Ryan Blaney had a lot to say about the high tire wear from the Cup race at Bristol. His biggest soundbite came at the very end, when he dismissed a question about Ross Chastain. Frontstretch's Alex Gintz caught him.

Obviously he wasnt too upset about the contact with Ross! He didnt even mention his name or car number, he just said he got used up and abused from then on...understanding it was just a product of the racing at that point. It seemed like everyone was just trying to survive and get what they could. The media is just fishing for controversy as usual...good job to Blaney for not taking the bait!!😂

They needed to manage the situation better. They know how to manage tires. They just didn't want to do it. Usually, fuel dictates how long you can run, but at some tracks, it's tire wear. This should be Goodyear's target every race, to make them stop for tires before they have to stop for gas. Having said that, next year, give them 12 sets instead of 10 so they can still drive fairly hard, but still have green flag pit cycles.

They actually started cutting back on testing before covid. The teams got what they wanted. It was to save them money. Covid just put it in high gear. It's the same thing with the cars. Teams wanted a car that didn't need so many people to work on them. Now we have this car.

@michaelsheets6851
@michaelsheets6851 4 ай бұрын
@MichaelWilliams-vb6wr the teams for years wanted NASCAR to help cut costs. They started with impound races. That led to the one engine rule per race, now the one engine for multiple races. Before that, about 3-4 engines per race weekend. Then they started with the tires. Goodyear leases the tires per race, before that teams would buy sets and take them to the shop. Because of Roush saying Gordon's team was soaking the tires as a way to police and cut costs, the current tire rule is in effect. Teams wanted more cost cutting before covid they started reducing the practice time. With teams using the same engine for multiple races, few would do long practice sessions. With covid and the way things were no practice. Now we have show up and race. It's a huge cost cutter for the teams. The current car is also what the teams wanted. An easier and cheaper car to repair.

I am a Blaney fan but obviously he doesn't know how to manage his tires. He is just whining because of how fast his tires fell off vs others. This tire fall off was a little extreme but this was some of the most exciting racing I've seen in a long time. If they could get this tire to fall off around lap 75 vs lap 50 i think it would have been perfect.

In his defense it seemed liked the Penske cars dropped off faster than many of the other drivers for whatever reason so his perspective may be skewed. Sure, maybe he could have done better at saving tires but to some degree it has to dependent on the car too.

Ryan is doing a bit too much claiming that Goodyear secretly created a new tire. 😒 Nonetheless, I agree that teams should have had time to create a setup for the amount of tire degredation. In this case, a tire test would have been futile because this was seemingly an accident on Goodyear/Nascar's part that may have solved the short track problem. But you know what would have made this not as big if a shit show... PRACTICE!!! When teams have enough practice to make a full run, they can sort out these types of issues! Ryan may be pissy after his crappy run, but he has a point. Dont change a damn thing Goodyear/Nascar! Lets run it back!

He says, "obviously they brought a new tire", but one of those sets was last years tire with the old date code and wore in the exact same way. There's a massive difference between half throttle to save fuel on a superspeedway and actually being a skilled driver to save your tires on a half mile. It's not a coincidence Hamlin and Truex were 1/2 and Bell and Gibbs fell back 9/10 in cars that were ALL dominant all day long. Blaney is wrong this time.

I hate that people want to bash Goodyear when we actually get a good tire wear race. Sure, I would prefer the tires to last a little bit longer than what we had Sunday, but Goodyear rarely provides tire that actually wear because it looks bad on them. No tire wear makes for boring races but since everyone wants to bash goodyears when tires actually go out they're never going to purposely provide a tire that wears out. This weekend was just a lucky accident for us fans.

What a whiny unprofessional little baby. Was the reporter not supposed to ask about the contact with Chastain?

If a reporter has a right to ask any question he wants to, a driver has the right to answer any way he wants to. Ryan has been ask about Chastain repeatedly and is tired of the medi trying to create a controversy. I was proud of Ryan's response. He has more class than the reporter.

This is why the stands were empty at one point when racing was good could not get a ticket for Bristol sold out every race now junk. Nascar needs to wake up change whatever to get fans back. Your almost in same league as nfl or nba all crap.

The stands at Bristol were empty, I never would have thought, Bristol, NASCAR is about to lose TV, they are about done, I don't know who enjoys watching Chevy powered Toyotas dominate every race, pace cars, commercials, cutaway cars, banners all over, Toyota slapped all over the TV screen all day, like most people, I'm sick of it.

I was so disappointed with that race and the crap television coverage. Ryan was 💯 % right about the tires. They sucked and so did the television coverage. I only watched about the first half and then turned it off because of the non stop barrage of commercials.

@@wildish500 and Blaney raced for wood brothers for 3 seasons paired with being the 3rd tier car at Penske until Brad left. Cindric has only won 1 race which is virtually a toss up and I’m sure if you call yourself a nascar fan you know how the wood brothers have been doing. Put literally anyone in the 1 car and they have atleast the same amount of wins.

I really don’t understand why this guy is so popular. He’s maybe the second most entitled guy on the track behind Denny (which is saying something), he cannot handle being raced, and almost every thing he says is layered with this nasty attitude behind it. And winning a title hasn’t made it any better, if anything it’s made it worse. He believes he’s so much smarter than anyone else. He’s a very good driver, but I don’t understand the hype around his personality.
Now THIS is entertainment! 🤣
