"Best part" is definitely a stretch though it's hard to say how valuable exactly the lost area would've been. The Winter War was purely a defensive war, unlike the wars Napoleon and Hitler waged against Russia/Soviet union so I don't know what you're implying with your comment, as Finland had no choice but to defend its independence. It's true however that Finland was the aggressor during WW2 in Continuation war, but as the name suggests, Finns didn't think the peace after Winter War would last for long and therefore decided to commit a pre-emptive strike against Soviet union in hopes of removing looming Soviet threat entirely, or at least gain a chunk of buffer land that would make defending Finland far easier.

In the Winter War peace treaty March 1940 Finland had to surrender some territory. Russia in turn had to surrender its goal for putting in Helsinki the puppet government of Finnish exile communist Kuusinen. That was a major setback to Russia. Finland kept her independence which had been her primary goal. Stalin's puppet president for Finland Mr. Kuusinen was never granted visa by the Finnish Government. He could never return to Finland after the wars. If Stalin had beaten the Finnish Army, why did he not order the Finnish Government to let Mr. Kuusinen come to Finland? Because Stalin couldn’t beat the Finnish Army!
