This is episode 3 of Season 4 and we visited Emily Provincial Park from June 3rd to 6th, 2022. This park is in the Kawartha Lakes Region about 25km west of Peterborough. It is situated on the shore of Pigeon Lake. This park has many large campsites with lots of vegetation between sites, however most are wide open to the roadway. We kayaked in the park. We did 2 very, very, very short hikes in the park and we went about 1.8km outside of the park for a longer 2km hike at the Emily Tract. We also cycled from the park to the Trans-Canada Trail and checked out Doube's Trestle Bridge. We visited Peterbourough and were amazed at the Trent-Severn Waterway Locks. We watched the Ashburnham Lock and the Peterborough Lift Lock in action. All in all, another great weekend camping!
In episode 4 we'll be visiting Selkirk Provincial Park.

Thanks for the review. We just got back from Emily and wanted to mention that although the dumping and water fill areas were good, it was kind of confusing because the hoses for the potable water was orange and the hoses for dumping were blue. We got to the park just after a big storm. Many of the sites were filled with mud and puddles. Luckily our site was fine (205). We wanted to bike to the Doube bridge, but you are right that biking on the highway is dangerous, and there was no parking left on the side of the road. The biking in the park was ok, but the rains have left some roads with washout areas. Enjoy all your reviews😊

I’m really enjoying the out of park trips you are trying, great to see other things to do in some of these places. You should add camping spot reviews, point out some of the best spots, it’s really hard to know which spots are good when you have never been to that park. Another Great Camping with the Coles video 🇨🇦

Thanks for the review of Emily. This year we have decided to camp closer to home due to the price of gas. We normally go to parks in northern Ontario. We will be heading to Emily the first week of September and will also be kayaking, biking and hiking. You basically covered what we enjoy while camping. Because of your trip to the locks I'm adding that to the trip as well. Thanks

We went there last year and I’d agree with your assessment. It can be a bit noisy because the closeness to the highway and there was a high powered boat that would roar up and down the lake quite often, but generally a decent park but not especially memorable. The ice cream was good as was the little drive to Bobcaygeon to the Kawartha Dairy Bar!

Informative video! Seems like a hiker/camper friendly site! And that bridge - mega-super-awesome! I think they have a much bigger (over 300 sq km) Kawartha Highlands PP in the same region, but it is a water based park and may not have car/RV camping, which makes it out of scope for us :-)

Thanks for the review guys. My wife and I were at Emily a few weeks back (first trip to the park) and we found your review to be both fair and comprehensive. You covered all the main points (and some of the minor ones) very well. We completely agree with your assessment. We liked the park due to it's proximity to our home. It is about a 45 minute drive and gives us everything we like. The one thing you may have mentioned is the park's proximity to Omemee. It is about an 8km drive and the town has all the necessities if you left something at home, groceries, hardware, etc. It also has a few restaurants and both an LCBO & Beer Store. Again, thanks for your frank and honest review from two of your regular viewers.

It was so nice to be able to fly the drone at the bridge. It's illegal to fly a drone in a Provincial or National Park so we rarely get to fly it. The trestle bridge is a place we could legally fly it so we took advantage of it. Thanks for mentioning it.

Emily is where my son & I first camped a few years ago, site #304, and we’ve been back twice since. In July/August, campers’ beach is great with staff clearing any weeds every morning, and beautiful sunsets. As you probably noticed, Hilltop campground is the easiest walk to the beach, although I think there was a trail to Circle campground too. Another nice place to visit locally is Bobcaygeon, a picturesque town at the north end of Pigeon Lake, about 25mins by car or an hour or so by powerboat to Lock 32. Love your videos and look forward to each post! 🍁

That Tressle Bridge bit was very cinematic, I loved it. The part where the music comes to a chescendo and Cheryl is standing on the bridge made me laugh.
@CampingwiththeColes
@CampingwiththeColes 2 жыл бұрын
That shot of Cheryl standing on the bridge was hard to get. I tried bringing the drone straight up a few times but it kept going off to the side. I eventually gave up. During editing I realized that I could just reverse the footage from when I flew the drone straight down. Luckily no birds in the background flying backwards. That's kind of why she looks pretty bored when the drone goes up to reveal her.

We went to Emily in July 2020. Unfortunately due to the pandemic there were no boat rentals. It was clean ( comfort station in particular) and nice sites. Didn’t like the road noise, the beach was closed at the time due to high bacteria. Our was very un-level too. Agree with your rating . I feel it’s a good park to stay at to explore the area. There is a beautiful park in Peterborough, an oasis in the middle of the city, called Jackson Park with a river/creek running through it and a lovely pagoda.
