German sense of humor is to humor what German cinema is to cinema. There are some outstanding outliers but not many. I'm from germany, and yes, irony and sarcasm is really, really hard to translate (thats why i watch a lot of those movies in english). Deadpool for example was really hard i can imagine. They even changed some lines COMPLETELY because it wouldnt have made sense to just translate them. Its not an issue just with germany, it goes through every translation, where it has to be lipsync or its some reference to something else (which people might not know in another country, like some celebrities). But at least with Deadpool they really tried, Free Guy too, though it was not THAT impressive translated. On the plus side, germany is really good at dubbing movies, compared to the US. I watched some european netflix shows in german dubbing and english dubbing. The english version ALWAYS sounds like a german b-movie from the 80s. Or some crappy Videogame-Voiceover from the early 2000s, while in german you often can't even tell it's dubbed. But for german's not beeing funny: Yeah, we don't even have a SINGLE late night show here, that's how funny germans are in general.

Sometimes we sit in a workshop cellar in berlin kreuzberg. Me from former GDR one guy from BRD one from california one from bristol one from moscow. We laugh our mf asses of cause we share the same humour. Its not about borders, its about who is used to this fun and who is not. In germany we call ryans homour "dry". Not everyone gets it but who gets it loves it.
