Can we please have some appreciation for a fantastic ambassador for the sport? It doesn’t matter if you’re a novice or an experienced shooter, we should all take note of this video, whether it be as a reminder or for advice for as a beginner. Great video 👏👏 As for the competition, as soon as the disabled category is established (🤞), I’ll be there.

Hello Gary, just found your channel. I've just bought my first air rifle and I'm looking forward to a dry day to get out and do some target practice. I like your box of old towels technique and luckily I have about 20 spare old "dog towels" 🎉 you are a really great teacher and I look forward to seeing more!

I am lucky to have a 30 yard long garden. I have a paving slab backstop to stop every pellet and I always check the neighbours are not in the garden before I start shooting. Easier in the winter when the neighbours are indoors most of the time 🙂

I have 50m at home. Got a backstop in steel which I covered with pieces of old conveyor belts. They do not only dampen the sound a lot, but also prevent ricochets. I built a diy self resetting moving target system, powered by a cordless drill. There's some shorts on my channel about this. If someone is intereseted in building one themselves, I'll be happy to share some guidelines! Cheers!

Thanks Gary another cracking video full of excellent /crucial advice . I particularly liked your target idea about printing O 's in a line , naturally your selected font size will have been set at 48 because you tend to use .177 /4.5mm rifles , as you stated for those like myself who favour .22/5.5mm calibre we can always increase the font size to 58 or whatever size desired . I would like to see more back garden shooting and I think the GunPower Edge could make a couple of brilliant episodes . Budget Springers ( I love Springers) , I would suggest a Remington Express , it's got a decent set of open sights at least on the Basic unsilenced version and comes with a pretty basic but usable scope and can still be bought for under £160.00 , I know it's been out for a while & it's one of my favourite rifles but mine is accurate and I find it a joy to use , particularly now it's well bedded in with well over 7000 shots down the barrel also it's not overly fussy about pellet choice , though it particularly favours RWS Super Field 5.52mm 15.9g pellets . Hatsan do several budget springers which are apparently very good , though sadly I haven't set hands on one yet so can't speak from experience . Thanks again , catch You next episode , Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well.

Spot on Jorgen. I let my neighbours know, via our WhatsApp group, that I was going to be using an air gun in my garden and invited them to come and look at my set up (backstop etc.) if they wished. I was a bit trepidatious in case anyone had concerns. The only replies I had were asking if I could sort out their rat problem.

Gary, I have watched hundreds if not thousands of airgun videos over the years and yet I have learned more in the last twenty five minutes than the other wasted hours. I am not interested in HFT or any given discipline, I am just a back yard shooter/ pest controller but I was gripped by your video. It's common sense but over looked by many these days, you re enforce it without coming across as patronising. As well as airguns I shoot crossbows, my crossbow target is a woven seed bag filled with old quilts and stops a bolt with 80ftlbs energy silently and safely. My airgun target is 3 kilos of modelling clay duck taped to a stack of magazines, great for stopping ricochets but makes a hell of a thwack when hit by a 30 cal 12ftlb pellet. I shall now be adopting my crossbow target for airgun shooting, I just did not think about it being suitable for pellets. Just reached my sixtieth year on this planet and still happy to learn something new every day.

Hi Gary, I love your style. Very informative and good humour. I bought an hw98 after watching you with yours. It has a real problem at the point where the threads start at the muzzle. You can see this. Looks like a ring bulge. Id say the threading process is the cause. The 98 will not shoot a group. My oldr hw95 with diopter sights will outshoot the98 all day. Not sure what to do about this yet. Stu v nz.

I practice using my Air Arms target rifle using American Appleseed Targets at 10 meters. 3 pellets in the prone, 3 in the kneeling, and 3 in the standing position every day. Have to get a max of 45 points, and the targets are downloadable on their website. Good all round accuracy practice, have a go.

Gary, when shooting on the right of the peg move back about 10 cm/5". By gripping further forward you get less movement at the muzzle for a slight movement at the butt.

I really mis the Argos catalogues , I used to cover them in gaffa tape , pin my shoot n see target on it put that into my homemade back stop ( 4 paving slabs ) and not only was it a safe and quiet backstop , it was also a pellet catcher , because I covered the catalogue in thick gaffa tape it kept the pellets inside the catalogue , I wish Argos would bring them back , and the yellow pages lol.

As someone who is just thinking of buying my first gun mainly for the back garden which is small but has various types of fury and feathered pests in it this was invaluable. I will certainly sort out some back stops that will allow me to shoot at the pests but will stop any passthrough problems i may come across.I am also disabled so this is something that i can do from inside the property and not have to rely on others to get me out and about. I am sure I can feed the pigeons and squirrels into safe shooting posistions.Cheers Gary

@@ShootingCountryTV will have a look thanks. Just found a major problem and that is I am blind in my right eye and being right handed it means I cannot get my left eye behind the scope with a normal stock. It may be possible with a tactical stock because it’s narrower allowing me to get my left eye further across and behind the scope. Any way it’s just another problem to over come. Cheers Neil

