Samaneri Jayasāra - Wisdom of the Masters

Ryōkan Taigu (1758-1831) was a quiet and unconventional Sōtō Zen Buddhist monk who lived much of his life as a hermit. Ryōkan is remembered for his poetry and calligraphy, which present the essence of Zen life. He renounced the world at an early age to train at nearby Sōtō Zen temple Kōshō-ji, refusing to meet with or accept charity from his family.

Dear listener, this is an old recording/video full of copyrighted music so if you don't have ad blockers or a YT Premium subscription you are going to be hit fully with ads from KZfaq on behalf of the music companies. I have no control over this save deleting the video. Go to my HOME page - find my Google Drive link and listen to it from there - ad free! You can find links to all of these in the top right-hand corner from my Home page on my You Tube channel. There are other ways to overcome this. On your end, you can simply install an adblocker on your device (search Google for them - many are free); change your browser to "Brave browser" - it blocks all ads on all sites; join YT premium and avoid all ads on YT. Alternate translation: Early spring The landscape is tinged with the first fresh hints of green Now I take my wooden begging bowl And wander carefree through town The moment the children see me They scamper off gleefully to bring their friends They’re waiting for me at the temple gate Tugging from all sides so I can barely walk I leave my bowl on a white rock Hang my pilgrim’s bag on a pine tree branch First we duel with blades of grass Then we play ball While I bounce the ball, they sing the song Then I sing the song and they bounce the ball Caught up in the excitement of the game We forget completely about the time Passersby turn and question me: "Why are you carrying on like this?" I just shake my head without answering Even if I were able to say something how could I explain? Do you really want to know the meaning of it all? This is it! This is it!

As I read the comments below, I see that you have become as if the Taylor Swift of Aussie Buddhist Nuns. Then I find myself beginning to remember what it is like to be young again. Someday i may even listen to a taylor swift song, but not yet....for now, listening to the great masters is more than enough.

Hi there, I used a little bit of copyrighted music in this video so YT plays ads to collect revenue for the record company and this music is obviously in the middle of this amazing teaching! Sorry about that. There are many ways to overcome this. On your end, you can simply install an adblocker on your device (search Google for them - many are free); change your browser to "Brave browser" - it blocks all ads on all sites; join YT premium and avoid all ads on YT. The other easy option is to listen to my recordings (and download if you wish) either on my Google Drive or the many Podcast platforms where there are no ads. You can find links to all of these in the top right hand corner from my Home page on my You Tube channel. Hope you can find some good options. The ads will only appear on those readings where the music is copyrighted and I am trying to avoid this now as much as possible. Warm regards

I used to be bothered by the ads.. now they are just funny reminders or even challenges. Sometimes the contrast is so blatant it's hilarious.
