▸ Rzeszow, a city that is the capital of the Podkarpackie Province established in 1999, situated in south-eastern Poland. It is a city with poviat rights, and according to the latest statistical data, it has about 180,000 inhabitants. Rzeszów is located on the border of the Carpathian Foothills and the Sandomierz Basin, on the 220-kilometer-long Wisłok River.
The history of settlements in today's Rzeszów is confirmed by archaeological excavations documenting discoveries from 6,000 years ago. Between the 11th and 12th centuries, on the initiative of Poles, a town was built. City rights, in turn, were granted on January 19, 1354, when Casimir III the Great handed over the city to Jan Pakosławic from Stróżyska. Despite the devastation in the 15th century, Rzeszów was quickly rebuilt, and thanks to the privileges it gained, it gained the possibility of rapid development. Already then, the city developed, among others blacksmithing, tailoring or furriery. After the battle of Rzeszów, on August 13, 1769, the city was part of the Habsburg Empire for 146 years. She became free again in 1845. During World War II, there was a Jewish ghetto in Rzeszów, which was inhabited by about 30% of the then inhabitants of the city. Most of the Jews there were either taken to the camp or shot.
Currently, Rzeszów is gradually expanding its area and is developing dynamically.
Within Rzeszów, there is the Lisia Góra nature reserve, established in 2003. It is located on the Rzeszów Reservoir, established in 1973, with an area of ​​approx. 65 ha. In principle, this reservoir was to fulfill a recreational function and constitute a retention reservoir. As a result of the application of silt in the area of ​​the present reservoir, numerous islets and shallows were created, where today representatives of various types of flora gather, including, for example: Canadian marsh, floating knotweed and lanceolate sorrel. In the Rzeszów Reservoir you can also meet tench, grass carp, water frogs and fire-bellied toads.
Industry in Rzeszów is focused on the production of, among others home, clothing, construction and pharmaceutical equipment. The structure of the aviation industry is also well-developed, operating thanks to the expanded Rzeszów-Jasionka International Airport.
The most important attractions and monuments of Rzeszów are certainly:
▸ The Town Hall located in the Old Town. It was probably built in 1591, but it gained its present neo-gothic and neo-renaissance form in the second half of the 19th century. The seat of the City Hall and the President of the City is still located in the Town Hall.
▸ Built in the years 1902-1906, the Castle was built on the site of the Lubomirski Castle, which was built around the 16th century. Originally, only the renovation of the existing castle was planned, but due to its poor condition, it was decided to completely demolish it.
▸Aleja Pod Kasztanami, which is a picturesque promenade with historic buildings;
▸The Lubomirski Summer Palace, built in the 1790s;
▸Teatr im. Wanda Siemaszkowa, built in the years 1890-1900, is now one of the most important monuments of Rzeszów
▸Established in 1849, the Jewish cemetery in Czekaj, devastated during World War II. 754 tombstones have survived to the present day;
▸ The Old Town Synagogue, rebuilt many times as a result of fires, was originally built in 1610.
In addition, numerous monuments located in the city are worth seeing, such as the Monument to the Revolutionary Action, the Monument to the Victims of Hitler's Terror, the January Insurgents, the Monument to Jan Kochanowski, Juliusz Słowacki, and Tadeusz Kościuszko.
On June 16, 2002, the Podpromie Hall was opened in Rzeszów, which is currently one of the most modern, multi-functional sports and entertainment halls in Poland.