I hate it when people or documents call them air weapons! They are air rifles 👍
@rataca100
@rataca100 Жыл бұрын
It covers pistol and rifle instead of putting "air rifle/pistol" or "Air rifle and pistol". I think they are grouped as air weapons in the law as well. And it in part covers the sub catergory of airsoft gun. (But i dont recall what exemptions etc exist for them aside from sub X power has to shoot 6mm plastic BB's)
@richarddixon7276
@richarddixon7276 Жыл бұрын
A simple solution is to just call them Air Guns ! , that fits both pistols & rifles and is factually correct . Though those that prefer the term "weapon" are also technically correct, the implication is fairly apparent and again is theoretically correct, even though most shooters know that a sub 12 ft/lb airgun is not really fit for defensive/offensive purposes - unless it's against Wererabbits or Vampire squirrels ! ,but finding sterling silver pellets might pose a problem though .
@highgatehandyman6479

Should be called air arm
@aboutthemetal8783
@aboutthemetal8783 Жыл бұрын
Part of the definition of a weapon is if the particular object was designed with an intended use , anything that's used for self defence is a weapon , an air rifle is not a weapon as far as it's definition goes , it's not intended to be used for self or home defense ( at least not in England ) the law and the people who don't like air rifle shooters use language that makes things sound dangerous and harmful to the general public .
@rataca100
@rataca100 Жыл бұрын
The simple solution is what they did, use the term air weapon. Air arm can be confhsed with the company and isnt in the act as far as i know, and air weapon applies to both pistol and rifle that have diffrent laws surrounding them. And it is a weapon as its designed from conception to kill things ie rabbits. Its regualtion to sub 12ftlbs is to limit the damage a legal one can do to a person, but it can still maim and kill a person. (Im sure the FAC ones can kill people if mishandled much easier)

I would like to see you shoot with a real budget springer. I am more into .22LR and occasionally shoot with my muzzleloader but recently bought a Gamo springer for backyard shooting on the smallholding. Where I live it is not so easy to get lots of pellets of a certain batch if I find it to shoot good. We have to buy what we can get. I had a few tins of same batch pellets that was shooting great but the next lot was not so good. Maybe you can also include testing different pellets with the budget springer.

I am moving to a new home this month, I will be on the mortgage with my wife so my property but we are the last house in the row, meaning that to the left of my property is the road, a dead end road which I doubt will have much activity at all but still I am wondering if this would put me foul of the law(?) I intent to sit at the left most side of the property round the side of my house which is right next to the street as this allows me the longest stretch of the garden for shooting . There is a fence and thick hedge between me and the street so I won’t be visible at all to anyone so I suppose it’s just going to be noise I will have to be the most concerned about(?)

Over the winter I've been shooting in my shed, at a range of about 5m with a Hawke 3-9 x 50mm scope. 10mm circle is just in focus at x3. In terms of backstop I'm using an angled paving slab in a wooden box, and I've hung a sheet of rubber (pond liner) inside the box in front of the slab, with a gap between the two. Pellets passes through the target and the rubber, shatters on the slab and the rubbers stops any ricochet.

Wish I could shoot in the garden, I have 70 yard long garden with a stone backstop, and the garden also slopes up which means any missed shots would go into the soil. I shot for a bit then a grumpy neighbour came out shouting, and said that he had seen the pellet fly at head height ,even though the walls are taller than a man and I was shooting slightly to the right making him almost to the back of me, he claimed that it had flown even further and gone into a neighbours shed, I asked him to show me but he wouldn't and threatened to call the police if I continue, I tried explaining how it is impossible for a sub 12ft pellet to fly 70 meters to the end of my garden and hit the stone wall only for it to fly backwards at head hight and him to see it in mid air, and go into a shed, acorns were falling everywhere so that is what I presume he saw, all in all the sub 12ft pellet would have flown 70 yards ricochet of the stone wall come back on itself and add on about another 40 yards then Gone through a solid shed! In total the combined journey would have been about 180 yards only to go through a solid shed.

New to this channel from the USA. I hope you do FAC rated Air Guns as well. My country is anything but perfect by a damn sight but I have to say what’s going through my mind right now about some of the UKs airgun laws. If I was from the UK and grew up with these laws I am sure I would try to find some justification for some of them but since I’m not and have been allowed to do whatever I feel is safe with whatever power level I chose to use…with respect…I think a lot of these laws are to coin one of you alls phrases…total RUBISH! Most of the laws seem to be common sense but others like some of mine in my country are just stupid and make no sense at all. To be fair Canada right now is even more restricted than you blokes. I will never complain ever again about having to pass a background check for any high power semi automatic assault rifle ever again knowing it could be a lot worse if I allow my government to control me like other countries are. Stay blessed and stay safe, and thank you all for some of the greatest advances in airgun technology to reach me from across the pond thanks to you all and your love of the shooting sports. BTW silencers, LDCs, and moderators here are labeled as a firearm🤷‍♂️🤦WTAF?! There is no fire made by them, no ammo in them, no firing pin, no magazine, and are not a gun! These politicians need taken out and whipped with a fishing rod😂 Stupid laws made by stupid people that most likely have never pulled a trigger and know absolutely nothing other than fear of the unknown. Sorry for my rant but you just can’t fix stupid. Again…stay blessed and thank you for this video and insight to how other governments screw people too like mine.

That is not true except in rare places. Every city, of any size, in the state of North Carolina does not allow any air rifle to be discharged within the city limits. In some counties within the state there are restrictions too. Too many just haven’t read their local ordinances. 🤦🏼‍♂️ I have to go to a gun range with my air gun or I am breaking the law. America is far more regulated than many people know.

Worth speaking to your local plod. They can make a note against your house that shows you shoot. Just show them your safe and have a proper back stop.
