"Just trust and obey." That's how I don't follow. I don't wanna believe in something just because someone tells me to. Not everyone is as gullible as Christians. I'm not going to change my lifestyle and force myself to believe in some contradictory religion because someone else has some "experience with god" (or maybe a voice in their head?). I have gone to many religious camps and done a lot to do with Christians, because of my girlfriend. I have asked "God" to show himself and prove to me that he is real, and it's never happened. And I'm not an Atheist, because I don't know what believe. I'm Agnostic and believe that there could be a god, but Christianity is definitely not the answer. And if you question why Christianity isn't the answer, then you obviously haven't analyzed your religion and questioned it enough.. Or you're just another gullible person hoping that there's more to life.

Brendon Miller No one is trying to force you into anything, and I'm sorry you feel that way. But to many of us, trusting and obeying is like a rock. In order to embrace religion, you need to be able to do this, it's necessary to have faith. God may never make himself apparent that easily, but if you believe, and have faith, He's there. I just met you, and I'm not the type who would usually post comments like this, but I wish you good luck in life, with whatever you choose to do! :D

I wouldn't lump all Christians together, because some people do just believe whatever is taught to then blindly, but other people do really wrestle through things and try to understand as much as they can. For me personally, I used to feel a lot like you did, I used to ask God for an experience, and felt like he didn't care about me because I didn't have this transcendent experience right away. I did eventually have what I believe was an encounter with God, but that happened after I spent a good amount of time praying, reading the bible, and actually looking for God in my life. To some people, God shows up in a huge mind blowing way, but every person's walk is different. But even rhough all of us have different stories, how we as Christians know God is real is because He satisfies in a way that nothing else has ever been able to. I used to seek for meaning in my looks, abilities, grades, and was plagued by self hatred, insecurity, jealousy, all that stuff, but God changed all that. We believe in God because not only has he revealed himself in all creation, but he makes a tangible and real difference when everything else fails. Peace :)

heartwideopen357 Ya it true what you say i just wanted to add because i when i was about nineteen or twenty i went through a pretty dry period in my life felt like i didnt feel God and i was doubting big time, but i still kept praying and doing research in the bible and research by historians and things like that, and it only strengthen my faith. so i though logicaly i believe that Jesus is true and that his words are true. So i came to the belief that he is the messiah. and i would have times where i would feel close to God and but i would still feel like something is missing, anyways i had a chance to go to France with some Christians from my University to go to this christian festival, and it was really cheap so i thought ill go it will be a good way to see france ( i wasnt even focusing on the whole christian festival) but when i got there i felt so close to God like ive never had before and i kept getting a word from God that said if you keep my commands i will establish you ,and i am making a covenant with you, and while i was in the midst of about two thousand christians singing at the praise concert there, one of singers said to the crowd ask God of anything, I asked at that moment for God's holy spirit and right after i made that prayer, the speaker said they will have a time were people can give their lives to Jesus and they will pray for the Holy spirit to come down on them, and i knew this is what God brought me all the way to France for. At that time i fellt so much love from God and i could see that he doesnt condem us at all. At every moment he just wants to bring us closer to him. To make a long story short, there are plenty of times where we feel God is close or we feel alone but God taught me that he is not just a feeling and that he is always there, but also to expect with God amazing things and amazing moments

Brendon Miller yo Brendon you ask God to show himself to you but you say at the same time Christianity is definitely not the answer isnt that contradictory If you dont know why are so closed off. don't you know there are people who get Phds in studying the bible (theres alot of information in the bible and alot of history and information surrounding the bible if you think something is contradicting it might be because you are not understanding the text, the time period and the circumstances. Or the point of the book in the bible. I know people who are always doing this test thing with God. They say if you are there prove it. Do you think thats how long lasting relationships work. When you first met your girlfriend did you say to her, prove to me now that you love me, or i just wont go any further with you. didnt you try to first get to know her, which shows effort and that you want the relationship. Dont get me wrong God always wants the relationship with you but we got to want it as well and to seek and thats were Jesus said you will find.
