Maybe he is not illiterate. Maybe he is a foreign specialist? We have had a Chinese technician at our oil plant. He knew "hello" and "bye" but I doubt he could speak or read any language besides Chinese :D

i think that's probably the best choice, it would make sense, perhaps he was called to the plant to solve a problem he was more specialized in, but he still didn't know how to read their language, perhaps just speak it…

Local chinese community probably took care of him; and they tend to look out for their own. That's pretty much the reality of working anywhere in the West. Occupational language requirements in Europe/North America died like a snowball in hell when globalization, so-called anti-discrimination laws, and economic migration became normalized.

@@ForeverTemplar It's ok. You need a specialist, that you don't have, fast - you "book" one from your foreign partner. In our law, there is a special position - "foreign specialist", highly trained professional. He can bypass language requirements

I imagine he has a severe case of dyslexia but has determined not to let that stop him and with grit, determination and learning aids he managed to get through school. That " never give up fighters mindset" is reflected in his martial arts as well.

I like how, even after all this time playing it, Cataclysm can still scare you. Whether it be zombies in the dark jumpscaring you, or seeing a huge tear through a reinforced concrete wall and wondering what the hell did that (and if it's still around!)

I would like to propose that he's illiterate - in the language used on all of the equipment here. Perhaps he's a visiting technician from a foreign country.

As a fairly well off child in Poland, Dylan was a prodigy at science and was top of his class in fencing, his parents forced him to learn English he picked up speaking fairly quickly but he never got a good grasp of the spelling. After he got a well paying prestigious job as a power plant technician in America he was quite regretful of his lack of dedication to his English classes but most of the job was either speaking or numbers related so he expected to catch up on his studies while working there but that all changed when the cataclysm happened...

Dylan seems like one of those guys who can't read a menu without help, but you find out has somehow been making like 150k working graveyard shift since he was 14 lmaooo. Cool to see you trying this scenario!

I could see a recent traumatic brain injury making him unable to read, and he's been fooling his employers and doctors into thinking he is still capable of reading so he can keep his job.

Dylan might have extreme dyslexia or maybe suffers debilitating migraines when reading/ maybe? He could have relied on text to speech programs or memorized lectures throughout his life to be able to pursue his passions in science. Given his mastery -- of all things -- fencing and judo, perhaps he came from a family of means that would have made finding a career in nuclear science with his learning disability easier. Whatever his origins may be, Dylan seems like a fascinating and challenging survivor! I'm excited to see where he goes next.

At 18:50 you overlooked a toolbelt which would have been quite useful storage. Also, there is a hand crank charger for batteries in the room where you found the welding torch.

By the feral mechanic actions we can clearly see that he wasn't Dylan best friend 😂 maybe he knew that that Dylan was illiterate and nobody believed him, consequentially he has gone mad because he was convinced that Dylan caused the cataclysm.

One way to explain the illiterate trait is to say that Dylan is foreign - for example as part of an official (foreign) government fact-finding delegation (with translators, etc) that was visiting the plant.

Dylan is Gordon Freeman. He can't prove he's qualified to be there, and like most videogame players, never reads anything infront of him. (The amount of times people are confused from skipping tutorials)

I always thought it was funny how much safer you are being in the dark in CDDA. I tend to think that a real life zombie apocalypse you'd fare much worse without being able to see well. It's a fun change of pace setting-wise, but I got tired of flicking lights on and off. lol

Why do you turn safe mode off instead of using the ' key to temporarily ignore the specific threat? That was why you got jump scared - you could actually see the zombie much earlier, but you had safe mode off and were walking quickly

was Ultica Tileset always this good??? i could swear the last time i tried it (mind you, almost 2 years ago) it was so polluted and lacking that I didn't want to change from. ya know. that other famous/infamous tileset… but now it seems to look pretty good, i'mma try it out ^^

I prefer "ChibiUltica" bc i dont like the size of character/enemy sprites. It uses "MSXotto" sprites wich are basically the same as in the "UndeadPeople" tileset ;)

He was always disorganized. But as the cataclysm took hold something happened... Like a bang, or maybe a pop? He came to an unknown time later having a hard time hearing. And... He can't really tell what all these squiggles are all over things. Some kind of patterns? Some of these symbols seem repeated.

Nope, this explanation isn't working for me. Nowai some who couldn't read could even be a janitor in Nuclear Plant. How about not being able to read because of cataclysm? You should hit F1 on Judo (and Fencing) to check how you actually use it. Especially if you can perform grab break. Steel Chain is actually a passable weapon with 26 bash and stun. Have you never seen a punk fighting with chains in a movie? I LOLed IRL when you said safety@helipad.
