Arguably I am quite fluent in the White Hmong dialect, and although I do not speak the Green dialect, I know a lot of Green Hmong -- and I assure you they speak/sing closer to the White dialect than the Green dialect. The only reason why it sounds so heavily Green dialect is mainly due to their Chinese-inherent accent, and some very Green-centric Mong words like: nam, txi, noj tsab, xeej txwm xeej lug, plus a few others. All the other words are White Hmong words -- said/sang clearly as that. Bottom line, it is neither exclusively Green or White, but more so mixed and even some Chinese included. At the end, they all say: "ua tsaug ntau ntau". That is not Green period, as Green would say "ua tsug ntus ntus". See the big difference. Let me put it this way, as I stated, I am near perfect in the White dialect and do not speak the Green dialect. However, I can understand/know practically every word they said and sang versus I would have a difficult time understanding a Western Green Mong speaking the Green dialect. Bottom line, I know practically every word these ladies said and sang -- so they must be speaking/singing closer to the White dialect -- NOT Green. (Sorry if you DO NOT know that difference, disparity, and comprehensive variance.) As for the argument that there are more White Hmong in the West than Green, who knows without actual data. Personally, I doubt that. Perhaps the main point most people (Hmong/scholars) are trying to make is that there is LESS White Hmong anywhere else in the world than what is known in the West -- as most if not ALL White Hmong have resettled in the West. (From reports and firsthand accounts of many Hmong and non-Hmong who have traveled back to SE Asia and other foreign countries is that they have observed or concluded that there is a HUGE disparity in terms of population of more Green over White.) N. Tapp, a well-know Hmong researcher, even alluded, or made this claim in one of his recently published book -- discovery/research.

I taught in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Minnesota. So, I rest my case.

ordnance armory Nawww, just because you happen to have taught "Hmong", or "Ntawv Hmoob" to ignorant US-Hmong kids among non-Hmong by chance proves nothing. (I, or any fluent/native Hmong speaker, could have easily taught such a class at any level, or academic setting.) And FYI, I have had the pleasure/displeasure to see (review) some of the college-based Hmong language curriculum being taught. Yes! Even at UMN. No further comment as "kuv tsis xav rhuav cov Ntaub Ntawv Hmoob/Moob los kws qhia ntawv no" -- at the collegiate level ... haha! Worst yet, you, supposedly an educator -- per your claim, to having claimed "subject matter expertise" -- knowing full well there is no such thing regarding the Hmong language, spoken and written, is outright self-incriminating, and utterly ludicrous. (Yuav tsum paub txaj muag, txuag yus ntse muag thiab pob. Los koj yog tib neeg "tsab ntse" just because you happen to be any educator ... haha!) I may not be an "educator", as that is not my career choice, but I assure you I can give all you Hmong educators a run-for-your-money, in terms of the Hmong language -- written and spoken. (MS asked me to help assist their Hmong Language development program, which I kindly declined.) So I too, rest my case.
