Still fresh to the SHMA line myself. Got into the line since NECA bit the Godzilla bullet. Definitely love the uniqueness of this line because my 91 honestly looks better than the ones on this video.

Honestly though I sense some kind of meddling on Toho's part regarding recent SHMA. The Gamera offerings have been magnificent (apart from 99' V1s teeth) Meanwhile it seems our Godzilla offerings have been much less consistent, and pricing is way off from what it should be. It's just so weird because we go from the absolute banger that is Gigan to this.

Either this, or SHMA is for whatever reason secretly against some kaijus to the point they decide how much effort they put into them. Kiryu has been very consistent with how wonderful and well-presented the figures are, they even made a 9-inch scale of him with many accessories in the "Soul Of Chigokin" line. Yet when you look at MechaGodzilla 1974, it's only had one release, with a poor paint job, a very poor sculpt (such as the dots of the head being so soft and blending in far too much), barely any accessories, the chest beam stand wasn't even the correct size, shoulder ring problems, and yet that figure was $95. Absolutely disgraceful if that's actually it, and the worst part is that it might actually be so when you look at how wonderful some figures are compared to others.

I own this figure and I'm pretty satisfied with it. The eyes on mine are pretty good (I've seen some online photos where the right eye seemed to be looking too far up, while the left is looking straight). I agree with you about the thigh articulation, it could've been better. At this point, i've come to expect MonsterArts to release their Godzilla figures with no accessories.

Hey @StevensToyReviews I just got this figure and while mine came in an almost perfect form and condition, the balljoint in the mouth popped out after a bit, and if anyone else is having this problem, you could just squeeze the jaw back into its place without the need for the balljoint and it works surprisngly well.

Great review Steven! I think with the height of the figure, we might need to blame the 94/95. 91 is about the same height as them in films, so im guasing T.N didn't want this to tower over the later film figures

Isn't SHMA 1989 Godzilla technically the Hokkaido suit just before the alterations? I get why they used the Shinjuku here since this is to go with the recent Mecha King Ghidorah release and not so much the pre Mecha form (Which we may or may not get a new version of that as well as the actual Hokkaido suit down the line.)

What was getting at is we at the very least have A version of the Hokkaido suit, just not the Hokkaido suit that was present in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah. Godzilla 1972 is still basically Godzilla 1968 just weather down from age just to give an example.@@StevensToyReviews

It's not - the 1989 film also used two suits: land and sea. SH Monsterarts used the one from the land as it's more iconic in the scenes in Osaka and I think Wakasa Bay in the final fight. The sea suit was slimmer and was modified with a new chest and head for the Hokkaido scenes in the following film

Pretty sure both suits from 89 were used in GvK as no new suit was made entirely until Godzilla vs Mothra the following year after when one (I think Hokkaido-sea suit) was stolen.

Hot take but I do really like this figure myself I myself own a copy The only issue I have with it would be that I cannot close the mouth all the way without the ball joint popping off. Other than that I’ve always preferred the Shinjuku suit over the Hokkaido suit so this figure is one of my favorites in my collection.

This might sound a little esoteric, but if I had to choose one single accessory to capstone this release, I’d love a poster print signed by Bob Eggleton. As I’m sure you are aware, Bob is a legendary artist and painter in the field of comic books, fantasy horor, sci-fi and has done numerous works related to Godzilla in cooperation with G-Fan Magazine, Penguin-Random House Publishing, Dark Horse Comics, IDW and other independent works. And usually when Bob was tasked with painting a generic version of the Heisei Godzilla, he always showed deference to the 91 Shinjuku suit. So I feel like it’s a bit of a lost opportunity to not have incorporated some element of his art with the figure. But who knows. Maybe Tamashii will rerelease this figure in a more highly decorated paint scheme to resemble Bob’s art pieces

Ha ha ha, the person that painted your one must've been at the end of their shift. Beautiful figure, especially like the updated hip/torso articulation. That (gap filler) ring around the hip / upper thigh was an eyesore.

