cool expansion but the damage from BFA,I did like that expans but I know a lot did not and for sure Shadowlands burned a lot of bridges/damage. I guess for me as well as other as sloot mentioned I just do not really care anymore, sad to say all good things do come to a end, sure there Is interesting things guild wise association here and there but I am kinda like him ehhh. Interesting conversation though.

The whole part starting at around 8 minutes was so sad to me personally. I used to be so mega invested in the world first race back in the day, especially around wotlk, and I'm sure that money did play a part or whatever, but when the entire section starts with: "we had to go from 5 analysts to 1" and I literally in shock because to me the world first is still a group of dudes that really like to play the game. I know for a fact that it hasn't been like that for a decade, but still... Ensidia/Paragon didn't have 1/100th of what you're talking about. I remember in... like BFA or something... Legion(?), when I think Method got a world first and anyways whatever expansion Sco was interviewed and he said something like: "Yeah, we owe about 100 million gold to people on various realms for profession maxing etc" or whatever it was, and I was like: "This is it. High-end wow is dead to me." Doesn't mean in any way that I disaprove of it, it's just that to me personally, the dream that "me and my guild" could compete for a top 50 finishing is stone cold dead. By no means do I object to the current RWF; I'm sure it works great for loads of people. It's just not the game I grew up with. It only took me to reach 28 years of age before I fully understood the saying: "It used to be better". I wish you the best of luck in your next RWF good sir. You have always been a fantastic guy and I used to hang out in your stream quite a lot back in WoD. I might try to catch a stream during the next RWF! At least if you're not doing the 50th split of the week ^^

Maybe this is just me, but I feel like Blizzard doing Contest mode like Destiny 2 does could be a viable solution, no? It gives them the opportunity to KNOW how geared folks are and can tune around it. Say it's active for the first week of Mythic. Then you run into the issue of:"Okay, but what about those who don't want to be capped or impeded on and just play the game normally?". Yea, what about them. Idk. I'm a fan of the RWF, no doubt. I love sitting here, watching both Liquid and Echo, cheering for both etc...But something needs to be done because it's getting ridicioulus for sure. I feel like that they are heaps of Guilds who technically have the drive and motivation to go for World First, but lack of funding and reach (helpers etc) makes it an impossible task...and that is kinda shit. I don't blame any team on the Top for utilizing what they can though, it makes sense. Time commitment is massive, so compensating staff and players so that they are able to commit said time to it just makes sense. But I don't think anything is gonna happen; Echo and Liquid would be frankly stupid to try and make it easier for others/impede themselves by suggesting regulations...so really, we need lowkey need -something- massive to happen. What is that something? Fuck if I know. I don't think a "random" guild no one expected to come in and claim World First would help either, cos all that does is push Echo and Liquid to go even harder on those things i feel like.

The issue with trying to obtain world first in BDGG is that you're up against super stiff competition. Echo and Liquid have an insane amount of money behind them which funds all of their data analysts etc which in turn gives them an even bigger competitive edge. It sucks that money even plays a part in races but it just unavoidably does

Pay to win world first. 21 man raiding a 20man raid. Paying an entire staff to develop custom borderline gamebreaking addons. Paying HUNDREDS OF THOUNSANDS OF $$$ for splitruns. World first has always been a massive meme.
