The Ryugyong Hotel, often referred to by intrigued foreigners as the Hotel of Doom or by some other demeaning moniker, is the official name of the towering 330m high pyramidal building in the heart of Pyongyang.
Begun in the 1980s, the hotel is yet to open to the public, but that doesn't mean it doesn't serve a purpose, and the neo-futuristic architectural style it inspired has started to take over the capital!

Growing up I was always weirdly interested in North Korea/the DPRK, and the Korean pensinula at large. While there was a lot of material on the South, not much existed about the North unless you wanted to read stories from defectors. This channel giving a look into the less political, more praactical side of the country, is unique.

DPRK Explained explains how the DPRK functions way better than other news outlets, I wish that this channel was more recognized internationally, as others can see how the DPRK works without having to take any sides.

Being an unused skyscraper that’s used to display beautiful LED imagery and is a staple landmark of the city, the Ryugyong Hotel reminds me a lot of One Times Square.

Does anyone know how does housing work in NK? Like, how is the process like? Who gets to live in the newest parts? I imagine the people who live in the older neighborhoods have been living there since the start.

It's weird and refreshing to see contemporary construction that isn't just 5-over-1 gentrification cubes. North Korea is the last refuge of Postmodernism and High-Tech style, and it's hilarious to see.

Your passion for North Korean affairs is infectious ❤. Love the nice touches about Sadong district. Literally cannot wait for Pothonggang and Sadong opening soon. North Korea has reached new heights with its modern architecture. Also looking forward to Hwassong district, apparently a lot of the Donju (elites) will be funding that project, attractive for its location (I.e, close to places of business). Rumours also that KJU wants Pyongyang's general hospital to open soon. 2022 must be North Korea's year to shine in modern development.
