Hondo kept Danny from getting killed. He should be able to make his own judgements in these situations although he's not team leader anymore.

in real life he would be shot dead straight away, pointing a gun at someones head is endangering life . idiot felons have found out the hard way in england, UK, thinking that taking a hostage after a botched robbery the police would stand down , after watching stupid flims and tv they dont and open fire striaght away

Hondo got demoted after he spoke out against the department’s inability to hold 3 cops accountable for racism that was clearly recorded with intent

Deacon discovered the racist antics of those cops and made a recording of their remarks. However the department simply moved them to other precincts and put Deacon in the line of fire as a whistleblower. Hondo backed him up by alerting the press about LAPD's failure to handle the situation properly. The backlash caused the department to reevaluate their decision and ultimately the racist cops were fired
