In todays video, Gary gets stuck into some precision shooting with a srpinger air rifle - namely, a TX200HC. During the show, you can pick up technique tips to make you a better shot, as Gary examines the effects of poor head positioning while shooting, and tests what happens if he cants the rifle over to one side.
Gary also tries out the new Barracuda 8 pellets from H&N at 40 yards, as well as the trusty JSB Diablo pellets.
As ever, it's a fun filled episode of Life at the Range this week!

Perfect timing. Quite spooky in fact. 😮 I’ve literally just been using your TX200 strip down vid to remind myself of everything to do and have just serviced my HC. AND I’ve just got some Barracuda 8’s to test tomorrow on range day. The TX is a gun I will never part with. Great video, Chilly. 👏👏👏

Great video Gary. I shot at Throckmorton last weekend too with my TX200. We shot in the afternoon and got caught in the rain but loved the course which was tough but one of the best I've shot on! I got a 41 and had my best run ever of 6 "2"'s. I decided after stripping and relubing because of the weather, to retire the TX200 other than for a recoiling competition! I've loved the journey but for now will focus on HFT competition with my HW100K.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I shoot a new model FWB Sport using H&N Baracuda 10.65, 4.52 pellets at 50 metres. I found that I achieve much tighter groups with the heavier pellet.

Gary, word of advice on the mosquitos, don’t wash your hair ( head) with scented soap/shampoo, also don’t use aftershave the smell attracts these little buggers. Speaking from experience. Cheers, enjoy your videos immensely.

More testing with H&N Baracuda 8’s please. This time clean barrel. Out to 55yds..? The CD trigger strip and set up would be good also. Cheers.

i love my springers/i have a hw77/i bought bran new in (1990).and it still shoots like bran new..would never part with it../also have a hw97/which is same gun ..but not made with open sites..but the hw77 /is my beast/..and can hit bottle caps with it at 100 yards...

Hi Gary, I posted this information on shooting the breeze but thought I'd share. I shot at Throckmorton with weighed JSB 8.44 pellets I found that some were tighter in the TX200 lead/breech than others. I found that the looser pellets were more accurate and carried to the target where the tighter pellets meant that I had to make a slight compensation to my aim point as they seemed to drop in distance. Have you or anyone ever come across this phenomenon before?

Yes, a full strip of the TX200 trigger would be of interest. I'm not yet skilled enough to attempt the trigger, but I have been into my TX200 for a cleaning/lube an seal replacement. By the by, I enjoy your sense of humor. Perhaps this comes from my being a retired bus driver, you know, birds of a feather. Orv

It would also be helpful if you could touch on why (or if) it's important to clean the barrel between different pellets. I got 3 new types I wanted to test and I shot 20 of each back to back. Is that bad?

Hi Gary, not knocking you, as you know a lot more about shooting air rifles than I ever will, but I was always taught that shooting prone body and legs should be in line with your point of aim. Is this purely for recoiling rifles, i.e. rimfire and centre fire? Thanks for all your tips 👍💥

One last thing what power does,you tx do mine rins at 10.45 ft lbs with 8.64 gn pellets its fine out to 35yrds but 45/50 terrible i know most of that is me but am interested in your power

Gary have a question, I normally shoot Hunter class in AAFTA which is up to 20 ft lbs and off a bucket with stixs. 10 yards 3/8 hole to 55 yards 1 1/2 inch. I got a HW97 from a dear friend before he died. Springer is not a very popular class, pulled it out to give it a go. I am watching you as you are knowledgeable and share. Would it be possible for you to try shooting off a bucket and stixs for advice? You have good results letting the rifle recoil, for me it seems to give better results with a firm seat against the shoulder. What am I doing wrong?

For my TX200HC 22cal. 22j, RWS Superfield 1.03 grams worked best. At 50 meters he knocks down cigarettes.

Also highly amusing to see you forget to unset the safety, which I'm pretty sure happened at least a couple of times at Throckmorton. I know when I shoot springers, I have exactly the same issue, but only shoot them once every 14th blue moon, when there's an R in the month. Quite reassuring to see you, a 'professional' boinger, do it as often as I do. I must stop getting so annoyed with myself when I do the same.

Hi Gary another great video love all the advice but just wondering do you know if anyone uses a bull pup air rifle for hot or ft as I am buying a daystate pulsar from a friend I used to shot donkeys years ago a hw77 loved it then started going clay pigeon shooting for about 10years haven’t had a gun for years but been watching you on KZfaq for a year or so and am interested in hft keep to great videos going 👍Ian

Hi Ian, the main issue with a bullpup is the depth of the pistol grip on things like the pulsar and galahad. When you rest the butt on the deck, the pistol grip touches the floor and that's not allowed. So you will have to shoot it from the shoulder.

If you are going to do hft, then the hft500 is perfect. The bull pups are OK, just not suited for hft or ft. Brilliant ratting guns though.

11 mins in to the video. Uncertain if it's down to camera position and angle and/or the wonky peg, but it does look to me as though you may be canting the rifle slightly to the right.
