Skip My Intro and Start the Game Play Already - 1:27
Final Castle and Boss 54:03
Folks. This is a full play through for die-hard Rygar Fans or for those who may need help figuring out how to get through a certain area. This does NOT have Commentary other than an intro by me (which is really quiet for some reason). This is not for everyone, I understand. Enjoy and Thanks for Watching.

I remember playing this game on my NES as a kid... I wasn't able to beat it in a day, so I actually left the console running overnight, POSITIVE that it was going to mess up and reset before I could jump back on... But it didn't, and I was actually able to finish it. Such an awesome feeling waking up and seeing the game was still running, lol.

Thank you buddy. i have never been able to beat it. I got an NES in 1990 and i only owned a handful of games and Rygar wasn't one of them. Like many games, i had to rent them, this game was one i would play up until the minute i had to eject the cartridge and get in my Father's car to return it. Like many games, i am now watching play through videos put up by people like you. Thank you very much.

Glad you enjoyed it. This was just my basic play through I wasn't trying to iron man through it or do a speed run, it was just for fun. This is one of my all-time favorites along with Wizards & Warriors and Metroid. Just the right amount of difficulty and variety in weapons and levels that it just made fore great experiences when I was a kid. Maybe one day I'll actually do th e Wizards & Warriors play through I have talked about for years, LOL.

This game has a lot of nostalgia for me and it seems to for a lot of people as well. Some like it, some don't. As you can tell I have beaten it many times and love the port. It really helps to build up your character and increase you life bar to at least 6 if not 9 orbs. I hardly ever worry about getting it all the way to 12, it takes too long. I know I die a time or 2 in there somewhere so it is not a flawless run, but at least it was fairly quick. LOL. Thank you for checking it out.

Sandamtod a.k.a. Adam - Nice, I really love playing Dragon Warrior, Faxanadu, The Adventures of Link, Castlevena 1,2 & 3, especially Simon's Quest, Karnov, Final Fantasy and some others I can't remember the nave of! That ninja one though was super cool!

I love all of those, was never able to beat Castlevania 1 or 3 but I have played through the others many times. It was one of the games I played as a teen, but only at a friends house. Considering the time limits (and the lack of stability of the system) I never could complete it. Either it would crash or I would run out of time and have to go home. For some reason or another I have just been thinking about it decades later and I had always wanted to see it through. You helped that to happen. It was great watching you complete it. Thanks!

It is one of the very first games I ever played on the NES. It was my cousin's and he had Pro Wrestling, Commando, Super Mario Bros. and Rygar. Rygar was such an adventure and wide open, you could go anywhere and there was no time limit. It took a while and I remember renting it a couple of times before I finally beat it late one night.

Oh gosh! As a child I never beat this one. I could not figure this out. I remember getting the pulley, grappling hook and cross bow. Beyond that I had no idea that you were supposed to farm to get your health and strength up in order to make the fire shield thing shoot faster.

It took me forever to figure out what the 3 things on the status screen did and that you needed collect the stars to use them. One fills your life, one cause each swing to affect everyone on the screen for a limited time and the 3rd filled your health. I never had the instructions as a kid and there was no internet to check on what to do. It was the dark ages, LOL. My cousin taught me to grind in order to power up your guy to make it easier to kill everyting and increase your life bar. That's the only reason I beat it as a kid I think. LOL.

My cousin showed me to go fight those robot guys (or that's what he called them) LOL. They are some of the the strongest regular enemies in the games and they raise you up a lot faster than normal enemies. This game is still in my top 5 NES titles of all time. Probably Metroid, Zelda 1, Rygar, Ninja Gaiden and Ultima Exodus are the 5. I was never much of a Mario fan and if I had to pick I'd say I like SMB 2 the best. Glad you enjoyed seeing it again.

One of my 8-bit favorites for sure. Not super hard and not super long. It's pretty fun. It's about as free roaming as you can get for a game back then, most games were level based. Simon's Quest and the Zelda games are the best examples of similar adventures styled games that allowed you to kind of do things in thew order you wanted to. This Rygar is actually totally different (and better) than the original arcade game which was pretty boring IMO. :)

Well this brought back memories. The music, the sound effects, some of the goofy animations, the constant slow down and obscene flicker (to where sometimes you couldn't see any enemies or yourself!)... and exploiting parts of levels to not make it through. I loved this game and it was a beast if you didn't grind yourself up. Interestingly, I never did the tone life build up that you did here... which did make it much harder for me when I finally did complete the game as a kid (I remember leaving it on pause on the area before Ligar... attempting until I could finally beat him, which meant leaving my system on overnight)... I couldn't be bothered to do it for that long back then. I did exploit an issue on the platform with the forest boss all the time though... so I could get past him, because he took sooo many hits. I haven't played it again since I completed it in like 89 or so.

