I was replacing a rear diff in my s10 blazer once and when I unbolted the U bolts from the leaf springs on one side fell off and were broken! The only thing holding them together was the U bolts and plates for the diff. New leaf springs are relatively cheap for these trucks and worth the change when they age and rust. Good video by the way, wish I knew about the double hammer trick when I did mine!

If the bolts do weld (rust) themselves to the inner metal sleeve , A right angle drill can drill out the rubber between the inner sleeve where the bolt passes through and the outer sleeve. Once thats out of the way , you can use a flat screw driver and remove the outer sleeve . You will need the ball joint press like the one shown in this video .

I have a 97 s10, and those use eight bolts. But mine is only held on by 6 now because someone broke the head off one before I procured the truck, then one of the nuts that was welded to the frame of the bed broke off(due to rust). But it’s not hard. I just had the bed off to put in a new fuel pump, and now I have to replace my drivers side rear shackle. Maybe I should have left the bed off, but we’ll see. This truck lived about 5-8 years in Michigan and Wisconsin before coming back to western Kentucky.
