There was no reason for the clear condition, since Bowser having a required key was enough that you had to kill him to beat the level. They definitely should have had checkpoints. The first one could be after the autoscroll, and the second one could be in the light area before the red coin challenge. Also, the hidden key in the autoscroll area was bogus.

Even when just watching the level, that bowser fire at 31:00 jump-scared me too. It would have been gut-wrenching to have been hit by that after all that effort.

I don't understand why most clear conditions are used when they can be replaced by keys and keys don't stop you from adding checkpoints.

Timing out at the end would have just been satisfying and relatable because I've been in similar situations and choose to replay the level again to clear it. Hope you're doing well enjoy your day.

Difficulty metrics are something that Nintendo needed to add to user inputs in MM2. I have a bunch of levels that can't seem to find an audience because they're meant to be hard but fair, but because only people who want easy levels seem to play them. Troll levels like this need users to be able to label them as such. "Kaizo" ratings should be possible for them. An example: NXW-2B2-WVG

If I had to guess, I would imagine the level probably started off relatively normal, then the creator kept adding things, then they played their level and realized how long and tedious it was to complete. Now from here, they could have toned it down and maybe gotten rid of the auto-scrolling or shortened it down. Instead, they went with the nuclear option, making a tight-timer 500 second dark level with hidden thwomps, Boom Booms, and an inability to take damage. Essentially, it started off innocently, but the creator listened to the little devil on their shoulder at every turn.

It makes sense that the timer is tight because the clear check time is about 8 and a half minutes and 500 seconds is about 8 mins 40 seconds