My cousin showed me the grinding trick before I eve even really played through it. He had the game and lived in Iowa, I live in Missouri. He brought his NES down to my house one summer and I was blown away by it. This was one of the games he had at that time and it was fairly new to him. So the next time he came down a few months later he brought it again and I asked him about the Rygar game. He said he had beat it and I asked if it was hard and he told me about building your guy up. I think he even played it far enough to show me where it was easiest to "level build" in that spot but he didn't want to play through the whole game so I ended up renting it later when he was gone and I finally had my own console. That was when I beat it the 1st time.

I was always surprised how we never got a Rygar II true sequel for the NES or even a gameboy port for how good this game was. If they added a save feature, I'm convinced this game would be more popular and not so overlooked by classic gamers. For the minor flaws, the adventure aspect/music/originality always blew me away as well as the fun factor! The visuals were stunning and one of the first "Metroidvania" games ever made. A lot of memorization is key but a far better version than it's linear arcade brother. The music still kicks ass to this day and the game aged very well.
@sandamtod
@sandamtod 8 жыл бұрын
+JSB_Music*Gaming I agree and Consistently put this game in my top 10 NES titles all-time. I always hoped there would be a true sequel and it never came. Although I know the little tricks now to beat it in an hour or so this game would have benefited from at least a password feature if not a internal battery save. Tecmo had a lot of games I thought should have passwords or something, the Ninja Gaiden games come to mind. The music was another strong part of this game as well. Tecmo (and Capcom) I felt had very strong music in their games.
@Ninthusiast

+Sandamtod a.k.a. Adam well put my friend... I think the game always takes me about 1.5 - 2 hours to beat (and I do it religiously for love of the game) which includes powering up at the beginning. Seems like Tecmo made Rygar the black sheep of the family and more focus on Tecmo Bowls and Ninja Gaidens. I mean hell, ninja gaiden even got a reboot on the snes! I played and beat Rygar: The legacy Adventure on PS2 but that never measured up to this side scrolling gem! We gotta find the makers of this and request a new sequel for virtual download!
@sandamtod
@sandamtod 8 жыл бұрын
+JSB_Music*Gaming I hear you. I played through and beat the PS2 Rygar but it isn't the same as a good old side scroller. If I was more with it I would make my own homebrew 8-bit version but I just never have gotten into that side of games. :-) Awesome comments! Thanks.

I used to get up at 6 in the morning to play Nintendo before I went to school. I remember playing Kid Icarus and Metroid in those early morning play sessions. At least both of those had passwords so you could come back later. That was the one thing this game really missed was a password system, unlimited continues is nice but damn. Tecmo had the same problem with the Ninja Gaiden series. They really would have benefited from a password.

@sandamtod
@sandamtod 6 жыл бұрын
Because the enemies in that area are some of the strongest in the game and it helps in the leveling up of your Tone (Strength) and Last (Life Bar) quickly, all enemies increase those numbers but the stronger they are the faster your stats go up. So to answer your 6 mo. old question it makes playing through the rest of the game less taxing. Apologies for no response for so long.

Either exploiting that tone life build up or exploiting the platform bug by the forest monster (you'll end up bouncing repeatedly off to the side and the monster can't hit you at all... and you spam attacks until it dies... that's what I did as a kid haha! Sandamtod a.k.a. Adam all true I'm sure. growing up on it would make it a favorite as well. it's just the game play is way off the arcade version which is what I played and the Master System had closer game play to the arcade which is what was important for us old 8 bit home system guys.

Sandamtod a.k.a. Adam I will grant you it's not as straight forward and offers more variety but then it's not really Rygar. The music is lacking as well.

Joachim P opinions are like assholes. every ones got one. Nintendo had a habit of producing games that veered to far off the arcade version. this is just one example. the arcade version is the one I played because it had challenging and great game play even if it did lack some variety. cool music in my opinion which is also missing for the most part in this version. the Master System stayed as true as possible to the arcade which is the way it should be.

Koexistence13 this is a master piece what are you talking about. I prefer this one over the arcade any day
