For this first episode of our new season, we take you into the glamorous life that we live before we can start voyaging in the Med again!
During the coming weeks, we will be focusing on boat work, and this week we take you along through a few projects, starting off with the most glam of all: servicing the toilet.
The ride continue with repairing some docking mistakes I made a couple of years ago and cleaning the teak.
All good fun! But I’m grateful for the little beer fund that some of you guys started, it came very handy at the end of this video! :)

Although I still suffer from severe PWS (puppy withdrawal syndrome), it is really nice to be back home. We are ticking items off the to-do list a nice pace, so if all goes well, we should be back on the water in a couple of weeks! 🎉 /Sophie

I love wood on boats. It looks beautiful. Manys the time, as I leave the marina looking forward to a nice days sailing, I have been sat at my helm of my all plastic boat watching wood owners grafting away at maintenance and have admired their dedication.

Semco Teak Sealer after cleaning the teak. It isn't oil, it's silicone. Unlike oil, dirt does not stick to it. Everytime you use chemical cleaner, you remove some of the soft pith of the wood, eventually ruining the teak. Or, just leave it gray and wash it with dish washing liquid (Dawn) and a brush.

Many thanks for the video. Teak decks - my experience has been that decks are best left without oil. Also, a tip I learned on fancy big charter yachts is to only wash teak across the grain with a soft brush, never with the grain and never use a stiff brush. While the immediate visual impact of a stiff brush, paticularly working with the grain, is lovely it absolutely knackers the wood and opens it up resulting in raised and shead fibres and wood that lasts a fraction of its expected lifespan. Soft and across is all they allow on superyachts. Keep the videos coming please but no more fluffy clickbait :-D

I also enjoy Sophie's quirky personality and sense of humor. :) I've seen on some of the other youtube channels I watch that most, if not all Pleasure Charter boats just use plain salt water to scrub/clean their teak decks, which they give a quick clean every time they wash the boat, and I think they also say to scrub perpendicular to the grain as it prevents making deep grooves in the grain of the teak over time. Good luck with all your projects and just think how much sweeter and rewarding the sailing will be after all your hard work.

I used to do teak in that way:) And people will say that I am nuts but I used the following device method for over 7 years at least once a year and the teak looked the same as when I bought it. I discovered a modern contraption called a power washer and it works great. I had a 42' yacht that I could do all the teak in about an hour from an upright position:) They have the electric ones in the US you can get for around $70 US and they are awesome for cleaning and washing your boat as well. The key is you need a water maker or be at the dock to use. Strangely enough there are KZfaq videos out there that people make portable water makers with them and use it as the high pressure pump....Genius:)

Yes Sophie, I agree with your assessment, having bought Birchwood 33 cabin cruiser in December, so far I have ripped out the old gally counter top, raised the pilothouse roof and built storage under the vee berth. All in a days work as a boat owner :) But apart from all that I look forward to putting my feet up in the summer as we cruise gently along the Caledonian canal looking out for Nessie.

When flying I always like to sit slightly behind the wing root, so I could watch the wings Flap. Now you know Why Sailors are Infamous for Cursing and swearing....And Drinking a LOT. Sophie, if it Helps any, I like the Boatwork vids the best, because EVERYBODY shows the Sailing . It's a little like watching a Chess Tournament, unless the seas are over the cabintop. But, I'm sort of a Gearhead...But NOBODY is quite as much Fun as you. Ryan is getting better with Being Himself, which is Great. Y'all are like a Modern Version of Laurel and Hardy, or Abbott and Costello. I'll leave it to you to guess who is the Straight Man, lol. I desperately NEED to find a girl like you to bring me Up out of my depression, lol. Ryan, is she a Riot at parties? Hard to be Down with Sophie around, and her endless supply of saucy little comments and observations. It would be GREAT to get to chuckle all day...

Hi guy's! I have to say something that I have wanted to tell you since watching your videos from the beginning; you both make a great comedy team! Sort of like a modern Laurel & Hardy team. We have the extremely funny; with a French type of humor: Sophie; you make me laugh till my belly hurts! And then we have the straight man: Ryan; setting up Sophie with a lot of her jokes. I was raised in Minnesota so I understand his stone-faced stoicism; it's from enduring those long winters; but underneath we are a ball of energy just waiting to get out. And the mid-west humor can be so dry; you could make a great cocktail out of it; so Ryan is the perfect foil for Sophie's ironic wit. ☺ And having a boat is a great way of practicing your craft of humor; so many ways of applying irony. This one was classic; I knew by the title it was going to be funny; boating is one long joy ride; no job to worry about; no house to keep up; no car to repair. Hahaha! Thanks guys for the laughs and God speed your work projects; so you can enjoy at least one week a year of true cruisers holiday on some tropical beach.

Well I would not fill my aquarium with the stuff. The real harmful chemicals in this product are actually broken down into harmless other chemicals, during the cleaning process. It actually dissolves a minute layer of the teak deck. All other chemicals in it are either so diluted that the response to marine life should be not be affected, or the react instantly to the Cl (Chlorine) abundant in salt water solution to form some form of gas.

@@traceraley9249 Yes it is toxic in concentrated form, straight from the container. Once diluted when used only 0,1 to 1% of any of the listed chemicals used are in the cleaning solution on the deck. Of which 90-100% is used during cleaning. Not to sound condescending but you do know the world around you is made of chemicals. The keyboard you type on is some sort of polyprotopolhleen, the air you breath is O* (can be 2 or 3) N CO2 and loads different other ones. The impact on the environment will not be more, probably less than the painting of your house.

Sophie and Ryan, thank you so much for the fun and informative videos. Sophie, what software do you use? I know you are not on permanent holiday, but there are many that envy you. I am one of them. Have you two thought of hosting classes on line and having a paid sign up? I would pay you to have such a class and be able to ask and answer major questions.

Hi Ronald! I use premiere pro :) I don’t feel competent enough to give courses in premiere pro, but I love talking about making videos and gladly chat with anyone interested in the topic! /Sophie

Are those biodegradable black nitrile gloves? (yes, it is a strange question.........). I "discovered" biodegradable black nitrile gloves on amazon the other night while stressing about throwing out all the plastic gloves. Any ideas if they hold up while using resin and solvent?

Yes, when something breaks, it needs to be in the most unaccessible spot of the boat. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a boat 😂

Owing a boat is just like owning a house except when the work is done at home, you are not on the water.
