São João Del Rei is a historic city in Minas Gerais.
It has just over 90,000 inhabitants and is the largest 18th century city in the state, it was one of the richest and most important cities in the colonial period.
Founded in 1713, the city turned 308 years old now in 2021
It was one of the cities that most developed economically, with busy traffic and commerce, but still maintaining its beautiful and very well preserved historic center.
The city is large, but it is possible to visit the main tourist attractions on foot in a few hours, as they are well concentrated in the historic center.
São João Del Rei is very close to Tiradentes, just 12 km from there, and it is possible to reach the city by train, with the famous Maria Fumaça that connects the two cities.
The city is known as the 'land where the bells speak' and it is said that there is an underground São João Del Rei, which will be open to visitors soon.