I just have the OG 1994 for Heisei Goji MonsterArts and I was curious if this one would be an upgrade to that but it looks like more or less equal quality to it. If vendors have trouble selling it and majorly slash the price maybe then I’ll consider it.

This figure looks pretty good, that whole (first battle suit / final battle suit) doesn't matter at all to me, to me it looks exactly the same. my issue with it and the thing that turned me off from getting this figure entirely was how frickin short it is, I was expecting it to be the hight of final wars (and was kinda the whole reason I was going to get it, but yeah took one look at this figure (literally looks like it's 5.5in) and I said yeah fuck that, I'd rather pay after market price for a shma 1995 birth Godzilla fig then buy this.

@@gary_something_else6417 I’m at work, so I haven’t had a chance to watch the review to see what Steve compared him to, but I just got my 91 on Monday, he stands taller then my 89 goji, and slightly taller then my 94 goji. I don’t have the rebirth 95 or the burning goji, but based off what I scaled him to, he seems perfect in inches

@@tysdogvlogs6697 I also have the 94, but he didn't show it next to him, but he did show it next to the 89, and compared to that one it definitely dose look bigger but only by a tiny amount, like maybe a quarter of an inch. I hear that the 1995s are like 6.5in, so if you ever get a moment to see the vid it would be about the fight of the final wars.

Tho I’m disappointed that they didn’t model his head off the 91 look that most people recognize. Hiya toys has one coming tho, and the face has the famous 91 menacing look, so I’m excited

Hey Steven I ordered the Sh Monsterarts Godzilla 1972 but the figure won't arrive until sometime April 2024! I saw the Release month of this Sh monsterarts Godzilla 1991 and customers aren't supposed to get this Godzilla 1991 Sh Monsterarts until November. Does this mean the Sh Monsterarts Godzilla 1972 will Arrive way.....earlier than April? I saw Bigbadtoystore has this Sh monsterarts Godzilla 1991 but it's only on Preorder not in Stock even though it's already mid November now! So maybe you might know the issue with the Sh Monsterarts Godzilla 1972 and why Bigbadtoystore still got there Godzilla 1991 Only for Preorder not stock.

Hey Steven any idea on how to pop this sucker’s jaw back on? Accidentally popped it off and now everytime I think it’s secured it just pops back off whenever I close the jaw

I'm kinda in the same boat but I just push the ball peg back and shove the jaw in yes its not connected but it still closes and opens

@@thatsymbiotespiderman I discovered a method on temporarily fixing it. By having the peg facing forward. I used dish soap to add as a lubricant for the ball joint to actually move instead of popping off from friction. Then I try placing the jaw underneath the ball and forcefully open his jaw till I fill it pop in. After it works normally though it can pop off once the soap runs dry.

Man I just bought the 89 and now they release this which is very, very similar but somewhat different ffs On top of that, if I end up deciding to buy it I would still be unsure if I should just wair for the Hiya toys version

Maybe wait for hiya, they seem pretty consistent with their quality of paint and sculpt. Biggest selling point would be the price, they tend to be way cheaper than both SHMA and super7. I never owned any but they’re starting up their classic Godzilla line so it’s a good jump on point because they’re more likely to produce figures of characters and different versions that SHMA haven’t reissued in so long. I’m really waiting for hiya to make Mothra because I’m not spending 400 dollars for such of used, small release that was originally around 50 bucks including import and shipping.

mine actually has an issue with the jaw, it seems to have been disconnected from the joint, but it is such a small joint and hard to get at so it hasn't been able to be reattached. It isn't the biggest issue cause the jaw can sit inside the cavity and still look good, but when moving the jaw it will not stay in place and will sometimes fall out. is there a solution to this problem?

dude I thought I was the only one with this problem! I think you might have to rub some soap on the joint, but I haven't tried that yet.

@@thegodzilladude725 idk if soap would help that much, the problem is I'm not able to get the ball joint to stay where it's able to be reattached, it just goes right back to the back of the head. If it didn't move like that then soap would probably help

I like the monster arts line but it’s starting to get annoying paying $100 for figures that have no breath piece and can have honestly shotty joints. I love the Godzilla 2004 figure except articulating him is sketchy with his parts falling off
