Looks like it was still in use in the sixties/seventies, new control panel & buttons about half way through. Great video, keep up the good work.👍
@Jerazol5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was an active facility up to 1997.
@edchevalier2694 жыл бұрын
@@Jerazol What was it used for at that time?
@Jerazol4 жыл бұрын
@@edchevalier269 It was a torpedo battery, designed to close off the Trondheim fjord and access to Trondheim city by enemy ships.

Imagine the enormous expense that went into constructing such a massive fortification, only to have it fall into complete disrepair. Such a waste.
@Jerazol7 жыл бұрын
Well, it had outgrown it's usefulness. Norway was one of the last countries in the world abandoned the strategy of fixed defensive positions.

Helt utrolig at plassen der er såpass intakt etter 22 år uten vedlikehold og aktivitet.

I cannot believe the periscope is still in place and undamaged. The structure has some modern equipment here and there. Was this site used during the German invasion?
@Jerazol7 жыл бұрын
This site didn't exist during the invasion. The construction was started during WW2 but it wasn't completed untill after the war. The Torpedo battery wasn't decomissioned before the late 1990s.

Did not know that torpedo battery was a thing. Where are the lunch tubes?
@Jerazol5 жыл бұрын
They would've been located at 5:15. Obviously, any weapons systems have been removed.

The Norwegian torpedo battery on Oslo Fjord sank the German heavy cruiser Blucher during the German invasion in 1940. It delayed the Germans enough that the Norwegian Royal family was able to escape.

Is that the battery that sank Blucher?
@Jerazol6 жыл бұрын
Nope, this place is located in the Trondheim fjord some 450km further north. It was in fact partially built by the Germans during WW2, though not finished before the end of the war in 1945. The sinking of Blücher is however a likely reason for why the Germans chose to build it in the first place as it showed Hitler how powerfull a strategically located torpedoy battery like this could be in a narrow fjord.

3:00 Vandals? And is that art or graffiti?
@Jerazol7 жыл бұрын
There wasn't really much vandalism here, it's fairly remote. It was hard to tell whether any damage to the place was done during emptying the place, because of neglect or due to vandalism. I have always assumed that the Pluto and Little Hiawatha painting was done while the location was still active but I don't really have anything to back up this assumption.

@@Jerazol Hi. This is a late response but here i comes. The Paintings on the wall was done by a soldier that served at Sørviknes Torpedo Battery. Actually there was also a painting on the crane which stood on the quay which is in the beginning of the video, the painting there was of Mickey Mouse, this painting was rusted away by 2013. I have a digital video of this facility made in 1998, just after the place was emtied for torpedo tubes, radios, radars, generators and so on. The power was still on so lights were operative. The reason i know this is because i was the nearest neigbour to this facility, i also knew a few of the officers working there so i have been inside a few times when it was operative. Ill try to upload the video in the near future - if its still working after 22 years. Best regards Geir K
